I agree with greywings. It is not harmful to our fids, but I would use ventilation with anything that has a strong smell. Different things irritate different birds, so better to play it safe. Also, I think that "Poop Off" works very well, although it can be pricey.

I agree, he will be just fine Most of the time it is us who suffer when our fids do these crazy things.

I agree with the above posts. I think you will be fully capable of giving this guy a great home, and with some work and diligence you can change his phobic behavior. It will take awhile, but it will be well worth it once he settles in, and you have gained a new great friend I say go for it if it comes to that.

NVM, I have now realized you have very similar cages Anyhow, I love this cage. I really like the dome top cages. Thank you for sharing. Is there some kind of tree behind it?
-
I like these toys a lot! Do you think that the large could withstand the beak of a U2?
-
That is pretty darn neat! I may just need to get one of those!

Isn't this the cage you are selling in the classifieds room? You posted this yesterday, you must have gotten a new cage fast!

From what I understand, there is no "scientific proof" that it does off gas, HOWEVER there are many people that claim to have lot their birds because of this cook ware, and even some vets say it is not safe. Even if it doesn't put off fumes before 500 degrees, all it would take is one time of forgetting about the pan, and you could really have a problem on your hands. If it were me and my flock, I would avoid it. You can never be too safe about these things, and if something did happen, you would be like me and blame yourself forever! Here is a link that I read before, not sure if you have read it yet or not: http://aparrotforkeeps.blogspot.com/2009/01/warning-about-silicone-bake-cook-ware.html Good luck with your hubby!

I got a box from the same same site a week or so ago, and it was wrapped up so wonderfully as ell, jut the same as yours. It is nice to know that they take the time to make sure all of your order is there, and to wrap it up so nicely. I will definitely be going back as well.

LOL, I suppose you are right Nancy, but it is definitely difficult. It has been tough this week tough, as I have not gotten an update on him since the Sunday before last because of the holidays. I am hoping to get one by tomorrow night!

I definitely agree Ray, and thank you for pointing this out. After working so hard to gain a rehomed bird's trust, the last thing we want to do is have them be afraid of us, and lose that trust. I do think that different things work for different birds, but the roll should always be tried first, especially with a rehomed bird.

That is very true! I think my love for him will definitely help him to feel better sooner. Also, just wanted to let everyone know that earlier Barnaby did flock call for maybe 15 seconds... let me tell you, music to my ears! Also, he decided he would start a game a peek-a-boo with me. I was standing there talking to him, and he said " peek-a-boo" and just looked at me as if he was saying "your turn mommy"! So I played along and would cover my face, and then pull my hands away to play the game. Then he would whip his head to one side and say it again, and then to the other side and say it again. He had his crest up completely, and you could tell that he was so excited that someone was playing with him. I feel so incredibly accomplished to have seen him even come this far, I can only imagine where he will be in a couple months! I am now going to give him his night time feeding, and pedialyte. Will update again soon!

Aww Birdhouse, Charm is so pretty. Gotta love little Quakers. Such mischievous, sweet little things.

Oh this is great! I am so very happy for you. Sounds like a huge breakthrough, and there is no feeling like it, so enjoy, and I hope there are many more to come. Keep us posted!

I agree about the nail file. I hate clipping bird nails for the same reason as Talon. I don't like to do it if I can't see the nail quick. I prefer to file their nails to keep them from getting really sharp, and once a year take them in for a trim if they need it. Most of the birds I have worked with were very willing to have their nails filed, and some of them seemed to really enjoy it.

Thank you so much everyone! It is so uplifting every day to read your posts. It really picks me right back up! BARNABY UPDATE: His feeding is going well, he takes it like a champ, along with his pedialyte, and his antibiotics. It is honestly amazing to me how gentle he is. It breaks my heart to know that he was neglected so much, but you are all right. We were brought together for a reason, and I think it was so I could save his life, and give him the life he deserves. I honestly can see in his eyes that he knows that he is going to be okay now, and it really looks like he understands all of this, and that I love him, and have his best interest at heart. So Barnaby had his first shower today, and he really enjoyed it I have the shower head that you can remove, and spray it where ever you want, and he was letting me lift his wings and spray underneath them, and he loved getting his feet sprayed down. After he was done I filed his nails down a bit, and he acted like he enjoyed that as well. I think he is relishing all of this fuss over him ! After he had his shower he went in the kitchen with me for a bit, and then back onto his cage. He has actually been acting a little better today. He hasn't been as fluffed up, and has been moving around more, no more sleeping on the cage floor, and has vocalized a bit. When I go over to talk to him he will come right up to me and say "What'cha Doin'"? He actually has quite a vocabulary. I called the vet today to ask her a few questions, and she did say that I should see a difference in him within 36 hours of the first dose of Baytril It has been almost 24 hours, but I can tell that it is helping a bit. She said it may not be a HUGE difference because he is underweight, but there will be some improvement. That was some good news! She also said that our target weight gain for him will be 100 grams. In total we would like around 614 grams. We have a long way to go, but I think we will get there. He will be going back to the vet next week so that she can check his progress, and by then I should also have his blood work resuts back. She said once we get him up to weight we can work on changing his diet, and then we can improve his diet to begin working on the issue he might have with his liver. Guess we will know for sure about that next week. I will keep everyone updated on him as I know more, but so far we have had a better day

Just wanted to wish you a happy birthday today! I saw in a post somewhere that your birthday was 5 days away, and that was 5 days ago! I hope you have a wonderful day, and I hope Chickie gives you lots of birthday love!!

Barnaby and I had a rough day today, but I just read this and I can't even tell you how much it meant to read those words. Sometimes it is hard to see the forest for the trees, and this helped me come back to Earth a bit, take a breath, and put things in perspective. Thank you so much Morana, and everyone else that has been so supportive and understanding in this difficult time for Barnaby and I. Just think, a few months from now I will be posting vids of Barnaby doing the Cockatoo dance, and prancing around like he owns the place, and we will look back to how far this wonderful bird has come.

Ray, I couldn't agree more. Thank you to everyone that made this new room happen, I feel that it will be extremely useful in so many different ways... for learning, for venting, for laughing. The possibilities are endless, just like with our wonderful rehomed friends.

Thank you so much, JeffNOK.

Hey Wingy, I read through this post and thought I might be able to at least help you with the misting of your baby, as I know it can be hard on the hands. I saw people mentioned the misters that you have to pump, but I might know something that you can use that would be even easier on you. I used to own and breed exotic reptiles. I had several pairs of Panther Chameleons, and they are very high maintenance, and must be misted at least 4 times a day, for a minimum of 10 minutes per misting session. I am sure you can understand how tiring on the hand that can be. I bought a motorized mister, and it was WONDERFUL! It is a hand held misting bottle, it takes 2 AA batteries, and mists by itself when you hold down the trigger. You can adjust the mist settings, and there is no pumping involved. I have attached a link to the site I got mine from. Hope it helps http://www.bigappleherp.com/Zoo-Med-Moto-Mister-Motorized-Handheld-Mister

I am so glad I read this thread! I have a cage that looks very similar to yours, and was planning on using it next month for a baby CAG until I find a new one that I want. I will be sure to watch him very carefully, or hurry up my cage buying process. Thank you so much for the warning, I will be checking my cage tonight.
