  1. My knee pain is gone. Fit as a fiddle! It made me truly appreciate people that go thru pain on a daily basis! How awful! I always appreciated back pain, but when I got knee pain? truly sucked... Im pain free once again... but will never take for granted again... being pain free Nancy
  2. Thanks all for the support! Ollie is doing well eating like crazy, and Sophie is happy to have her best friend back. Not only are our greys our best friends, they know when sickness is a threat. Ollie would not have survived surgery two weeks later as scheduled if not for Sophie. She let me know Ollies health was utmost important and I needed to move his surgery up.I did. Now she is treating him like usual, and that is good! Nancy
  3. Its an affectionate thing! Just be careful that Spy doesn't get to pick just you and bond. They will do that! They try to pick one owner and bond with that person. If you do it right... find one important talent that each family member has, and expose your bird to that. Sophie loved Sean for the violin, loved Ryan for his guitar and singing, loved me for the rules and feeding. In the end.... Sophie goes to all of us. My dog , Sophie's best friend had dental surgery. I hired someone that has cared for Sophie when I was on vacation to come in and check on Ollie. Sophie had one claw on me, one claw on the sitter. Thats how she likes to be when watching a movie with the boys. She doesn't have to choose! Kisses for the sitter, while one claw on me. Nancy
  4. Sophie has always been a snuggler and a serious regurg girl any time of the day. She loves her neck rubbed and loves to plant her beak under my left eye. Of course only once I trusted her, did I let her do this. She has been for more than a decade, doing this behavior. I still have my left eye! LOL Nancy
  5. Awwww.. start a collection book. Most of us do Nancy
  6. Ollie is doing well after getting many teeth removed. It was a tough recovery. I never thought it could be so hard to get liquid antibiotics and pain meds into a dog. Even Sophie watched and supervised kept yelling OLLIE! ( I am sure she was just repeating me, but I appreciated her support!) He is now eating his homemade stew, and I know Sophie is loving it too! Nancy
  7. So glad you feel better! My knee was killing me a few weeks ago. It truly was killing me for a few weeks. The pain is now gone, but it made me appreciate what people feel with arthritis, or chronic inflammation. Nancy
  8. Would have to review videos. Some shake their heads, some don't. Sophie shakes her head all the time! Nancy
  9. I am in Rochester NY Canada isn't that far away! How far away are you from Rochester? I have decided that since Ollie is only eleven years old... playful, and full of fire, I am going to instruct them to put in a G-tube for feedings after his dental surgery if needed.I am more than willing to help you after I get thru Ollies dental surgery. Nancy
  10. She LOVES Ryan. The problem is... Sophie has been " over socialized", with other pets and humans. Its only Ollie and Sophie left. If.... I lose Ollie, I have no plans for another dog. I don't want to out live them. I am gone sometimes 14 hours at work. Sophie would never tolerate that " alone time". Ryans dog Callie has already been socialized with Sophie and they get a long great! It would be the BEST scenario for Sophie. It would be extremely hard for me.... but it is what is best for Sophie's needs. Ryan understands the sacrifice for me. One of the hardest things I have ever done. Its not about me. We have been texting at least twice a day. Ollie's dental surgery Tuesday, and we will see. Nancy
  11. I have moved up Ollies dental surgery to next Tuesday. He is seriously not eating! He remains happy and active, but is only taking in less then 700 calories a day. Ryan is ready to come and get Sophie, so that I can focus on Ollie. I havent decided to have Ryan come for Sophie. I want what is best for her, but not sure Ryes enviroment is best. I am not liking my choices Nancy
  12. I would be there in a heart beat too! Where do you live? Lets see if any of us are in your area. I have had two back surgeries that have been successful, but I remember what back pain is!Last week, my knee was killing me.... have never had knee pain in my life. Thought it was arthritis hitting me fast and hard, but thankfully it was a knee sprain. Next doctor visit, ask to see a social worker. They are very helpful. In the mean time, we all would love to help Nancy
  13. Isnt it amazing... how just letting that trust develop can create a relationship that is forever? Nancy
  14. I'M COMING PEPPER...Sophie agrees you are mistreated, and feels the same abuse! She has convinced me to come rescue you! Then I can take a quick detour, drive you BOTH to military school! LOL Nancy
  15. I havent been on this site in a few weeks, as my dog has been ill, and my focus has been on him. In the event of his death, my kids know, Sophie needs a social enviroment. Ryan has decided to take her. We have discussed this past few weeks if I can't save Ollie. I am doing all I can to get him healthy again. I would NEVER euthanize Sophie. She has soooo much to offer! I like the idea of members adopting birds from members that can no longer care, or death Nancy
  16. Sophie has two clicks. One... excited to see me... the other, disapproval. I know her clicks, and you will learn too once the trust is there. Try opening the cage door and let your bird come on the door. Don't try to pick up, but just sit in front of cage talking about your day. We are big book readers and Sophie is now too! We would read to her in front of her cage with door opened. Dr. Seuss and Shel Silverstein were her favorites and are so today 15 years later..We read to her at the same time every night. She got into our routine. I NEVER put my hand in her cage, as they are very protective of their home. Of course now I can put my hand in her cage and she jumps on, but it takes patience and trust Nancy
  17. Ollie is doing well. I went to new mac a chez restarant... he inhaled the small portion I gave him. I am no longer worried! Nancy
  18. Sophie does do that when she doesnt want to go back to her cage. She is pretty slick with that maneuver Nancy
  19. Good news! I think. No diabetes, kidney or renal failure! White blood cell elevated. The one elevated is a sign of inflammation. Suspect gastritis. Starting prilosec. No guarantee he doesn't have cancer. I need to fatten him up, so if anyone has fattening recipes, I would appreciate it. He needs two teeth pulled, but I don't want to do it until he gains back his weight. She doesn't think that is what caused his nausea and vomiting.
  20. We look foward to your video! Nancy
  21. went to the vet today. Ollie had eaten, pooped and peed quite well today.Almost cancelled the appointment, but still was concerned over the weight loss. Down 1.5 pounds which is alot for a 10 pound dog. Met a woman whom had just adopted an African Grey. Ollie wanted to play with him! The owner was shocked that a dog would love a bird! They drew bloodwork, suspect possibly diabetes, which I could live with. I will get more answers tomorrow. They will call me with the results.Everyone please say a prayer for Ollie please! Nancy
  22. I am back to being concerned. Woke up Sunday, Ollie vomited everywhere and wouldn't eat all day. Spent the entire day with him next to me. Once in awhile, he would jump down and stand in place. He was falling asleep standing up, shivering, and tipping over, but would correct himself. NOT normal! He did drink. Monday I made the dreaded vet appointment, leaving work at two on Tuesday. He ate some today and kept it down, drinking ok, and urinating. Mentally....lethargic, but able to carry out physically quite well. ( outside to pee). Not seeing him poop. Sophie is VERY concerned, and she always knows when something is wrong! I just lost Zoey a few years ago... not ready to lose Ollie too Nancy
  23. Sorry things didn't go well for you! Nancy
  24. You just have to stick to your guns.... and you will have a grey that goes to bed on time...no complaints. Nancy
