How many colors does your zon have in it`s feathers ? This is just a question so take a look at your zon. Cricket has many shades of the same color or colors so do you think that counts ? I can look at her for hours and always see something new that I never saw before. When she is wet she takes on a new look with her colors. O.K. I know you think I`m nuts but 2 1/2 years ago with her past I would have never thought we would have this bond with each other that we have and with my family too.

Poncho sounds great and the fact that you have had him only 5 days and he is interacting with you is also great. Cricket will swing her head around like Stevie Wonder when we come to her cage. 2 1/2 years ago I was afraid of zons and now I love them to death. Cricket changed that for me.

Happy hatch day Beau and may you have many many more. You bring your mommy much joy.

I spent 900.00 bucks for corky but by the time picked her up 5 weeks later I had over 2000.00 with a good cage toys and food and that is just a start. I have never felt bad about one single penny that I have spent on my birds because they have given back more than I have ever spent.

Somebody bought the poor grey on a whim and than she was too much trouble to keep so they got rid of her never knowing what they had.

Great vidio Of Cocoa in the car. Our congo grey Corky and our Blue front zon Cricket both love to ride in the car. When we travel in the motor home they both love to ride up front on the very large dash board and walk around as I drive. We some times get some strange looks. They both seam to enjoy watching the traffic.

It`s only been a week and she just needs time to adjust. Sit by her cage and talk to her read to her sing to her (I can`t carry a tune in a basket but I try) When she is out and she steps up give her a treat or do something to show her your happy with her step up. It just takes a little time and when she is ready she will come out of her shell.

Some members use sleep cages and some don`t and some members have a bird room. We do not use a sleep cage and at nite we just cover them at bedtime. They are in the main part of the house whear we spend 90% of our time. It`s up to you if you want a sleep cage we never felt a need for one and we like being close to our birds.

Is stainless steel worth it? Lets look over the reasons...
Ray P replied to kingsnake's topic in Cages & Homes
What ever you buy may depend on how large a cage you need and how much money you have to spend and what size will fit in the space you have at that time. All so years down the road you may want a larger cage because you moved to a larger home or may be a smaller home. We have owned three homes and each one larger than the last so we have done cage up grades as we had more room for the birds. I have herd of some people that did not like stainless because it stuck out like a big silver sore thumb in there home. Not that it was a bad cage. It`s up to you if you have the extra money to buy stainless or if you want colore go with the other. -
That is just one of many moments you will always remember.

My wife and I wanted a grey after having cockatiels for many many many years and when ever we had a chance to see one we would stop and look at them at many pet stors and when I say many I mean 30 or more.We looked at greys for over a year and one day we stoped at a small pet stor that we delt with for years for our cockatiel food and toys and we got birds there befor. They had 4 or 5 baby cag at that time so we stoped to look. This one babybgrey looked at the wife run over up her arm to here shoulder and took a big poop. We also left a deposit. At that time Corky was 9 weeks old.

Judy has given you some good advice, give him a chance to settle in to his new home and get to know you. Sit by his cage and talk to him/her and offer treats when ever you go by his/her cage so it knows when you come around some thing good happens. It will take time.

You hit the nail on the head. I know about the bathroom thing. the only time my birds use the bathroom to go is when they are on my shoulder. We have morning out hour or so back to cage, Afternoon out back to cage, nite time out back to cage. We have to do it this way because we live in a log cabin and if we left them out all the time we would not have any walls. So it`s in out in out in out and they seam fine with it. They are always in the same room with us so thats what works for us. P.S. we have a Congo African Grey a Blue Fronted Amazon and two Cockstiels inside a pair of peacocks chickens ducks rabbits dogs cats goats Allso wild turkeys a family of deer wild ducks in the pond along with many passer by

We have many sheets in many colors that we change out for cleaning. Color differance does`t seam to bother them at least my bunch.

Who has owned an African Grey 25 or more years?
Ray P replied to kingsnake's topic in The GREY Lounge
My wife and I have had cockatiels for almost 40 years. Our oldest tiel is 21+ years old. Our grey will be eleven in Dec. and we had her all her life. Our BF Amazon is over 15 we think and she is a rehome with us for over 2 1/2 years. The oldest tiel we have had lived to 24 years. You may have many dogs and cats over the years but your parrot may go to your funeral and take over your estate. -
Cricket is a zon of few words, but her actions speak louder that words. She can say Hi, her name Cricket and some other words, but thats it for her. You can tell what she wants how she feels just by her action and the thing she wants the most is just to have her head rubs and to sit on my shoulder and look around at whats going on. Cricket will put her head down just like Corky will but when Criclets head goes down it stays down and when you rub her head she goes sound a sleep and when you stop she does not move untill you wake her up, and than she puts her head down for more or she will move her body tight against my head and make quiet little sounds. I have never seen her angrey and she always seams happy and we always enjoy our time together. Just a little about me and Cricket

It was 23 months be for Corky said her first word and now she won`t stop.
