  1. I always think, birds stop talking, to think and learn. Gotta watch out for those birds! They are pretty smart. They are " absorbing information!" As far as whistling, I believe it is important to whistle back. It is part of their language, and is the first step before talking. This, in my opinion, is not detering them from talking, but is the " building blocks", to communication. Nancy
  2. Let us know! I went to a party Saturday night and asked all my friends to sign the petition. They knew it was important to me, since I don't do alot on the computer. They promised to help. Nancy
  3. Brendon... I am jealous! Sophie thinks she took a bath, if her chest and few flight feathers are wet. All other birds here LOVE showers. Maybe Sophie should come over to your house for a shower! LOL! Nancy
  4. Sarasota congrads! You are developing a wonderful relationship with your grey.I promise you, years down the road after all the work you do to develop the relationship, you will find your bird trusting and loving. When they get to that point ( alot of work as you are learning), it can only be described as " heavenly!" No biting... just wanting to spend time with you and be part of your life. Nancy
  5. Sophie and Sunny trim their own nails and beaks. We have lots of different perches, cement and sand. Kiki, our Amazon, will trim and clean her feathers, but insists on her nails and beak trimmed by our " trimmer." Next week is her appointment. Nancy
  6. murfchck... Wow! You really are an artist! You and Kiki should go into business together! She is into the same art! Sophie
  7. Zulu, I suspect, will do just fine! He;s already talking, and hasn't even met the rest of the flock! Nancy
  8. katana600.. We are all here whenever you need us. I was happy to hear Java bit off the end of the syringe! ( I know she needs the med). It just means she has the strength to fight, when she normally would. A good sign! Nancy
  9. I'm not sure when they stop with the robatic voice! As you all know, Sophie was two when she came here. I don't remember her talking robatic. I only remember her talking like me! Not necessary a good thing... as she talks like a " valley girl" from California. I always would say to kids... " why does she talk like that?" They would give each other a certain look!( I get it! I talk that way!) Sophie can also imitate Ryan and Sean too perfection. When I yell.. " dinner".. I can't tell if they are responding, or if it is Sophie. Nancy
  10. I LOVE hearing stories about Misty. What a cutie! I am happy you have a morning ritual as Sophie and I do too. I have to get up extra early to do our snuggling, but it is worth it. We are both half asleep, but it is important to both of us to spend time alone. Nancy
  11. Some babies talk sooner than others in my opinion. Sophie was two when we adopted her, didn't talk alot... BUT she came from a very rich parent, who treated her like royalty. I know he did the ultimate sacrifice since he knew he was too busy to care for her. Within six months her vocabulary was amazing! Even though he was too busy for her, she was a very happy and secure bird, so I thank him for that. Nancy
  12. How funny! This made me laugh soooo hard! When Kiki our Amazon say's " UH..Oh" we know something is broken. Nancy
  13. zandische... excellent job! Patience does always payoff. Too bad, we're on their time schedule! LOL Nancy Cheshire Cat... they can be VERY jealous! Life for a Grey is always about "me!" Nancy
  14. Good luck! I have a great groomer, that they have known forever. He trimmed their feathers, when they were young, and learning, he continues to trim their beaks and nails years later, when they are now fully flighted. Nancy
  15. The fact that she is acting normal is a great sign! Of course, the trauma nurse in me starts thinking! Seizures is a posibility, as well as low blood sugar. Nancy
  16. I don't think your bird suffered from a " traumatic clipping". Feathers need to grow in. They will. Just make sure feathers are even on both sides. Nancy
  17. Thats okay! I am severely computer illiterate, but I figured it out! I'm sure my friends and kids who are very " savy" on the computer, will figure it out. Nancy
  18. I hope everyone on this site, can respond, and encourage their friends. Misstyparrot... lets get to it! We need to get 5000 responses.Birdhouse...can you send me an exact link? First one didn't work for me. Second one did, but it would be easier to get responses, for a link that worked right away. Steve and I are more than happy to help you. I'm sure, others here, will help as well. Who... is willing to commit? Nancy
  19. WHAT the heck? Why is everyone at this place called " work"? WE don't go to work... they should be here to take care of us! Rom says she is making " money!" I don't know a thing about money, but I don't like money! It takes my Rom away. I like that Rom snuggles me in the morning though, and promises me to snuggle when she gets home from work. I always remember that she say's this. She ALWAYS snuggles with me when she walks in the door. I LOVE my Rom. Sophie
  20. Sophie, my grey also can fly, but walks half the time! She is always under my feet. I can't even go to the bathroom on the lower half of the house, without her. We are all use to her being under our feet. We have been trained by her. LOL! Everyone in our family knows... " tread lightly!" It becomes natural for us, to walk carefully, as Sophie is going to be there. Nancy
  21. I hate getting up at 5am also! I don't do it often, but birds let me know, they are not interested! Sophie will snuggle, but she also whispers! Noone wants to eat. Kids are called to feed the birds. Nancy
  22. Sassy... sorry! LOL! Nancy
  23. kimijean... thinking of you and xandir! Nancy
  24. Filterho Thank you! I have already used an air filter for many years... saw no change in their respiratory status. The Plants... I will give it a try. Both boys, have " respiratory infection induced asthma". On the third day of a cold, they will either wheeze, or not. I am always ready to do battle! They will have to start steroids or not. I have their asthma well controlled, so steroids have been very limited for several years. As teenagers though, they tend NOT to tell me they are really wheezing, until they are a " mess!" It trully annoys me, as they have been educated. Nancy
  25. katana600... I am so sorry about Java! I can totally understand, as I have been struggling with Zoey's health. They are our babies. Any decision made what caused this? My thoughts and prayers are with you. Nancy
