  1. HAHAHAHA! This thread has me cracking up!!! Penny, you do have a good point. I will be telling hubby it must be a new house, central air is not negotiable, and we will not be farming anything at all. It sucks that your ex didn't care about how you and the kids felt when all of this was going on, or at least that is how it sounds. I was with a guy like that for 8 years, thank God I never married him... my husband is a wonderful man. He takes such good care of his family, and I pity anyone that would ever even think of hurting me or our kids...wouldn't be pretty LOL. He does work a lot...60+ hours a week, but crams it into 5 days a week to have time to spend with us, and when we are both home together we work as a team. You are awesome though Penny because you took control and improved your life, and the lives of your children. You sound like a good mama
  2. I use some plastic bags to bag my groceries when I buy them. I think they are absolutely PERFECT for my bathroom trashcans, therefore they get recycled
  3. Thank you so much everyone! He just gets better and better everyday. Last night while I was giving my one year old a bath, my husband was on the couch watching something on tv. Barnaby came down off his cage, walked across the room, and climbed up the couch to sit on my husband's leg. It was just awesome. That was the first time he had done it, and even though my hubby is not around as much, Barnaby felt comfortable with going to him. I was just all smiles.
  4. Pink doggie is adorable....fids reaction...PRICELESS!
  5. Trust me, I would loe to do that, but Barnaby is a seed junkie (not my doing) and as of now, will not eat pellets. He does like to display anting behavior with his roudybush pellets though. I am trying to find something he would like for a treat. Oddly enough, he doesn't even like sunflower seeds, only the smaller seeds in his seed mix.
  6. Thanks guys He is definitely getting really big. Can't wait to have him home! Thanks Life Is Greyt... being sick sucks. Hopefully I will be back to being myself soon!
  7. I agree, he looks very healthy, and very happy. Some Grey's are just on the small side, and I consider any info given online to be just a general guideline on height and weight. Coming in slightly under or over this guideline is perfectly okay.
  8. I think Talon explained that perfectly. Some of us may, or may not agree with clipping, and the many other choices that make up our responsibilities as parrot owners. But when it all comes down to it, I think we are all on the same page as far as loving our birds, and wanting what is best for them, whatever our opinion of that is. We, as people must make our own choices in how we will care for our animals, and no one knows your bird as well as you do. Every bird, and what works for them, is as different as as what works best for different humans. Make the choice that you feel makes the most sense for you, and your flock. There is no sense whatsoever in arguing with one another about clipping, not clipping, or whatever else...and honestly it is not our place to tell someone what choices to make on these subjects. HOWEVER, it is our place to give them solid research, positive AND negative points on the subject, and various information to allow them to make an informed decision for themselves. That said, I second you being a wonderful parront to your birds, and so highly responsible that I am incredibly impressed. Keep up the good work!
  9. Where are you getting your peanuts? Are they for human consumption? Have you tried any other treat, like millet? That is a big hit in my house. Also, I agree with Shelly, it sounds to me like he is trying to see where your relationship stands. Just stay calm when he does this. If it were me, I would try and offer my hand for a step up, with my other hand holding the treat behind that one (where he can see it). Give him a chance to step up when you give the command, he may just do so because he wants the treat you have. Don't rush him into it, it may take several (maybe more) attempts. He will probably be apprehensive at first, but eventually he may surprise you.
  10. Loved this video. Cracks me up when they hang upside down like that and play. Thanks for sharing.
  11. Hahahaha! So true. We had decided a long time ago to just have the weirdest things we could find... I would love a tower of used tires. The possibilities are endless! LOL Speaking of pink flamingos...I watched Gnomeo and Juliet with my kids awhile back... I love the pink flamingo, and cried so hard when he lost his flamingo wife....every time I see a flamingo I think of him LOL
  12. A friend of mine emailed this to me awhile back. She was my babysitter when I was a kid, and we are still very close. I find this to be very true, and it really makes me sad to see what we have done to this beautiful planet. I try to do my part to help, and I hope one day it will make a difference. I really worry about what kind of world my kids, and grandchildren will live in some day.
  13. I loved this poem. It brought a tear to my as well....makes me want to give all of my birds a hug.
  14. Hey everyone! I haven't been online much in the last couple days, I have not been feeling too well. I did get an update on Grimm today though, and wanted to share with you all. He is now in his toddler cage, has learned to step up, and took his first flight this weekend! Such a wonderful thing. He is eating very well. Still on 4 feedings a day, but his crop is no longer empty between these feedings, so he will more than likely cut back a bit soon. He seems to really like swings, so I will be ordering him a few for when he comes home. He also loves to put his beak in his water dish and splash around! From what I understand, he doesn't stay still for long! He is now 10 weeks old, and is getting so incredibly big. He has grown so quickly before my eyes, and I know it will be well worth the wait when he gets home. Here are a few pics of Grimm at 10 weeks. Enjoy!
  15. I will just say I definitely enjoyed your video. Thank you very much for sharing. Also, they are very cute when they are out shopping with you. I take my birds shopping at the petstore too!
  16. I want to make sure my family is taken care of if I pass before I should I want to make sure my husband and kids know how much I loved them I want to visit Madagascar I want to own a farm house with my husband, and have horses, chickens, a llama, cats, dogs, and my birdies. Also want to have a "collection" of oddities in the yard, such as random hubcaps, and windmills ect made out of coke cans LOL There are others, but this is it for now. Most of all I just want to spend as much time with my family as I can...nothing in life is more important than that.
  17. Love the woman playing the cello. I played the cello for 11 years. Thank you for sharing this with us, you are highly talented.
  18. You got some really nice stuff Penny, and I hope you had a great time there. Now if only the fids would be a little more accepting of your gifts
  19. I have a Sun Conure named Charlie. She does not scream all the time, but has a fit if she sees the vaccum cleaner...seriously. She has A LOT of toys in her cage, and plenty to keep her busy. Some conures are more vocal than others, but I don't recommend them for apartment living either. What is you jenday's cage like? Have you changed anything? How long has he been screaming like this? I just reread your post. It says you cover the cage to stop him from screaming, so it means he is already in the cage. Have you been letting him out enough?
  20. Loved the second vid too! It was so cute how they interacted with one another.
  21. Here is a great video on clicker training! I enjoyed this. I like the target training, and I think it would be great to give it a try. http://youtu.be/qkI9PvOsjS0
  22. I have actually been doing a lot more research on this, and clicker training is VERY popular for bird owners. It is used A LOT for recall, but also for target training, and trick training. I definitely think Barnaby will be perfectly capable of it, and I also think that if he decides he is not interested, then that is fine as well. I am going to go ahead with it. There are A LOT of clicker training vids with parrots on youtube. I think I have almost watched them all! LOL
  23. Thank you for the link, I will be checking it out
  24. I really hope you do, and you will be glad you did once you make these changes...your grey will be healthier, happier, and will thank you for it.
