LOL! It's Marnie! I love Marnie, he is adorable. That woman's hubby is an avian vet, so I am sure she gets to have as many birds as she wants. Lucky lady!

Okay, so I happened to come across this video the other night when I was having one of my youtube adventures. Please be aware that the Grey says a naughty word at the very end of the video, but it is everything before that that made me almost die from laughter! If you don't want to hear the naughty word, simply click it off @:35 seconds. It is not that bad of a word, but just want everyone to be aware.

Well that is another great toy suggestion! I don't even notice any loud toys. I have 4 young daughters, and have perfected the art of selective hearing

Hey there everone! I hope you are having a lovely New Years Day! I was wondering if we might have any members that have used clicker trainging with success, and if they would mind giving me some advice on where to start, and any other pointers they can think of. I ordered a clicker, and got it via UPS last Friday. The vet suggested that I start clicker training with Barnaby to keep his mind off of any mating behavior, to try and stop him from prolapsing. So far in the last few days he has only showed this behavior once, but I would love to do clicker training with him and my other fids regardless. Any advice or tips are greatly appreciated!

Am I the only one that will spend New Year's Eve at home?:-(

LOVE homemade, hot cocktail sauce! I don't get to eat shrimp too often though, because my husband is allergic to it I swear that is the only bad thing about him LOL! -
Great advice Wingy. You illustated this very well, and the tissue paper practice method is a great idea. Thank you.

Thank you to you both. I guess all that I can do now is wait. It is just so difficult to differenciate between what is normal from a new home, and move, and him being sick. He has times where he is very quiet, and just sits there, and I worry that he is not feeling well. It is so hard to tell. I just have to rely on the fact that I am doing EVERYTHING that I can to try and pull him throught this. I do feel like he has come a long way since he has been with me, but I definitely fear the worst.

I love this video so much. Kiwi and I are sitting here watching it together, and thought we would share.

I used to go out on NYE every year... but not anymore. Now I could really care less. Tonight was the first New Years my husband has had off in 3 years, and we stayed home, snuggled on the couch watching the ball drop, and had our first kiss of 2012. I couldn't think of a better way to bring in the new year. Now he is in bed, and I am playing around online. Happy New Year to everyone! -
HAHAHAHA! I have to agree with that most definitely! Everything that I have read about this "woman" so far has put one word in my mind..."PSYCHO"!!

Even if someone uses the "earthquake" method, I simply do not understand why they would shake the bird around repeatedly. If I have ever had to resort to an earthquake I just drop my hand down a bit, then back up quickly ONE TIME, and that is all it takes. I would hope people wouldn't do it to the point that they are shaking the bird around like a rag doll, as IMO, it REALLY doesn't require all of that.

I will second that. Very well said.

Happy birthday sweet AnnaBella! I hope she enjoys her new toys

Thanks JimmyDreams! So far time has moved pretty quickly. Hope it keeps it up.

Thank you so much! I can't wait for him to come home. He will be my last bird, and I am looking forward to making my family complete.

Penny, thanks for the heads up on this! I didn't even think about it. My kids go through cereal like you couldn't believe, so I will just start offering these boxes instead.

HAHAHAHAHA!!!!! LOOOOVED THIS! Rikki looks so incredibly satisfied once that bowl finally breaks!

Everyone has a different opinion on these. As far as the quarintine, that is a no questions asked MUST. I do like to cover at least one part of the cage for a new bird, to help them feel safe. I am not sure about turning the heat up 5 degrees. I have never done that honestly, but I am sure someone will come along that may have more experience with that. Now....as far as putting your bird in the cage right away, I really think it depends on the bird. I think that if the bird is interested in you, and shows signs of wanting to spend a little time with you when he gets home, it is perfectly okay. Just be sure to wash your hands well, and change clothing before handling any other birds in the home.

I keep my house between 70-72 every day. My fids seem to stay warm, but you are right about their cold feet. I haven't worried about it though because I don't really see them fluffed up.

Hi Kim, and Happy New Year! Andy sounds like a sweetheart that has had a hard life, and he sure is lucky to have you now. Welcome to the forums, and I look forward to seeing pics -
Hello everyone! I got a New Years update on Grimm tonight Couldn't have asked for a better way to bring in 2012. He is getting so incredibly big! She was nice enough to send me 13 photos, but I only have room for 5 on here, so I have picked my favorites. Enjoy!

Hello everyone. I got a call from the vet today. I got Barnaby's blood test back. She said that his white blood cell count is high, he was slightly anemic, and also she said that his uratic acid count was sky high. The normal level on a test is 11, and his was 42 She said that this could be from a kidney infection, which we are hoping, as the alternative is kidney disease. We have to take him in again on Tuesday to get more blood drawn, and see if his levels have went down. If they have, then it was just an infection, and the antibiotic would have cleared it up. If it is still elevated, it is kidney disease and we will have to talk about other options. This is very hard for me. The wait is unbearable. I am really hoping to get some good news next week. It is just such a blow to know he may be suffering still, and there is not much I can do about it. If it is kidney disease I just dont know what we are going to do as it calls for diet modification among other things, and as of now he is only wanting to eat seed. Everyone please keep Barnaby in your prayers.

I know you feel guilty, but you shouldnt...this is no way your fault. I cant believe they sold their conure to get another bird! Well...at least the conure might be better off. She sounds like a person I REALLY would not get along with. She sounds stuck up, money hungry, rude, ignorant, and flat out ugly. She seems to represent a couple of the few things that I just cannot tolerate, which is animal cruelty and neglect, and possibly a back yard breeder. You didnt really elaborate on that, but even if she is nice to her dogs does not mean she makes great decisions with them either. She sounds like the type of person to breed dogs for the money, not to better the breed. I am sorry you had to go through all of this, and I am sure you are thinking about it a lot...just please dont beat yourself up. I know it is hard, but you seem like a really good person that loves and cares for animals...dont let her ignorance get you down... if you worry too much about the Grey, call and send an organization over there...if it isnt too bad i their eyes, at the the very least hopefully the visit to her home will open hers.

Every bird currently in my home, except one, is a rescue from a neglectful and abusive situation. Knowing that I make them happy every day, and that I have given them the chance at a full and happy life makes every single bite, scream, vet trip, ect. worthwhile. Thank you Penny for this room. It is by far my favorite room...besides the nursery LOL

Thank you Talon! I actually did purchase a scale, but I ordered it online yesterday, and because of the weekend, and the observance of new years day on Monday, it won't be delivered until sometime after that. I used to have one, but I moved and have no idea where it went! Hate when that happens. I am going to call tomorrow and make his vet appointment, so I will update tomorrow evening and let everyone know when it is, and I may POSSIBLY get his blood work results tomorrow as well.
