  1. Sophie here. You guys have NO IDEA what I have gone thru past few weeks! First... I couldn't fly every where and any where! New dog in the house, and Rom was very strict on my flying every where. " safety", she calls it! Thank God for Sean, opening his bedroom for me to hide out! Sophie
  2. GC180 WE are, better than that as a whole,in protecting animal life. I believe in that Nancy
  3. Muse said it best! Redirection! I can say " shhhh". and my birds settle down.I dont overuse my redirection, but when I say shhhh they stop.It is a very important form of communication, and they know shhhh means stop.nancy
  4. What a cutie! She will be a talker! Just wait until she gets past imitation, and associates words with meaning ( more around three to four). Good luck with that! It really is amazing. Nancy
  5. So many know, I was concerned that Sophie would revert back to just loving Ryan when he came home for Christmas. Sean has worked hard to repair her favorite gym, building her favorite toys, plays with her all the time! I was concerned that Sophie would " blow off" sean, in favor of Ryan. I was pleasantly surprised, that Sophie was THRILLED to have Ryan home... met him with kisses... but had only eyes for Sean. When we watched a movie... she would give Ryan hugs and kisses, but then went to Sean for serious snuggles. Sean " down played it", but I know it was very important to him.Ryan commented on it " Sophie REALLY loves you!" I am sooo happy that Sophie has committed to the one that puts the most energy into her Nancy
  6. When we had an electrical fire years ago, it was just me and Ryan. We practiced for three. We got the dogs to the car, then focused on the birds.Being the " bad guy", making the rules and expecting everyone to follow them, DOES have benefits! I told all my birds that were on gyms " IN NOW!" Meaning their cages. They did. Dragged their cages with Ryans help out the front door. Nancy
  7. Ryan encouraged me to get a rescue or new pup. He knows I do well with multi animals. Sean encouraged me to get thru Christmas, make Sophie safe...I am following Seans suggestion. No plan for a new pup. When Sean was home for just a day, she was on his shoulder, the moment he walked in the door. He is always patient with her, and listens to her rant of excitement! Nancy
  8. Sophie would " sell her soul for cheese"... as kids coming home, and are telling me they need meat and cheese... I am delivering! Sophie is going to be very happy and give a cluck of approval! I completely understand how JeffNOK associates " words", with their true meaning. We have done this forever! Its no longer even a second thought! I was very amused though, when Sophie focused this year, on Sean and I greeting each other WAY too early. We say " morning!". Sophie started to say it ( as a greeting), morning evening and night! Sean pointed out, sophie is NOT understanding the greeting at the correct time. I told him to " let it go"... let her greet us with " morning", day evening or night! She does. Her new favorite word. Nancy
  9. I truly understand! Terriers, are a pain in the ass! Everyone has asthma though, so we need a non shedding dog. Ryans dog coming home. A rescue pitt/lab... I am already loading up on zyrtec. Sean and I are allergic to Kallie, but she is sooo amazing. When I get up at 5am... I take her for a walk with Ollie, feed her. She is so happy! Ollie likes her too.I am use to high maintance dogs and she is so easy going! Nancy
  10. Sophie would probably LOVE learning Spanish! It is an amazing language. I wish I paid more attention to the four years I did in high school. English is slow and boring, Spanish is fast paced and with emotion! Nancy
  11. Ray, how about getting involved with transporting rescue birds? I've been thinking about it. I was getting excited to think of getting a new pup. Ryan said DO it! Sean, reminded me of reality. He reminded me of my own rules. NEVER, open the door to your heart, unless you can commit to the animal 100% Thru the good and bad, there is no going back. Always have a network of friends, family and vets that can help you when needed. If you can't be there every four hours, or have someone else there to let the pup out, why are you getting a pup? I DO have the resources that can help me every four hours during the day...I just need to make sure my heart is open, and ready for a new pup. Nancy
