  1. We should all be happy when they use their " quiet voice". LOL! I can't say Sophie has ever whispered. nancy
  2. Geez... after thinking about it, I never got to name any of our birds! Sophie, came with her name ( I LOVE it!) Sean wanted to find a baby. When we went to the birdstore, he already had the name, just needed to find the bird to pick him. Sunny was a rescue, and he has all the colors of the sun. Ryan chose Sunny. ( beats icecream), his first name. Nancy
  3. Dorian is adorable! GREAT cage and setup by the way. I have the same! Nancy
  4. Jayd... thanks for acknowledging my issues,, All birds, need to fly,l Nancy
  5. I'm very strict with my birds. I tend not to respond. Nancy
  6. Kiki was not on the list! I'm sure, she is not offended. Nancy
  7. Noone, can get Sophie to shower! For years! My groomer cares for her. It was my deal with Sophie. I promised to never ask her to shower, as long as she agreed to let bird trimmer shower her, if needed! Nancy
  8. Sophie, would LOVE to run the numbers! BUT... she is also vain, and wants to be included in all plans for makeup! LOL! Nancy and Sophie
  9. Sophie has been regurging for years! She is 12 now. Many disagree with me, but I have always accepted her offering. Certainly, I don;t eat it, but I always acknowlege her offering. I thank her. Others disagree, and have other suggestions. It works for our family. You need to choose what works for you Nancy
  10. Wow! Such a hot topic! Definitely important. There is an alternative, which I have done, that works. New babies should get fully flighted, learn to fly and be praised. When they go thru terrible two's, they should be " TRIMMED". No such thing as " clipping'.n They are trimmed, but can fly with perfect accuracy to two rooms! Now, instead of arguing about trimming and clipping, everyone needs to find the perfect trimmer. Focus on that, as it is even more important than finding the perfect vet. My trimmer is very important to us. When Sophie was out of control, I told him. She was trimmed according to her stages in life. Once we got thru terrible two's etc, she is fully flighted. I haven't had issues with Sophie, forever! She flies quite well Nancy
  11. I wish I could help you, but can't! I don't have the expertise. If you DO get a bonded pair, please let us know how it goes. You can educate us all. As always, we will be there to support you. Nancy
  12. Believe me guys, it becomes an " art". Always ahead of the poops. Some , have birds that poop only in their cage area. I'm jealous! My birds don't do that, but try to " refrain". To maintain, my " open cage", I had to give somethings up. No curtains on the lower level was first to go. Family room only, for rug. Otherwise hardwood floors. Poop easy to clean on them. Having an open cage, doeswn't mean birds are out, flying everywhere, whenever they want! The moment I walk in the door, they either fly out, or waLK TO FIND ME. nANCY
  13. Wow! Sorry guys! I Live in NY, and storms don't really affect us, but listening to you all, I am sooo very sorry you have to worry. Take care, and if you need a place to stay, our door, is always open! Nancy and gang
  14. TWIX not sure if he is too thin. Only you know best by feeling him and weighing. I just LOVE the pictures! A very secure and trusting baby! Kudos to you for the bath. Sophie would be like from the Wizard of Oz.... I'm melting! I'm melting! I'm sure many grey owners know this feeling. Nancy
  15. Talon,I treat my birds as "free spirits!" their cage is never closed! Yes, I treat them as children, not a bad thing. I treat them as my children. They are! Yes, they are wild birds, but they are in our homes. How do we treat them? I treat them, as " part of my family, with behavior expectations". I ask them as the flock leader, to say" please, thank you!" I teach them manners, what is expected of them socially. I also teach them to accept " differences in opinion". I am sad, that while I have the " perfect" family, I have been soooo stressed, when Zoey had two seizures last week, and noone responded. Nancy
  16. Thank You! Yes, my cap lock was on! I suck at computers. I rarely do e-mails,. I'm not proud, just stink at computer. Nancy
  17. GREAT cage! Office cage, should be the same size as home cage. Your new babe has issues with trust. Quite normal, but you are offering trust, and baby is responding. Be consistent. Cage should be the same. Gym is the next step, but not needed now. I LOVE that your baby is offering trust, whether you know it or not, you are responding appropriately! Nancy
  18. We are all here to support you. We are NOT perfect either! Never, worry about posting here. Nancy
  19. After having many pups, guinea pigs, ( I had no interest, the rescue we got, was on his last home). He chose us ! Our first bird hated all humans.BUT... he met my son, and fell in love. How could I refuse? It was a good decision. Our sunconure we have had, bonded with Ryan when he was nine. Ryan is now 21. Sunny LOVES him, just like the day he met him. Nancy
  20. Greys LOVE to imitate! Its what they do best! If we can support them with their imitation, I believe it makes a bird to feel more secure. Whether it be grooming, providing them with their own hairbrush, or pretend makeup kit, I believe it is important to satisfy their needs. Sophie is more into " numbers". Her checkbook is very important to her. I believe she is going to be an accountant, when she grows up! Nancy
  21. I have always thanked my bird for their regurg offering. I now can accept it in my hand. I always praise and sincerely thank Sophie. She is always proud. As time goes on, she does it less and less. I believe it is important to a bird, for you to accept it. ( Certainly, not in your mouth), but this is an offering of love. She's been doing it for a decade. Nancy
  22. Greys are very posessive of their cages and gyms. Thats why stepup is sooo important. I always trained my birds away from their comfort zone. ( cage and gym) You've got to make it fun and exciting to go off with you. A tour of the house, going off to read a book that they can destroy! Anything they like and enjoy, to want to stepup. One of Sophie's favorites.... lining up all my spoons in the opening next to sink. She can throw them into sink. She LOVES it! ( she likes the sound they make). Such simple pleasures, makes such a HUGE difference. Always think " outside the box". I know they do! LOL Nancy
  23. JAYD... i AGREE! iT IS IMPORTANT FOR BIRDS TO SHOWER. nANCY
  24. Sorry all.... grabbing a birds beak, and gently saying a firm NO!, is NOT detrimental to their learning. I believe it is important to them learning! You are the parent, they are the bird! I did thisn with all of my birds! Nancy
