  1. Not only clever in description, but now pictures too!! Dave, you just get better and better and better!!!
  2. The Aviator, alone, isn't designed for flying really - you only get a couple of metres "leash" on it, which is elastic which absorbs the pull when your bird gets to the end of it (the bird doesn't automatically yo yo back!!). Now, if you do want to fly in a big field there are extension leads available (similar to extendable dog leads) that you can add to enable the bird to fly. Harvey loves his Aviator - give him the freedom he wouldn't be able to enjoy without it
  3. I still find Midland Parrots cheaper than Northern Parrots (especially with the 5% discount each time). I know what you mean about the delivery though - that's why I order loads each time - and not just little things (I order pellets in 40Kg bags)!!

It's very tedious - but the over-production using similar family members (cousins in particular) can bring on a multitude of dysfunction relating to all matter of organs and other bearings on the human body. The want for a better word of "inbreeding" in human families causes untold disabilities (not only physical, but chromosomal and chemical) which I would only guess would transfer into whatever species "inbreeds". Kidneys, for example, you can't see - but generational inbreeding causes numerous gene deficiencies, which can lead a patient into kidney failure (eg Alport's syndrome - which includes deafness). In essence, I could go on and on and on (and usually do) but the multiple births from related species brings so many unseen problems - and in animal species these are NEVER tested for. Please tell me that this is enough now!!! I don't think I'm technically known for my brains around here!!!!<br><br>Post edited by: JillyBeanz, at: 2010/01/14 20:20
  5. Hey there Countess - Welcome to our Family. Please go and tell us more about yourself in the "Welcome Room" at the top of the forums page. You sound like a really interesting person!!! Now - as for the "dog/parrot" that is just bizarre! I've had people ask me if Harvey is a pigeon - but a DOG!! Was Griff on the floor, being led along on his lead??? This woman is obviously wacky!!!! Great thread - I wonder what else our fids have been mistaken for?
  6. Exactly! There are so many super names out there! Tell us about them
  7. I leave the radio on for Harvey - switching channels regularly - because I'm sure he's sick of Jordin Sparks as much as I am!!!!! Funnily enough he loves TV programmes when there's a lot going on and moving about - he seems to "watch" it - not sure if he's taking anything in though

You quote my WHOLE passage, questioning my opinion (which is all it is) and putting your own in - but still didn't include my bottom line! WHAT USE DOES IT HAVE - None! It doesn't save lives, the breeder hasn't managed to cure any parrot diseases. It is for the own breeder's merriment (as outlined in your "quote". My opinion is that we shouldn't play with genetics (believe me, I work in genetics would love to discuss it, but shan't!!).

  10. Ah, Piccolo - what a great name! You have plenty of time to find out everything you need to know - read everything and ask anything you want. Welcome to our family x
  11. Harvey's too interested in chewing his toys and preening - oh and has his head in the food dish and comes up for air now and then! I at least thought he would have learned "Harvey, no" and "Harvey, stop it" by now - he hears it enough!!!
  12. Congratulations on bringing Einstein home. It might be best if he is falling to put a blanket in the bottom of his cage so that he doesn't harm himself. He is fine on the floor of his sleep cage - stick a little blanket in there for him too - but make sure there's some pellets and water in there at night too - some birds do have a "midnight feast". Definitely start handling him - he'll accept you more and you will find it easier to move him from places he isn't allowed. You don't say whether he is flighted - if so, what's he like flying around? You do need to introduce pellets, but I agree with Jingles - introduce them slowly. The only query I have is his age - why didn't you receive papers if he is only 12 weeks old and has a leg band - I presume you bought directly from a breeder? You also say his eyes are grey - at 12 weeks they are still very, very dark. You will have loads of fun and enjoyment - they change your life forever!
  13. Brag away! I wish I could join you - but Harvey says next to nothing!!! I'm not sure what to expect - will it just pop out like yours did - or will he attempt to say something for ages? Either way - I'm still waiting.........!
  14. See! See! Under that there's grass! Nobody believed how cold we were brrrrr! Doesn't it make you want to visit! NOT!!! Great picture Renate - thanks for showing the doubters that we really are suffering!!!
  15. I'm the same as Dee - since Harvey came to me we've only used one exit door too (I have three ways of escape) - it just cuts down on the opportunity. The whole family has had it drilled into them that this door doesn't open unless the one between them and Harvey is shut. It's a training exercise really, for all. And just to add to your angst - the windows will be the next obstacle!
  16. Oh I cannot believe it ~ I was so confident from your description of events that it was. Luckily the level headed members of this forum (I'm not one of them!) posted sense and you didn't go in "guns a blazing". I wouldn't feel ashamed doubting his integrity though - he's quite happy to take your money and give you the bird! So, the search continues and I'll keep my fingers crossed. I really feel for you and I am sorry that this was a dead end
  17. Hi Kevin - I found this link extremely helpful when I was learning to post pictures - there'll be no sstopping you once you get the hang of it! http://www.greyforums.net/forums/the-photography-room/89533-how-to-post-picturesphoto-tuturial.html
  18. In full agreement - I can vacuum around the house so it is spick and span and oh, Harvey decides to have a little preening session! There are little downy feathers all over the place! This doesn't just happen in the moult though - it's constant! Aloe juice is great to help with those little itches - as you've already purchased - and would thank you loads if he could
  19. Hi Kevin ~ welcome ~ glad you've "taken the plunge" and joined us! Can't wait to hear more about you and all your birds
  20. There must be something he does for you that's unique - Harvey "quacks" like a duck when I ask him and "woo woos" like an owl when I ask him. If he's picked up Spanish so quickly then I am sure whatever you've taught him must be more. I would say, after my holidays and being away from Harvey, that if the cops would go in with you and let the bird out, he'll fly straight to you as well - he'll recognise you for sure. The pressure of the cops might also "break" the man.
  21. OMG! You know in your heart of hearts this is your bird - call the cops!! Actually, if it was me I know what I would do - but I won't post it, because it definitely isn't politically correct!!! You don't know what kind of guy he is - he may attack you - call the cops - definitely, definitely, definitely! Oh I so want this happy ending!! Keep us updated!
  22. Hi Glenda ~ Welcome to our family. You may have visited several forums over the last few days - but you have found your home! You will have browsed and realised what a friendly bunch of people there are here. Your questions will all be answered ~ might be a bit of a time delay as we are world wide - but you'll not find threads here that don't get answered. And as for stupid questions - I'll have asked them before - so don't worry!!! Nothing is classed as stupid here. There are many owners with rescue birds who will be only too willing to help. We have specially allocated rooms to deal with your queries - pretty self explanatory when you peek in. Ask away - go for it and I hope to see you as a regular member of our family
  23. So impressed I am by your reviews I have finally ordered Wesley the Owl. I shall report back mid-September when I've read it! £5.31 from Amazon - bargain!!!
  24. Bah - Dave's talents show no boundaries! There was me thinking I was being multi-cultural!!!! Great video Paulo - thanks for sharing x
  25. No snow, no mud (we have paths and roads a bit further South than Lyn)!!! Dirty piles of snow are all that is left to mark our worst snow snap for 25 years! They reckon there's more on the way - it's moved down South now - sorry folks - but you are welcome to it!!!!
