  1. Bella's six months old, she's starting to find her own independence and tell you what SHE wants. I agree that she should be given some space. If you are grabbing her by the legs and holding her wings down then I don't think that this will encourage her to be more friendly towards you. Talk to her, give her little treats, make her warm towards you. Regarding the water - do you have "open bowls" as opposed to a drinking bottle - your baby will find it easier to dunk their head in a water bowl. To be honest - it will be drinking - it wouldn't have survived so long if it hadn't been. Looking forward to some updates
  2. It's ridiculous Jane - I was going to say exactly what you've just said - Scandanavia is just over there (I'm pointing) - look at the weather you put up with - and the world keeps revolving! Schools stay open, roads stay open, lives continue! But you're right - not here!!!! Oh - and I still went to work in four inch heels!!!
  3. Ha Ha! Very good Dan. Just for the record, I don't think this is the most informative site, I don't think any of you are the friendliest people I've ever "met", I don't think that the articles are interesting - this isn't the reason I joined - I was just rejected from every other site (including World of Warcraft) How on earth do you find them Dan?
  4. Oh, what lovely news! Those 4D scans are soooo spooky! Not long now - a baby and a baby parrot - bah - your hands are going to be full!!
  5. Yes, everything a nightmare here. Northumberland County Council is running out of salt, schools are closed and it was -5 here last night. The early morning flurry was soft on the car though - so that easily brushes off. What annoys me is the school closures! WHY? Oh yes, the teachers couldn't get in - well, what would happen if my place of work decided they couldn't get it!! I work in a hospital! We've had to abandon the kids this evening though - the youngest goes to school 22 miles away - and Michael had to turn back from collecting her - roads too dangerous and rear wheel drive don't go! They are both stopping at a relative's house! I'm sick of it - global warming! WHERE!!!
  6. Gosh, how on earth my children have grown into healty young adults with having birds around them all their lives! Some parents are over-protective and find complaint with everything. This is clearly his first! Don't worry - second time around they'll be picking up their sweets from the floor with bits of fluff attached, kissing the sweet, saying "ah, all better" and then giving it back to their kid! If he'd like to come for a visit to mine to assess the very healthy children who live here - he's more than welcome!
  7. Hi Jonno - afraid not, I'm in the UK - but there are tons and tons of members from the states who will be just getting out of bed - they'll be around soon. Someone will be sure to answer you later
  8. Lyn - Harvey's exactly the same - stuff he used to love is being ignored, or just plain kicked out of the bowl (I've watched him do it - he means business). What I have found that works though is if I add a bit of palm oil when the food is still warm and it coats it when it solidifies - and he wolfs it down then! I think they are as fussy and as choosy as us when it comes to food!
  9. Hi Jonno and welcome to the fourm. Personally if it is only 8 months time until you emigrate I would hold off. For what it would cost you in cargo and qurantine into the states would more than make up for the cost at the other end in the purchase of a grey. It is also much kinder - I wouldn't want to put Harvey through all that fuss unless it was absolutely necessary. Pack up, enjoy your transition to the states and buy a grey when you are settled and happy in your new home and surroundings ~ you'll have more time to spend with it and more time to enjoy what superb creatures they are
  10. Jenny - could you stop cuddling Jasper for just one minute and give us an update (and some photos!!!)
  11. Supernova wrote: Oh no - we can't get this one started again Bernie! It would end up tap dancing, all washed up, drained..... What about your pond - just set the fish on the side for a few minutes (they'll be frozen this time of year anyway) and give the boat a spin  :woohoo:
  12. That's absolutely amazing Jill - those observatories catch some fantastic footage. Bernie's going to love this one for sure! Thanks for that - I'm learning little bits and pieces!!
  13. Ah! Wiffle balls!! Glad there's now a photo - thanks Caitlin! I didn't have a scooby doo what a wiffle ball was - I did wikipedia it - but couldn't quite picture one! Looks like something Harvey would tear through too! Thanks for the photo and the clarification
  14. Not just one, but three handsome devils! Keeko is so bright eyed and "sparkly" - thanks for the pictures - he is indeed gorgeous.
  15. Ah bless him - he really is posing for the camera. Thanks for the update Caroline - Charlie's gorgeous too!
  16. I love the top one! They both look like they're right into singing a song! Thanks for these Caroline - they are gorgeous
  17. Jess, I did exactly the same yesterday. I pulled Harvey's cage apart and his playstand apart and thoroughly cleaned them. Whilst doing this I was thinking about those great birds talking on You Tube, and doing tricks - but the viewers don't get to see the dirty and lengthy jobs associated with owning a grey, or indeed any bird. Karma to you, in the hope that this posting will think somebody think twice that it's not all the "cute factor" that you get.
  18. Fresh veg would be great - but unfortunately once it's been on a boat for six weeks or so it isn't exactly "fresh". I wish I had time for a little veggie patch or something like that - but the nearest I've got is a tub of potatoes and a courgette! I don't think I have green fingers!!!
  19. An excellent description of two gorgeous babies. It's lovely that you have decided to keep one Dave - we've seen them from the very start and it'll be lovely to continue with the progress of one of them (or all of them if you can get your babies' new owners to sign up here!!). Thanks again Dave ~ I'll be sad to see them go!
  20. That's a brilliant result! The bag of Harrison's I bought for Harvey was all dispensed into his bowls at differing times over the last few months, and has all gone in the bin! He doesn't like the birdie bread either! What a good little birdie!
  21. After a lengthy holiday break and long lie ins today was the day - back to work! Harvey gets up when I go downstairs as I prepare his breakfast and get him ready for the day ahead - unfortunately for him (and me) this is at 06.00 hours. This morning as I raised his "nightie" and said "good morning" all jolly, as usual, he looked at me with such indignance and disgust! "What, you must be joking" was the thoughts I sensed! I had put him to bed earlier than he has been going recently in order to give him the optimal "night nights" - but clearly wasn't enough! I nearly had to prise him out of his cage for a morning poop! Roll on the weekend (for us both) methinks!
  22. What a great name! Welcome to you and Tweak Toria. You'll find tons and tons of information here! Hope you enjoy it. Tweak is gorgeous - and what a lovely name too!
  23. That's great - there are some members whose babies have spoken very early (mine isn't one of them!!) - keep encouraging him all the way - there'll be more to come!
  24. Oh Lyn - what a great shot! The girls are gorgeous! Karma to you for resurrecting this thread - come on there must be more!!
  25. How frightening ~ we all do it - we all cook with them on our shoulder - I'm guilty of it too. At least you were there and your quick actions deflected a serious incident. I'm sure it was such a shock to you (and Rikki) ~ but just shows how easily accidents can happen in our "safe" homes. Hope Rikki is okay x
