  1. Welcome and glad to hear about your flock, fun names love your avatar pic.
  2. I see BirdFarm.com is advertising Jardines but I know nothing about them.
  3. If there is no pain and the missing portion is your concern then that should not be a problem or health issue for Sully.
  4. A good question, the beak looks to be a bit thickened. No worries about the normal peeling layers although it does look like she may have broken a bit more off than is normal. You may want to ask your Vet if you have concerns about the appearance of that beak. She looks clear eyed and her nares look good, happy bird face.
  5. Bet that smelled wonderful warm out of the oven, how did your bird accept it?
  6. Suggestions are allow them out time alternately or since they are both flighted let them work it out as Paco should be able to fly away from danger.
  7. Fingers crossed and moving softly so as to not awaken the inner Kraken.
  8. Some are not willing to list their birds as a safety issue, trying to keep their flocks safe from theft or government oversite.
  9. Welcome & glad that you will be able to care for your Grandmothers Grey, it will be like having a little of her with you still. No you do not have to keep his/her wings clipped they can grow out and Baby may learn to fly in time. Hope to hear how the transition goes and how Baby fits into your lives.
  10. Judy Lantz ( in Tarzana ,California, in San Fernando Valley) of Parrots Naturally needs help ; >Judy Lantz wrote; You've know us for many years and are aware of our efforts to place the many birds that have come to us for rehoming. City regulators have told us that we can no longer keep birds that are not fully feathered in the shop. If we don't place them immediately, the city has the option to revoke our business license. This is an emergency that has me begging for your help. Can you find it in your heart to take in one of our abandoned birds? Fostering or Adopting could both be options. All adoption fees will be waived for these poor birds and we will do our best to help you with a cage if you don't have one. Many of these birds have been former pets who lost their homes for many reasons and could again be a wonderful companion . Some are pairs, both proven and bonded who may breed in a new environment or may live out the rest of their lives together entertaining a lucky home. Tell all of your bird friends about our dilemma and the opportunity to foster or adopt one of these birds in need. We have featured only two of the many birds available. Charlie and Gypsy are waiting for you to take them home. There is a special reward for those who care for one of God's unfortunate. The birds described are just two of dozens that we need to place. We will spend lots of time with you if you call ahead and make an appointment with Judy or one of our volunteers. If you can help us preparing and showing birds please volunteer by calling or emailing Judy; [ parrotsnaturally "AT" earthlink.net ] parrotsnaturally@earthlink.net Or call Judy at; 818 887-1233 Here are just two of the birds that need help; Charlie, Female Congo African Grey Charlie came to us two months ago, traveling all the way from Texas to return to her first home at Parrots Naturally. She was one of our own flock hatched in 2004. Her loving owner passed away several months ago, so her husband asked us to find her a new home. Gypsy, Female Vosmaeri Eclectus Gypsy came to us almost a year ago. She had become very difficult to handle and had attacked a family member. To the right, experienced bird person she might make a good pet. One of our volunteers is able to handle and even cuddle her with caution.
  11. Their food may be ok I have not looked into that part. Their behavior techniques are awful-they use flooding which will never ever build trust and develop a safe healthy relationship with your bird.
  12. Somehow the Cockoo clock seems appropriate. I should know 4 Greys 2 Toos the 3 Keets & 5 Tiels. That is just the birds. Congrats on the family flock pic, have not the courage to even attempt that here.
  13. You have to adjust the routine to make it to work to support her green backside then that is what has to be for now. Talk to her and let her know the "why" of it (sounds wacky but it works for me). Maybe later you can try the old morning routine again and see if the result differs. You shouldn't feel guilty she still gets out time and weekends offer more time. Many birds are cage bound there entire lives as people just are not aware that there is an alternative or fear of bite rules. Nilah is loved I know that so just don't say you hate her even in jest, just work with what she is willing to comply with this year. You have many months and years ahead to perfect your interactions.
  14. Ray you should add smell to the list, if there is a foul odor-get to the Vet.
  15. Very true Dan, patience and reassurance are crucial right now. Let him see you are still with him it may take finding a new spot for his cage to help calm him. Stop by and talk to him frequently, just a moment or two will do. He needs to feel safe from what ever is haunting him from his past or present. As Dan said reward the behavior you want to repeat and try to ignore the ones you don't like or try to put your self in his little four toed shoes and think from his viewpoint and take a look around. Are there scary shadows? Could he see better from another location? Sounds, routines, surroundings and flock (people & pets) are all new and different it does take time to work with a bird who comes with baggage, it can be a very rewarding journey when you start to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
  16. Nice to be rewarded for your efforts.
  17. Welcome to you both and do remember that patience is your best resource along with observation when adjusting to life with a Grey.
  18. You only hate that she is not complying, you don't hate her at all. Were you always obedient and never a thorn in your parents side? I know I drove mine a little batty from time to time. Are you able to make the room dark?
  19. She is so brave now, taking on the giant and the china cabinet, no furniture will ever be safe again.
  20. Think about the sounds that steam mop makes-hisses like an angry bird. No wonder the Greys get all huffy & alarmed. Had to retire the rumba vacuum here as Harry Too had such a fear of that dangerous machine.
  21. Greyt news appreciate both the update & your hubbys' service. There may be a period or readjustment when hubby returns.
