  1. Interesting. I have two very large aloe plants. I've always used them for cuts, scrapes, burns and especially sun burns. That is just a matter of slitting the leaf and applying externally. I still don't think I'm going to take it internally.
  2. Wow, Jeff, that is a very kind offer! No I didn't get the fleece cover so don't know about that.
  3. What a sad situation! If the lady has dementia she may have had a plan, but is incapable of expressing it now. Makes it all the more important to write it down and always be prepared
  4. Loved the pics! I need to have hubby take some of Timber "assuming the position." He's become quite the cuddler too.
  5. When I was ordering, I called and talked to the pack-o-bird people. They said that even though I have a small TAG I needed to get the "African Grey" one. Maybe a sales tactic, but they convinced me!
  6. Excellent suggestion. I have one also so I can check on Timber when I'm at work or away. It does give you peace of mind.
  7. LOL, well, recently there was someone asking on the forum if they could juice their aloe plants to use. The answer was "no." You just never know!
  8. Grumpy, don't make your own. You can buy aloe juice in a large container at Walmart in this area. I don't know what you have available but you don't need to get it at a pet store. Just make sure it is 100% pure aloe vera juice.
  9. Hello Merideth and welcome to you and your flock! You have a house full. We'd love to hear more about your birds and see some pics!
  10. I know we sound like broken records but it is just the truth. 3 weeks is nothing in grey time. Just hang in there!
  11. That is a real cool pic, thanks for sharing!
  12. What a relief! So glad things turned out well for you. Thanks for letting us know
  13. Hello and welcome to you and Buddy! Since greys don't forget people in their lives, I'll bet it will be an exciting reunion. Keep us posted!
  14. Timber likes peek-a-boo and he also likes playing fetch (I'm the dog in the game of course). I throw a small plastic ball on his playtop. He runs for it, grabs it and tosses it in my general direction for me to retrieve and toss back.
  15. That one is beautiful too! I have four cats. The cats pay little attention to Timber, which causes him no end of grief. He is always trying to get their attention. He will call to them, meow at them, hang low on his cage trying to grab their tails as they pass by, and throwing things at them from his playtop. They just give him a "what the heck" look and walk on. He is obviously frustrated that they don't fear him as he thinks they should, but I'm sure glad none of them are aggressive with him. That said, I never leave them unattended with him, and watch them all them time they are out together. Accidents happen so fast.
  16. They especially enjoy the praise they get for a job well done! Enjoyed the video
  17. Just in case I wasn't clear, I wasn't talking about sticking my hand in his cage to pet him before bed. He would come over to the side of the cage and I would scratch his head from outside the cage by putting my finger through the bars. As stated, their cage is their "safe" zone, especially in the early days. Timber felt safer with the bars between us and was more receptive to scratches.
  18. Timber was already named when he came to me. That isn't the name that I would have chosen, but he says it often and obviously associates it with himself, so I didn't want to try to change it. If I had named him, I would have probably went with Loki. I just like that one!
  19. I have a lot of mixed feelings about the whole concept. Most of us have birds that were bred in captivity. They have never lived in the wild, have no concept of how to do that, and live pretty pampered lives (I'm talking about the forum member's birds here). I'd like to think Timber is happy. Would he be happier in the wild? Perhaps, if he had the skills to survive. With the birds most of us have, it is a moot issue. The more disturbing thing is looking at it from the breeder's perspective. Is it right to continue breeding birds in captivity? In the end I guess everyone has to make their own decisions about that. That said, Timber has really enriched my life. At this point I can't imagine life without a bird. Selfish? Maybe, but there it is...
