  1. Yes, I do too. I don't often comment, but look forward to my "Gilda" fix
  2. There he is! I see him now. What a sweet baby
  3. I don't think the band matters one way or the other. Many of us have bands removed for safety's sake.
  4. I can't address the cost because I don't know the answer. As luvparrots said, costs vary from state to state. I can say that 6 is not too old to develop a bond, I rehomed Timber at 5 last year (he is 6 now) and it has worked well for us. As was also pointed out, there are never any guarantees but that applies to a baby too. These birds have a lot of personality is the best way I can say it. Even among the forum members, you can see as you read that each bird is different. Different attitudes, different likes and dislikes, different in how much or how little they want to be handled etc. Good luck and happy hunting
  5. Oh Lord how devastating! I'm so glad you were able to save your TAG. My heart goes out to you, and I appreciate your willingness to share. Hopefully this post will prevent a tragedy like this in someone else's home. I'm not fond of cooking everything in stainless steel (works fine for some things, not as well for others) but that's what I do. If I hadn't read about the dangers of nonstick on this forum I don't think I would have even known though.
  6. Timber has a plastic chain as a toy, but as Acappella mentioned the links are very large. He can get his whole head in and out of the links.
  7. Absolutely right, thanks Steve. My thought was register like you do a dog or cat with their associations. Doh.
  8. Are you getting two cages? Unless they are a bonded pair they each need a cage. I know how you feel about the cage. When I rehomed Timber 17 months ago he came in a nasty, old, small cage. He was attached to it though and it took almost 8 months to get him to accept the new cage.
  9. Hello and welcome! Give us some more info about your birds, like names, ages, etc. We also love pictures
  10. No pro here, but I don't think you need to "register" your parrots.
  11. Jurey, the trust thing just takes time. A week is no time at all in "grey time." Most birds will step up easily from the floor, even if they won't any other time. That is normal.
  12. I'm so sorry for your loss Wayne! God bless.
  13. Hello and welcome to you and Zazu Just talk softly to him and give it time!
  14. How cool is that! Glad your conure found her forever home
  15. What judygram said is important to this situation. When Timber regurgs as a "love offering" it is very controlled and obvious. I don't encourage it, but it has happened.
  16. Hello and welcome Shane Keep us posted on your search and feel free to ask any questions you have. Good luck and God bless
  17. I think you make a good point. I don't know how many people expect their bird to be like Alex, but I'm sure some do. Not that they are willing to devote that kind of time to it, as you pointed out. I didn't really have any expectations when I brought Timber home. I knew he said some words, and he ran through most of his vocabulary on the way home (didn't speak for about 3 days after we finally got here). Because of all the youtube videos of parrots like Einstein and Alex, I can see why some might have unrealistic expectations.
  18. I don't know what a mung bean looks like so I'm not sure if Timber eats them or not. I keep sprouted seed available all the time with his other fresh food. His other bean mixes are cooked. I just got curious when I saw this question as to whether there were any beans in his mix. I knew I'd seen garbanzo in there, but didn't realize there were any other beans.
  19. I'm curious now. Following is what is in the mix I sprout for Timber (Big Bird mix from sprout people): Bird Sprout Mix - Big Bird Almonds (shelled), Sunflower (in shell), Wheat, Spelt (hulled), Kamut, Triticale, Barley (hulless), Oats (hulless), Millet, Buckwheat (in hull), Brown Rice, Green Lentils, Crimson Lentils, French Blue Lentils and Red Lentils, Adzuki Beans, Mung Beans, Black Garbanzos, Brown Garbanzos and Large Beige Garbanzos, Green Peas, Speckled Peas and Yellow Peas, Blue and Yellow Corn
  20. No expert here but I think it depends on what "fat" we are talking about. Most of us give some red palm since it is a large part of their native diet. Hopefully someone with more experience will chime in
  21. Neat! That pic reminded me of last Christmas (our first with Timber). He was so excited about all the excitement. I had him on his playstand in the living room where we were opening presents. One of the kids said "mom, did you notice that Timber is on the couch behind you?" I hadn't, but he was peering over my shoulder intently at the package I was opening. It was early days in our relationship then. This year, I hope he will open one of his gifts himself now that he is more comfortable.
  22. Yes, Isaac looks great! Love his "WHAT???" expression. Thanks for sharing
