  1. Welcome to you and Scooty!
  2. So sorry, Murfchck. Run free, sweet Daisy.
  3. So sorry that you've lost your precious Sunny, Nancy. Hugs to you.
  4. Dang! Does that looks like it hurt. I'll kiss Maalik's beak, but only if my two fingers are resting on the tip of his beak while I kiss the top portion. I'll also kiss his beak if he happens to be inside his cage and nudging his beak through its bars. What Maalik's been doing as of late is pinching the back of my neck while he makes a loud clack sound. that's when he's being a little smartie pants with me. I'll then walk over to a chair that has some blankets on it and put him onto that, saying, while doing my best stink eye possible: 'No Biting!' Usually he'll try it a few more times before he finds something else to keep himself entertained. If he continues to harass me, I'll start singing to him, which softens him back into a cute little bundle of fluffiness. These Greys...:-)
  5. Decorah just posted that the third eaglet from last year's clutch was found electrocuted. So sad and a completely preventable death. That was the second eaglet from this particular clutch which had been electrocuted after landing on an improperly housed electrical line.
  6. Two of my German Shepherds have strong prey drives as well. Over time they've acclimated themselves to their presence so that now I don't have to worry about having them in the same room while my fids are out. As a general rule, my birds are kept separate from my dogs 95% of the time. It's my insurance policy in order to maintain their safety at all times. If my dogs were to briefly enter the bird room they couldn't be bothered by their presence. I think they've grown used to them from having walked past their cages. But when they first came home, my dogs were hyper-focused on them, and they would try to nip at their clinging talons whenever possible.
  7. I have 4 German Shepherds and 9 parrots, including my Grey. For the most part I keep them separated from my birds whenever they're out of their cages. However, when they're in the same room together, my dogs pretty much ignore them. My birds are all flighted, not only for their own enjoyment but also for their own safety should a troubling situation between them and the dogs arose.
  8. I've been watching the Decorah Eagles cam as well. Last year's brood had such a sad outcome for 2 of the 3 eagles. Just goes to show you how difficult it is for these babies to reach adulthood either alive or in one piece.
  9. What did she do after you didn't react to her biting? Did she remain on your arm, or did she high tail it back onto her perch?
  10. If there's a sound you don't want them to make, they absolutely will! Murphy's law.
  11. I make birdie bread from pellet 'flour'. I pulverize their pellets in a food process and use that, along with some rice bran flour, to hold the mixture together. Like Aerial, I also hide all sorts of healthy great things inside their birdie bread. Gives me peace-of-mind, knowing that they're getting everything their little bodies need.
  12. Can you get hold of a 20 cc syringe? That's what I used to feed my CAG formula.
  13. LOVED this video! Makes me want to free flight my macaw one day.
  14. Kitchen sponge to food dishes. Just sayin'
  15. This video brings happy tears to my eyes. I once had a German Shepherd who suddenly went paralyzed for 6 weeks. 3 vets told me to euthanize him for quality of life reasons. But I wasn't ready to give up on him. I found a 4th veterinarian who agreed to supply me with catheters so that I could empty his bladder. I kept him quiet for 6 weeks, and passively exercised his limbs and changed his position every 2 hours. While I was expressing his bladder one morning, I noticed that his back right food twitched. Needless to say, I was ecstatic!! Little by little his legs began to function again. I ordered him a doggie wheelchair, and he eventually regained COMPLETE use of his hind legs. He lived happily ever after with us for another 6 years. Those wheelchairs are incredible, whether a dog can or cannot regain motor functioning of its hind legs. Thanks for sharing this video, Sterling.
  16. We did the nail method with our Miligold Macaw, and used Kwik Stop immediately afterwards, Shaylor didn't even let out a squawk.
  17. My grey loves to nibble on a piece of shredded chicken. I give it to him sparingly.
  18. Loved these! Makes me ponder what signs I could create for my menagerie of 9!
  19. Please keep us posted! So glad to hear that he's improving.
  20. Yep. I clean their bowls with paper towels as well.
  21. Oh no! Please let us know how everything went at the vets today. Here's hoping that it's nothing serious.
  22. We only use sunflower seeds very sparingly when training our CAG, Maalik. He'll do practically anything for a sunflower seed!
  23. I'm an RN, so I love seeing stuff like that!
