  1. sounds like you are doing a great job .. thanks for rescueing him from a bad place unfit for birds. my advice is to keep doing what you are doing and just talk to him let him move along at his own pace ... lotta patience and just talking i think once he feels secure again he'll talk up a storm welcome
  2. well i can tell you this much .... alot of greys dont like the showers ... or least squawk n make a fuss ... I bought a mister and i have a little stand that i put in the shower and that works GREAT but its a very fine mist. I started this while shes young getting her used to and only once a week on like the weekends when Im home with her. When I shower I bring her in the bathroom with me and put her on the curtain rod and talk to her and as of late shes let me put her in the stream of water there too but not for long ... so just work with her! Ive even had her on the end of the wand that goes on my hose outside for watering the flowers and pointed it upward with the mister on and she sat on the wand and loved it! then we do the whole "whos a wet bird" and I let her look in the mirror ... I think its just getting a routine with them so that they get comfortable with it good luck
  3. wowzers i hope the vet can help you and that momo settles down for you!
  4. Gosh I would think that would just be unbelievably hard to do regardless of blackout curtains and uv lights. I know I spent sooooooo much $ on Marco I would not want to attempt to do something that is unnatural for her and alter her in any way. I would consider getting a cat thats my advice
  5. welcome to the forum I have only had my baby home for 3 months and she was bought from a pet store that only hand feeds their babies and wont let them go home until fully weened and holding their weight on their own. Its a painfully long wait, but I felt so good about that. I traveled every Sat/Sun for 3 months out to see her about 100 miles one way. She was nippy at the store but then I started to bring toys and treats for her and got her accustomed to that. I worked on step up with her while there and would spend 3-6 hours visiting her each time. But I have to say since having her home, shes nothing like she was in the store surrounded by other people and birds and such. Shes much calmer and she KNOWS she rules the house now lol. She is definately bonded with me the most I spend the most time with her. She accepts hubby "now" but that wasnt an instant thing, that was with alot of work and bites for him and his insistance that she step up until she complied. Now she doesnt even throw a fit. He (when home) spends time talkin to her as well and that helps. Marco has a huge cage with tons and tons of toys, shes in her cage while we are at work and every moment we are home shes out of the cage playing on something We dont cover her up at night, and shes in the family room where the tv is on and she has no problems with that. I line the cage with newspaper as well and change that a few times a week and then take the cage outside with hubbys help and clean it down w/the hose. I have a special carpet i bought to go under the cage to catch anything she drops and that has helped LOTS!
  6. LMAOOOOOOOOO !!!!!! peeks head out the cage.... I will definately have to work on that. I know them 2 boys that live here specially when I squawk super duper loud in the mornings THEY squawk back with pretty words to me (like Im gonna listen) I so cant wait to start repeating that and letting mom hear me! THEN I can listen to her squawk at the boys for teaching me it! :D I got this all planned out!
  7. <sneaks in> psssssst Marco here .... I havent had lots of time to learn all your fun habits but I did take notes on all of the above posts. I can tell you tho ........ I reallllllly love to imitate the alarm clock at about 6am reallllly loudly over and over and the humans around me seem to really enjoy that also  Some of the fun things that I have learned to do so far, is grabbing the newspapers off the top of my playgym area of my cage and shred it and when Im done shredding it ... I hurl it over the side of the cage and watch it flutter to the ground and when I run out of paper to do that to, I grab the nearest toy and hurl that instead and listen to it CLUNK when it hits the ground or the bottom of the cage Then if Im lucky the human walks over and picks it up right away so I can do it again ... Boy do I have them trained. :D I am getting stronger by the day and my humans have got to witness some of the fun things I have been trying like hanging upside down and attacking toys or swinging from the toys in my cage They must like it cuz everytime I get my swerve on, they are filming or snapping pictures so I have to stop and pose mid attack. But one of my favorite things to do is sing (chirp/whistle) with my owner Ive only just begun to figure out words so .... watch out I can hello you to death now and say ding dong and peanut :D
  8. I dont cover marco at all and she sleeps in the family room w/the tv on just fine doesnt complain
  9. lovely pics marco's eyes are just like your babies!
  10. welcome back !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so good to see you hope all the medical issues are now over with! roxie definately sounds like shes fit into your home well! those are all exciting things shes doing! marco is coming along like that too with lots of whistles, clicks, and a few words she'll just say once and I think it even suprises her when she does it and then it'll be days before she'll do it again. cant wait to see new pics of roxie
  11. I believe Marco just loves it!!!!!! totally ... and the sunshine is so good for her
  12. i have a baby girl grey too she is 5mo old and I brought her home a lil over 3mo old her name is Marco and there is so so so much to learn IMO and buy before bringing your baby home. So much to do and read as well ... welcome to the family
  13. OH MAN ... so much to look forward to? lol Marco has definately not gotten that brave or destructive "Yet". She did break a glass by flying into the kitchen and knocking it outta the drainer but that was an accident.
  14. LMAO oooooooh man Marco got in my purse and snagged my debit card and began to walk off with it  but thanks for the thought, I have meds in my purse I will def be more careful
  15. omg i love your lil green/grey baby ... opey
  16. smiles ... that is awesome I cant wait for that time ! She likes to come in the bathroom while I shower and sit ontop of the rod ... she LOVES to splash in the water too! I know when I come home now the dogs bark and she has begun chirp/barking too ... I believe because she sees them do it.
  17. thanks so much :) glad to have you round the boards!

  18. I think you are smart for keeping the name gomez Im sure over time you will come up with a shorter version of it that you will like and start calling her that like my puppy is cricket but I call her crickety crick ... LOL you could call your baby go-me lol anyways or gomez'er play with it. and as far as talking i can totally relate  the neighbor who checks on marco during the day is always reporting that when hes there marco is saying words  but i never hear it either I think she does alot more of her whistling and sqwaking when im in the other room too when Im home ... she doesnt "talk" alot since shes only 5 mo but she does know like 2 words that just pop out from time to time but never when Im there LOLOL
  19. patience is definately the key and letting charlie do things in his own time glad hes got such a loving home !! sounds like you ALL are settling in well!