  12. Greywings... I was thinking the same! I know that is horrible to think this way. I contacted our local humane society, they will be encouraging charging animal cruelty. Nancy
  13. I am NOT going to let it go! A simple " slap on the wrist", is not acceptable... I will contact our police department tomorrow to get more info. This kid is a sociopath, needs to be punished to the full extent of the law. Nancy
  14. The honest problem is... Sophie! She has an " open cage concept", so she comes out the moment I am home. Ollie, as a pup, was trained by Max, " don't play with her, don't touch her, unless I say so!" Senior dog teaching Ollie. Ollie learned to respect Sophie. Now its Ollies turn to teach new pup ( with my help). I would LOVE a rescue, but they would be more inclined to want to just play, and hurt Sophie. I asked Ryan his opinion... he said I should get a new girl. I asked Sean, he said " no". I don't have the resources I need. ( I can hire someone to come every four hours). I haven't decided. It still comes down too, is my heart open to getting a new girl pup? Its been two years since I lost Zoey. Sophie will know in a heart beat, if i am not committed. If I have any hesitation... Sophie will NOT except new pup... she knows me that well Nancy
  15. I read in the paper today, how a juvenile went into a family's home, found a bb gun and shot their pets. A tinneh grey, two other birds, a Lizard. I can't express, how angry I am! I won't even tell you what I would do, if they were MY pets! I have been so upset all day. My co-workers knew of this, and hoped I didn't read the paper today. They knew how I would react. Can you imagine, if this was YOUR child that did this? Can you imagine the pain, this nine year old owner is going thru? I am HORRIFIED! These beautiful animals destroyed for no reason! I will be following this story closely in Webster, NY. A simple slap on the wrists, isn't going to cut it. Nancy
  16. Sophie HATES opera! My Amazon LOVED it! Kids play several instruments, I can only play the piano. Sophie just can't get enough of someone playing something. Luckily, the kids sound amazing now, but she thinks they are as good as yesterday...shows you, it was a bonding experience Nancy
  17. I would like to get a gun. My girlfriend would like to get one too. We are interested in target practicing together. Our kids are all not interested. I think we need to ignore them, not let them know. We are NOT the children... Nancy
  18. Its important to encourage both styles of JeffNOK and SterlingSL... Sophie has open cage, I wish, she had a tire to swing from.. I think she would have no problem... give her 24 hours. While Ryan and Sean are BOTH coming home in less then ten days... Sophie will be in overdrive. Her best friends will be home. Ryan will be playing the guitar, Sean will be playing hide and seek! Sophie will be talking non stop, and if she doesn't have the words, she will babble! Who could ask for anything more, than a Grey that has their entire family home and is thrilled! BEST Christmas ever! Nancy
  19. PERFECT imitation! Whats better, is your bird wants to please. Bonding! Nancy
  20. My friend, knows how hard it has been since I lost my girl Zoey. My heart has been closed for past two years. She has a friend that her shitzu will have pups soon. She knows I would be a GREAT parent, and I don't need to go thru a parental check, and can reserve a girl, if there is one. I just need to commit. Ryan, my son, says do it... Sean, reminds me, I want to decrease my responsibility! I am not sure what to do. I truly miss Zoey, and I know Ollie misses having a dog friend. Nancy
  21. So is the answer to get a gun? Get registered before they take away our gun rights? Read " One Second After", by William R. Forstchen.. it scared the crap out of me! Nancy
  22. LOL! Cheddar cheese sounds like a favorite! Something we can all use for a treat when training Nancy
  23. There is no guarantee to see a molt! I never saw Sophie go thru a molt. Kiki our Amazon did, and we were all on high alert, including Sophie. Nancy
  24. Sophie is obsessed with cheddar cheese. Her favorite. When i buy it, she insists we share, which we do. Nancy
  25. Sophie doesn't chew anything plastic. Wood, wood, wood. Mostly my windowsills. Plastic, is NOT good for chewing, but just my opinion. Nancy
