Marco's First Week (not even)--how ya'll think he's doing?
DawL replied to MonkeyBird's topic in The Nursery
Gawwwww!!! How insanely CUTE he is! LOVE the second picture down. He looks so curious there! -
I just wanted to say 2 things...first, it is great that your breeder is there to help you with any questions you may have about your baby! There are so many breeders out there that don't care, and don't make themselves available after purchase. It is very common for a baby to regress to wanting to be hand fed after he goes to his new home, even if he was "fully weaned" before he arrived to you. I would continue the hand feeding until he decides he is done. It is excellent bonding time! Second, Dr. Scott McDonald is a FANTASTIC avian vet! If we are talking about the same vet (and I think we are) I take my fids to see him whenever he is in town! I have an Avian Vet here for checkups if he is not in town at that time, and for any emergencies, but if Dr. McDonald is around, we go to him!

I seriously LOL'D at that statement! Anyhow, he sounds like a happy little guy. Have you posted pics of him yet? I would love to see him. I am expecting a little CAG baby boy hopefully in January. He is almost 7 weeks old now I know everything has you worried right now, and you're asking yourself if you are doing everything right, but dont worry, soon you will be parronting with your eyes closed, and making birdie bread with one arm behind your back! -
Awww! Congrats! I LOVE Cockatiels, they are so sweet. And of course let's not forget the finches... their cute little "beep" noises, and constant fluttering is so incredibly cute! Enjoy!

I love Christmas because there is nothing better than watching the joy, and excitement my children have when they get up at 5am to open gifts. I remember being that child... I remember not being able to sleep on Christmas Eve because every time I would close my eyes I would SWEAR I heard sleigh bells. I remember making cookies the night before, only to be absolutely SHOCKED the next morning when the milk and cookies I set out for Santa was nowhere to be found...only crumbs and an empty glass. I remember being a kid on Christmas, and watching my children every year makes me feel like a kid again. Merry Christmas to all of you, and I hope this year we can all feel a little bit of a child's joy on Christmas Day.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR A NEW CAT 1. Take cold chicken and stars soup straight from the can and splash it across the carpet and the foot of the bed and then walk in it in the dark with your socks on. 2. Set up a mouse trap at the foot of the bed each night so that if you move a toe one inch while you are sleeping, you are sure to get snapped. 3. Cover all your best suits with cat hair. Dark suits must use white hair, and light suits must use dark hair. Also, float some hair in your first cup of coffee in the morning. 4. Put everything cat-toy sized into a water bowl to marinate. 5. Practice cutting your chicken into teeny tiny bites so that when they steal, it won't be the whole breast. 6. Tip over a basket of clean laundry, and scatter clothing all over the floor. 7. Leave your underwear on the living room floor, because that's where the cat will drag it anyway (especially when you have company). 8. Jump out of your chair shortly before the end of your favorite TV program and run to the TV shouting "No! No! Don't chew on the electric cord!" Miss the end of the program. 9. Put chocolate pudding on the carpet in the corner of the living room in the morning and don't try to clean it up until you return from work that evening. 10. Gouge the surface of the dining room table several times with an exacto knife. It's going to get scratched anyway. 11. Practice searching every closet and open cabinet door before you shut it. 12. Knock all small items off your kitchen counter. 13. Chew the eraser off every pencil in the house. 14. Take a fork and shred the roll of toilet paper while it's still hanging up. Pull a few sheets off and scatter them around the bathroom. 15. Take a staple remover and punch two holes in every scrap of paper around the house. 16. Get a litter tray without a lid and mix in some tootsie rolls with cat litter and then tip it over right before the company comes. Make sure your guests get to find this before you do. 17. Buy a mixed bag of cat toys and stuff them under the refrigerator. Practice getting up at 2AM and fishing them out with a ruler or broom stick. 18. Take a warm cuddly blanket out of the dryer and immediately wrap it around yourself. This is the feeling you will get when your new cat falls asleep on your lap. :)

Welcome and Congrats! I am sure you and Shiloh will be very happy with one another. It really is like adopting a child! -
I sure did get the 10% off, but thanks for the heads up! I read the thread you posted, and that box looked AWESOME! I would have had just as much fun going through it as you did...and I am looking forward to that in 3-5 business days

Isn't that the truth. I was looking around online before you guys told me about that site, and I even looked on Amazon. There was a 25lb. bag of the food I was looking for for 59.99 or something along those lines, but the shipping was $30!! After I got on mysafebirdstore.com I was able to order the same size bag, and brand, and also a BUNCH of bird toy parts, and the shipping was FREE! So thank you everyone!

