  1. GT, that is what I have planned, a sleep and travel cage. It will be small enough to fit in the car, carry outside for fresh air and sun light. So I don't think of it as a waste of money to use only for one year. Then if I decide to get another Grey later on, or even a smaller breed I have the cage. I will only know when the time comes.
  2. I have been told by several breeders, that grey's can become very insecure the first year if they have a large cage. After their first year, you can go as big as you like. I was told nothing any wider than 26in wide. This can also bring on behavior problems. I will post the link to the one I am getting for the first year. I already have one for it later on that is big enough for a large Macaw. I know that a lot of people will disagree with what I have just stated, but the people that I have gotten this info have spent their lives and careers dedicated to birds and other animals. I have heard it from more than 10 so I tend to believe its true. http://www.petco.com/product/12866/Avian-Adventures-Protege-Bird-Cage-And-Stand.aspx?CoreCat=LN_BirdSupplies_CagesStands
  3. Does this contest have to be zons only or any birdie?
  4. Ray, I agree, I can't wait to get away from all the city noise. The worse is the rude neighbors that crank up the stereo in the middle of the night, a train whose driver is horn happy at 3am like clock work. Then the cops that run through the yard shooting. I am getting out of the city life as soon as school is out.
  5. I live in the city, and people are always looking in the window, for God's sake people its a bird. I feel as if I need to sit outside and charge admission for looking at my birdies.
  6. LoL the dog did it I swear, I told him not to do that.
  7. have you tried Marc Marron's He is in NY. He is a great person to, and knows about all pets. Parrotsoftheworld.com
  8. My breeder sent me an email, to let me know that Valentine's DNA test results were in and that I am proud to say that my baby CAG is a little girl. This information, came just in time, as Rocco's aches arrived today. To know that my large baby, was put in a very tiny box ripped me to shreds.
  9. This sounds as if your birdie just wants to cuddle, and to be drawn close to you. Try letting it step on a finger, and see if she will stay there. Sounds as if she might be just a little scared. If it is routine that she uses her beak to step up, maybe try a glove, but that should not hurt at all. Maybe you are holding it to high. Hard to say without seeing. If it is a baby, you have to teach it to be gentle. It will all come in time. If she gets your finger, and the pressure is to much, just push down the lower beak to get your finger back. Don't pull back or get loud, this will reform habit, for they just love drama. For your question, It really depends on the size of the bird and the bird itself to what I offer. I only have Macaws for now, one I pick up with a closed fist, and offer my lower arm. He is bad to bit, my other one he can step up on my arm or hand. I am sure you will get more answers that will help you more.
  10. I am so glad the little fella has it all under control. It is so scary when they hurt themselves. My B/G crashes all the time, and never fells to hit the table on the way down. But so far, Knock on wood he is fine. It scares me to hear the thump. Oh baby I know that hurts.
  11. Prince has given me a huge workout this weekend. The little BRAT!!!! His cage has a breeder door, and he showed me he can open it and be out in no time flat. I get up put him back in his cage, and before I could get the cage latched he was out again. So I decided to get some cardboard and cut it to where he couldn't get to it or the flap that lets you open it. He worked and worked, and about 30 minutes late guess who has made his way upstairs? Well, I said what are you doing? He laughs an evil sounding laugh, much like the one my son does. I had never heard it from Prince. I take him back down, and put the cardboard back arrange his toys to where he can't get to the door very easy. I said I give you an hour, and you will be back out. I sat down on the couch, and I can see him working away getting mad at his toys for they are in the way. He goes over to his food dish, pushes that flap, and out he comes. Prince is a little smarty pants. I soon notice that my vertical blinds need to take a trip out to the curb. So I put him on his play stand and put Roy on his. Take the cages outside for a good pressure washing. I put Prince in Roy's cage and.... Prince is looking at me as to say, Mom this isn't my home. Roy said I like this I get the window seat and don't worry mom, I won't escape, that will be too much work for me.
  12. For one, I think mother nature is bi-polar, specially when it comes to this weather. Prince has been a brat the last couple of days. He has learned he can get out of the breeder door, faster then I can shut the cage door, then when I came up with a solution to that he came out the food dish side. He got out and figured a way to eat my vertical blinds in no time. So I power washed my cages today, and now Prince and Roy have traded cages. Roy's old cage, has locks on everything, not just the flaps. Roy has no interest in trying to break free, it is just too much work for him. I have to say, Prince sure has been busy and kept me busy all weekend. He is totally a brat, but you know I just gotta love him.
  13. I am glad to hear the good reviews, I plan on taking my little boy. As for why they call him blue, is probably just the color for little kids.
  14. Maybe a sun conure or quaker? Love bird?
  15. I too love the sun room, and want to welcome you. Like you I have my cages in the window, but as we had a bad storm and I was wondering if the cages could be struck by lightening. It worried me so bad, that I got the birds out of their cage and put them on their play stands in the center of another room. I couldn't bare to loose another pet or member of the family right now.
  16. She wanted to taste one really bad. LOL
  17. about the safest thing you can do is put down some baking soda and let it sit for an hour and vacuum it up.
  18. You all are the sweetest people I feel as if I know everyone who has posted. Imagine the people you have never met, and chances are that you never will, can be there when you need them the most. I thank everyone of you so much. It really means a lot to know that some people actually care. I am hurt and sick, He died a slow painfully way. There is no cause for what has happened. In this situation the cop was to use the least amount of force. I am sorry to say 2 shots is not the lease amount of force. He never touch the cop or burglar. I am just now getting myself back together from all this. Its not the same, I still get up every day to go feed him, and catch myself with a plate of left over food, that he would enjoy. My son still says bye Rocco, as he gets on the school bus. My son is to scared to sleep a lone. He gets in the fetal position and screams when he hears a siren or loud noise. I have to move now, just too many memories. and in this town an animal is considered property, I am sorry, my car is property, it don't love me or wag its tail when it sees me. I do have a lawyer, but he says I will be lucky if it's not thrown out of court. So wish me luck as i take on the police.
  19. I vote for Talon's birdie Quote: "Yup, that's it, "Don't forget this side"
  20. I have the same cage for Valentine for whenever he comes home as luvparrots.
  21. birdnut, this is just a stereo type. I am learning more and more. This cop just wanted to shoot. The dog didn't attack, and was over 2ft away from the cop when he was shot. No torn clothes, no blood, except for the dogs.
  22. When I talk to my Roy and Prince, I am guilty as you are. I tell them they are a big boy, and pretty bird, good boy. So do they question that ok Mom am I a bird or boy?
  23. I agree that the breed was the major if not the only reason he was shot. He was the biggest baby you would ever meet. He didn't know how to be mean. I am lost for words at this point. The officers sergeant came by today and offered me another dog, I declined. I have a lawyer now, because he was wrong to shoot or even pull a gun in a housing development and the criminal was unarmed. He was suppose to have used a stun gun in this situation. He clams he was attacked by my dog, but no torn clothes, no blood, no teeth marks. He jumped on the officer and the criminal for attention. Thank you all so much, but I just had to share this awful story. My little hasn't stopped crying and asking about Rocco, so for those who pray keep my little boy in your prayers. He is scared of police now, because we saw him shoot him, but a second too late. Thank you all so much once again.
