Yes, big improvement in the cage! The one you have for them is just like Timber's cage and he loves it. There are places that are awkward to clean in it, but he likes the space and layout so it is worth it to me.

Toilet paper cardboard rolls and paper towel cardboard rolls were good starter toys when I rehomed Timber. He was scared of just about everything, but the cardboard rolls got his interest. The foraging is a good thing to try too. They are foragers by nature, and seem to enjoy something they have to work for more. Timber tends to eat raw vegetables better if I hang them on a skewer. You will just have to try different things to determine what Dolly likes. Also, like a child, they may not like something this week then like it next week, so keep offering vegetables even if Dolly initially rejects them.

Haaa... does Gilda ever ask visitors if they "sh** on the floor" when they go in the bathroom? I have to admit that would be funny, assuming it wasn't my minister or my mother... It is interesting that they have their routines with different family members. Timber says "goodbye" but usually only to my husband. When hubby was leaving for work at 3:30 AM (prior to his retirement) he said Timber always said "goodbye" when he left. Timber never, ever says goodbye to me. He gives his contact call, which I can hear outside, any time I leave. He also tends to say "hello" to hubby but rarely to me. When I come in he vocalizes, but it is usually clicks and whistles until he settles down.

I've been curious about the clay thing from some videos of greys in the wild I have seen as well. I would imagine the local clay they consume has very specific properties unique to the environment though, so I wouldn't try to do that kind of supplementation myself.

Sounds like your first day went great! What a beautiful bird I would bet that over 90% of the greys on the forum do the low battery beep. That sound seems particularly attractive to them. Keep us posted!

Hello and welcome to you and Georgie! It sounds like you are off to a good start in building a relationship him. As for the skittishness, that is very normal in a new environment. After Georgie adjusts to the sights and sounds of your home, he probably won't be startled so easily. It helps to get into a routine so he knows what to expect. When to go to bed, when to get up, where he will be sleeping etc. Most of the forum members do abundance feeding, which means pellets/and or seed is available all the time. My Timber eats off and on all through the day and is also known to snack at night. Dan has already addressed diet so I won't go there, though I would add that a couple of small pieces of fruit per week is enough, because of the high sugar content. My house is between 66 and 70 in the winter. I have a supplemental heater in Timber's area to make sure it stays in at 68 or above. I know parrots often survive colder temps if they are acclimated. However, I would rather be safe and keep him warm.

Yikes! A few simple searches didn't yield a better price. Have you tried your local library? Apparently the publisher (lucky books) is no longer in business. The book must be out of print?

I don't think the band matters one way or the other. Many of us have bands removed for safety's sake.

I can't address the cost because I don't know the answer. As luvparrots said, costs vary from state to state. I can say that 6 is not too old to develop a bond, I rehomed Timber at 5 last year (he is 6 now) and it has worked well for us. As was also pointed out, there are never any guarantees but that applies to a baby too. These birds have a lot of personality is the best way I can say it. Even among the forum members, you can see as you read that each bird is different. Different attitudes, different likes and dislikes, different in how much or how little they want to be handled etc. Good luck and happy hunting