Thank you for this website! I love it!

I went to petco today to see what they had to offer as far as pellets go, and I did see the Zupreem, but only the fruit blends. I thought I had read online that these weren't "as good" as the organic, or natural pellets. Does anyone know if there is any truth to that statement?
-
Hey everyone! I just found out that my local pet store is going out of business, so I won't be able to get my pellets there anymore. I would like to start ordering online in bulk because there are no other stores here that have Roudybush. I was hoping you guys could give me some good websites for ordering bulk food online, and was curious about what everyone here likes to use for their fids as far as pellets go. Thank you!

I am sure most of you have read the post in this room about the U2 named Barnaby that I will be adopting. He has had a very rough life (please see other post "Cockatoo Advice Wanted") and has been neglected. His owners contacted me after finally realizing they cannot care for Barnaby properly, and asked me to take him. I was worried that I wouldn't be able to go and get him until after Christmas (4 hours there and back) but just found out, and made arrangements to go and pick him up on the 22nd! We will be going to pick him up early afternoon, and I will try and get pics if he is feeling up to it. His owners are even going to meet me half way in Greensboro to save me some time. They say they just want him to go to a good home, and they know he will be well cared for with me. I cannot WAIT to go get him, and start our life together. This is going to be one spoiled bird. I started this thread to chronicle Barnaby's journey with me, and to show his progress over time. Attached are pics of Barnaby's cage that the current owners sent me (NO TOYS ) ... will update this thread ASAP! Everyone wish me luck! The 22nd can't come soon enough!

Thank you to both of you... he really is a Christmas miracle for me, and I hope I can be just as much a miracle to him. He deserves so much more than what he is getting now. Honestly, I am nervous though. It is really like bringing home an adopted child. I worry so much about doing everything right, but I know after he gets here, and we both settle down a bit, it will all come naturally. My biggest worry is him not eating the foods that he needs. As of now, I think I remember them saying he will only eat seed, which is just awful. I swear I am going to go to the grocery store and picking up everything I can possibly think of for him to eat, and will find SOMETHING he likes! Also, I know it will be quite a task to get him onto pellets from the seeds after 8 years. It is going to be a long road, but it will be worth every step taken.

Absolutely GORGEOUS!

So how is Chickie doing? Did she settle in nicely?

LOL! It is okay if you don't like his name, and I appreciate your honestly. We chose Grimm, to name him after Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, aka The brothers Grimm, who wrote "Children's and Household tales, also known as "The Grimm Fairytales". We chose this for many reasons, one of them is because the Brothers Grimm were both German, and this book was published in 1812 in Germany, and I am German (though born in America). My grandmother doesn't speak a word of English. Another reason is because I am interested in things like this, and other tales/poetry. One of my favorite writers is Edgar Allan Poe, and I did toy with the name Poe, but decided on Grimm instead. I guess everyone has their preferences, and different personalities. How many birds do you have? What are their names?

I know! I just couldn't get over it! He si getting so incredibly BIG! So much has changed in him in such a short amount of time. Can't wait for next week, and I can only imagine how big he will be when he gets to come home!

Happy Sunday everyone! I love Sundays, because they mean updates on Grimm!!! I got an email from Lea a bit ago, and she was telling me about how she plays peek-a-boo with them, how he waddles around all over the place now, and how he is eating soft foods, along with fruits, veggies, and millet. She also told me that he is the first one to get up and go investigate new things, and he is now staying awake for longer periods of time. We can't wait to have him home! I have also attached Grimm's 6 week pics. It is so amazing how much they change in such a short amount of time. When I got these pics my jaw just DROPPED. Makes me wonder what he will look like next week. Enjoy!
