I am going to try a few things, We are taking her to the vet very soon plus I am buying the Austin air purifier I heard it's amazing, I have one running now the dang filter was 70$ and it seems to be just pushing the dander and dust around more then anything! The Austin air has a 30 day money back so it's worth the try! I have a feeling that her cage was COVERED in dander/dust and they cleaned it up b4 I came to get her. I can see on the cage where the grey parts have whitish looking powder when you get it wet it goes away and after it dries it back to that same look. I am thinking about buying a new cage for her she is blind so maybe even the same one that she has now.

I know it's her because I was fine b4 she got here, BUT she had not been showered in all her life 12+ years and they smoked in the house and who knows what kinda allergins were there getting on her. So I have been cleaning her cage with apple cider vinegar w mother in it and it was doing great, I changed to the white because it's well cheaper and that's when it started getting bad again. I wonder if the apple cleans the dander better then the white LOL. I am just searching for things! Adding.... When you find dander around your house is it a fine powder or small chunks?

Kins the lady that runs the sanctuary is a good friend of mine so it's more of a home she does not have a ton of birds and has another blind grey I know she will be safe and taken care of. danmcq I am buying one tomorrow! I was thinking the same thing! thanks a bunch!

I know it's her for sure, When I am away from her I am fine. I do have allergies but not to birds, Well 3 years ago I was not that can change in a heart beat. I have a mask on today so we shall see.

So, Most of you know about Gracie got her from a friend that did not take care of her at all and she is blind. Well I have started to have breathing problems a few weeks back and I knew right away it was from the dander. I have spent a ton of time around Cockatoo's and never once had a asthma attack. I have even clean cockatoo cages, I work in a pet store for 5 years and cleaned all types of bird cages that were inclosed in glass. I have a air cleaner running on high 24/7 I am using an inhaler as needed and taking an allergy med also I am giving her a shower once a day cleaning down her cage and cleaning everything in the room everyday. It was going great then BAMB back to not breathing ok again! I am doing EVERYTHING I can to keep this baby girl I am IN LOVE with her!! I have a friend that runs a sanctuary and she will take her forever if I can not keep her. UGH! This just makes me so mad!!! Never ever ever did I think this would happen! But I can say even if she has to go it was better off that I took her instead of leaving her in that nasty house she came from. I am going to give it till after xmas. Another thing is I was visting a friend that works at a avian vet and I was standing in a room with cockatoos and grey and not ONCE was I bothered. whats going on? I know grey's are dusty but Gracie it seems like when she shakes someone is pouring powder out of a bottle. I just don't know

Anyone with a female ring neck with a BIG attitude? This is not middle with the girls she is HOT or COLD! I have had Polly going on 4 years now I am her 3 rd home. Polly has a bird room that she is free in all of the time. Half of it is our art/ computer room so a ton of time is spent up there. Some day she will be so friendly other she will attack you. I mean go at your face full fight and nail you. Is this just a ring neck thing?

I made some birdy bread over this past weekend and added pellets nutriberries, Walnuts and some berries. Gracie was given only seed for the past 12+ years of her life and I am having a hard time getting her to eat anything but that! So I pack the little muffins with good stuff and she must not even know it's in there!!! She eats it up right away A muffin a day will keep the doctor away :cool:

Is there any way to tell how old a grey might be? I really think Gracie is much older then I was told but that might just be from the care she had got.

Could one mix some aloe be added to bath water? Gracie does NOT like being sprayed.

Yes, It's such a cool place and she and her hubby are wonderfull people! She just got a puppy and she is doing great with the birds so far. Lara is teaching the pup to place so that if a bird ever took off flying and the dog got excited or a door opened to the outside and she needed the dog to stop and go to it's place she would. Keep checking the page she updates alot.

Well Gracie had her first bath today, I thought the tub would be her best bet as she does not like the sprayer and she can't hurt herself in the tub. I was SO worried she was going to flip out. Gracie did GREAT!!! I can't say she loved but she just walked around talking and drinking the water LOL!! She has never had a bath and it needed to be done she had chunks of dander falling off!!!!! Yuck! So now I don't have to worry about her hating the tub

Today was a good day for Gracie, Yesterday she spent a lot of time sleeping, I think that's what she spent most of her time doing in her old home. I balled up paper and tossed that in, I put an almond in one and a ball with a bell on it. She loves it!!! She already knows to go to the bottom of the cage and fell around with her feet for fun stuff and goodies what a smart girl:) She was awake a lot more today!! We would whistle back and forth that went on for about 3 hours LOL I would tell her how pretty and she would do it again, At one point I was up stairs taking care of my Ring neck polly heard her whistle ran to the stairs and told her how pretty that was!! LOL She now comes to the font of the cage when i call her name <3 My Standard Poodle Onyx is so confused by this talking bird LOL!

Now that Gracie is here I am just so mad about how she was kept! I am almost 99./9% sure she is all the way blind in one eye and part in the other if not almost all the way. We will know more in a few weeks after a vet visit. her cage has ONE toy in it and its really not even a toy she swing on it./ The perches are horrible I will be ordering rope perches thursday I hope she likes them. I gave her that cardboard and she went to town on it LOL./ She LOVES food lol she had eggs this morning and pomegranate this after noon, My ring neck goes made for that fruit LOL, I am starting to train her to know what I am about to do. When I offer her food I say Graice treat, Then had her the food. This afternoon I was talking to her telling her she was so pretty, She came over and kept standing very tall and then would whistle and make this loud clicking noises not sure if that means she likes it or not.
