  1. I had a doberman, for nearly 7 years. I got him from a baby and he was part of the family. While watching tv with my son, I heard barking, then someone running through my yard. I got up and went to the door, as I turned the knob I heard 2 shots. I opened the door and an officer was running out of my gate. Saw my doggie struggle to get into his dog house and blood everywhere. The office thought he was getting attacked, the dog only jumped on him for he never met a stranger. He wasn't mean in the least. Austin keeps crying for Rocco for we all loved him. The dog suffered and you could hear his pain. I will never get that sound out of my head. He was in our yard, and on a trolly to follow the city law. I feel he had no right, but the officer claims self defense.
  2. Those were just beautiful pictures. Thanks for sharing
  3. Welcome and congrats. Just take it slow, do it on his terms. Don't rush, give treats when you pass by the cage. Sit near him and talk, sing or read, share little bites of your food.. Sounds like you are off to a good start, but patient is the whole key. Good luck, post pictures and keep us posted on the updates. I know you can guess at the age by the color of the eyes, but I am new to the greys myself and waiting for my baby to be winged.
  4. Oh wow I love it. Looks a lot better blown up
  5. God what a heart wrenching story, I feel your pain, and I lost a concure a few years ago. You lost your baby Grey, on my birthday March 29. So I will never forget your story. Maybe you will be able to one day bring yourself to get another birdie. Good luck and best wishes to all of you. Such as hard way for your 9 year old to learn about death. I am so sorry. Thank you for sharing, and maybe it will help you cope.
  6. Thank you, I was wondering when they went out, then they should be here this week.
  7. hold a treat in your hand and call for the bird by name, a sunflower seed works great.
  8. I am so sorry for your loss, I just can't imagine
  9. My birdies were outside in their cages this weekend, and they loved it. My prince was chatting up a storm. He would say Hi and Hello to everything that moved, and Roy said How are ya, and it was so cute, not to mention, my floor were clean for more than 5 seconds with them outside.
  10. I ordered a bunch, and can't wait until they arrive
  11. wow I am loving these photos. I just love a wet birdie
  12. Inky, A bird is going to go the highest point possible. It does NOT matter if your short or tall or even in a wheel chair. I have not seen a bird yet that won't at least try to get to my shoulder, it is just a bird thing. You don't have to put the perches up so high that you can't comfortably reach them, but if they are high and you go to the cage to get the bird out, it will come to you as you open the cage door. Birds adjust to you, just as you adjust to the bird. Some takes longer than others, but since you are getting one from a baby, it should be easy. Birds are smart little critters, it will recognize your handicap and understand. I really think, that you are worried to much about your disables, just remember if there is a will, there is a way. Yes, pet shops suck, they have no attachment to the pets, just a dollar sign.
  13. I love it, now how did you do that?
  14. also know that spray deodorant and hair spray and perfume are not healthy for our birds either.
  15. That was pretty cool, thanks for sharing.
  16. This is great, I believe he might just be able to read, I have know of some identifying letters and numbers, and some can do simple math. So why not? Who knows Marcus may become famous to others more than just here on the forum.
  17. I lucked out, I got an used cage, and play stand all in pretty good condition for $100.00. A cage for that much seems a little high to me. I go my macaws cages for $300 each, and they are huge and made very well. If you shop around you should be able to get a grey at least some what cheaper. Good luck
  18. My vet told me that with that they will be healthy, and with that not to worry if he wouldn't eat his veggies.
  19. You are so lucky. One of my Macaws don't mind it, but the other one will scream and scream I have to cover him up when its time to vacuum the bird room's rug. I got to where it was easier to pull the rug up and take it outside and shake it really good and just sweep and mop. I have been so tempted to not even put the rug back down.
  20. I will simmer apples and Cinnamon or popuri on the stove. Store bought sprays have chemicals, and will shorten the birds life.
  21. It is all natural and it is what I give my Macaws
  22. He is certainly is a handsome fellow. Congrats on the rehome.
  23. what kind of glue is used on the pvc pipe that is ok for the birdies? I don't have greys but my macaws just love the one they have.
