  1. Ya know, that had crossed my mind as well, but I like to think that people aren't that cruel, ya know? The reality is that some are, but I try not to think that there are such awful people in this world. Thank you for your prayers, and I hope you can check in often as well. Take care.
  2. Thank you to everyone. I forgot to add that he weighed in at 514 grams. The average weight for a U2 is around 600 grams, so he is very thin right now. He will get 2ml of pedialyte every 6-8 hours by mouth, and I will also be mixing some with his water. I have to force feed him 10ml of formula 3-4 times daily, and slowly increase the amount to 40ml 3-4 times a day until his weight is back on track, and his breast bone is no longer prominent. Room temp must be increased, and I have to free feed him seed, but can still offer pellets, and his fruits and veggies. He will also get his .45 of Baytril once a day for ten days. I decided not to involve the previous owners or the SPCA because I truly do feel like they were more ill informed than negligent. They have been completely honest with me about everything up until now, and still are. The woman even cried when I picked Barnaby up. These people are older, late 60's or so, and honestly just didn't have the knowledge to give him the care that he needs. She even told me today that she didn't think anything about his soiled vent area, and would just think he needed a shower, so she would just wash him down, and think nothing of it. All I care about now is getting him healthy, and I am thankful that I got him when I did. He perked up a bit a little while ago, but is back to sleeping now. I am hoping once he puts some weight on, and gets this bacterial infection out of his system he will feel better, and be back to being a crazy Cockatoo. I would imagine that would make him happy, as I'm sure it has been a long time since he has felt well.
  3. LOL! Not a whole lot out there that is as reliable as that!
  4. Hey everyone. So as most of you know, Barnaby was supposed to go to the vet tomorrow, but I came down and found him sleeping on the bottom of the cage. I didn't want to risk waiting, so straight to the vet he went. To make a long story short, he is very emaciated, and dehydrated. The vet said that he has been deprived decent food for so long that it is finally taking it's toll, even though he has been eating pellets for the last couple days. Also, even though he is getting plenty of water, she thinks he may have a kidney issue, or fatty liver disease, so even though he is drinking all the time, he is not absorbing the water he needs. He also kept peeing while he was there, which is another sign that there is an issue with his liver or kidneys. They injected him with some fluids, drew blood, and did a gram stain on his poop. On top of all of this stuff that he already has going on, he had gram negative in the fecal test To sum it up, Barnaby is VERY ill. He has done nothing but sleep today, and is completely quiet. The vet said he was sick before I got him, and the stress of the move brought out the illness even more so that he could no longer hide it. I am thankful we got him when we did, any longer, and it would have been too late for him. I now must give Barnaby Baytril every day for 10 days, he must drink pedialyte instead of water, he must be hand fed formula 4 times a day, and I have to continue to give him his seed for now so he will not lose any more weight. I am hoping and praying he will pull through this. They sent his blood out to be tested, and I should know something by Monday of next week. Everyone, please keep Barnaby in your prayers....
  5. Seriously? How did I miss these pics? Absolutely adorable. Good luck with the limeade recipe. I hope you come up with something they like!

  7. Yes, that does always help to make the decision. I didn't get to meet with my little guy to pick him out. There were 3 babies in the clutch, but it felt right, ya know? He is a few states away from me, and will fly on an airplane to me Will you guys be visiting with Lola from time to time? I wish I could do that as well, but I suppose it will be worth the wait.
  8. Hahaha! Well I can understand that!
  9. Seeing things like this just makes me absolutely irate! I wish them the best, and hope they find their babies!
  10. Well everyone, Barnaby's vet appointment is tomorrow, and I have to be honest, I am so incredibly nervous about getting bad news that I don't want to hear. I am praying every day that he can get healthy again, I am just do afraid that he was liver damage. Everyone wish me luck, and thank you for being supportive.
  11. I am glad you could get some use from it, as well as enjoyed it
  12. Well it sounds like he is well on his way! You will have him in that bowl in no time
  13. I swear they have the PRETTIEST baby beaks! When did you get her for your son? I got my Kiwi last summer too, so they may very well be right around the same age. I hand fed Kiwi, she was 8 weeks old when I got her, and still on 2 feeding a day. Now she is a healthy little handful LOL! I just absolutely LOVE Quakers.... such big birds in a little tiny body

    Don't Touch Me!

Haha I saw this video awhile back, and loved it. I spend a lot of time on youtube watching birdy vids
  19. Hahahaha! I seriously loved that! Wish I could be a fly on the wall to see that!
  20. I use many different sizes, but nothing too small, so that their feet can get the exercise they need. I love the rope perches, but also have natural wood, and grapevine. I don't use concrete, or sandy perches, as from what I understand, they can cause open abrasions on their feet, and since they normally don't vary in width, their feet don't get the exercise they need. I trim my birds nails, or will take them in and have it done, and they get plenty of beak exercise, and chewing done to prevent beak overgrowth when they chew their toys, and wooden perches. Here is a quote from an article that highlights this subject: "Sand and concrete perches can cause painful abrasions on the underside of your bird's feet and toes. To add to the problem, bacteria and debris from the perch can be introduced to those wounds every time your bird perches, causing a constant threat of infection. The shape of the perches can also be an issue. Many concrete and sand perches are straight, and do not vary in width. This can cause stress to the delicate bones in your bird's feet. Pet birds need to be supplied with perches of varied widths and textures in order to maintain normal foot health. As far as perches go, the best thing you can do for your bird is skip the concrete and sand and opt for a natural wood perch, like Manzanita. These perches will not only feel great on your bird's feet, but they are safe to chew on and provide beak exercise as well! While it's unfortunate that they don't wear a bird's nails down, you can always seek the help of a qualified avian vet for those pesky nail trims -- your pet will be much healthier and happier for it"!
  21. Merry Christmas to you both as well! I hope you had a great day, and I loved your Christmas pics!
  22. Yes, we can't have a "like" button because Facebook will sue us all, and we will all have to change our names to Mark Zuckerburg LOL, sorry to anyone that hasn't read about that yet.
  23. Hahahaha! Loved the pic! I wrapped all of my presents the other night, and when the wrapping paper tubes were empty, I cut them down to smaller sizes, and stuffed all of my scrap wrapping paper inside. Needless to say, it was thoroughly enjoyed....and chewed, and ripped, and shredded
