Ha Ha! Hilarious Dee ~ that poor, poor husband of yours!!!! :woohoo: :woohoo:

Just stay away from those frozen lakes Bernie! They are dangerous!!!! Great picture Janet - Elaine is looking good!

We're sitting debating how to go and get our shopping. The car park out of our supermarket is on a bit of a hill - and for sure our fabulous summer cars will not get out of the car park!! I've come up with the idea of walking there and taking a sledge - I must have one in the garage from when the kids were little! Actually - when we get to the supermarket there'll be nothing on the shelves - have the deliveries got through??? We might not make it and that tin of spam from 1943 might get an outing if we eat everything else in the cupboards!!!

They are beautiful - I love seeing two bird species getting along. Thanks for sharing these

Absolutely beautiful - I just low macaws. What beautiful colours on that wingspan. Thanks for sharing these - they've made an otherwise uninspired, snow covered day colourful for me!!

I love the photos - that one of Merlin and Cleo is a classic ~ I love the look on their faces!

Hi Lambert ~ welcome to the forum. That's quite a little (young) flock you have there! Bet you have your hands full!!! Looking forward to hearing more about you all

The pictures do work Bernie! I love them

You're doing the right thing then - you know how much time, attention and love they need. I hope this lady is very happy with them - I'm sure you've found a loving home for them ~ and any time your father would like to pop over here to the UK and build me an aviary - I wouldn't mind one bit. Good luck to you and your birds - I'm sure this lady will give them the home you wish for them.

I'm really aware that Harvey isn't getting his "quota" at the moment. Usually he is in the hall, and he is covered at night - but with this cold weather I'm not happy with him in there and we have brought him into the living room - he's still awake under the cover as he can hear the TV and I know it's not until we go to bed that he does too. Harvey NEVER naps during the day when we are here - I have never once seen him asleep. Now - the sensitivity comes into play when he's sitting on the landing and hears one of the kids open a packet of crisps in the living room - it doesn't take him long to arrive (and this is no joke)!!!!

I have pellets available at all times for Harvey and also a mixture of veggies all day (changed at regular intervals). It's not necessary to feed fruit each day as it is high in sugar content - should only be given a a couple of times a week. I stopped giving Harvey monkey nuts very early on when I was warned by others about the potential for the shells to contain aspergillosis - so have never given him them again. Really just keep trying veggies - good greens are a great source of vitamins and minerals (kale, spinach, broccoli etc). I also use peas, sweetcorn, cauliflower, sprouts, kale etc etc. Just as long as you vary it you should be fine - you'll find a combination that works for you and your baby.

Hey! Less of the old!!!

Ha Ha Ha! That's fab Dee - the next shot should be a braver one - perhaps you in a bikini? I've been out and cleared the path (again) and knocked the solid ice from my car's wheel arches (again) and cleaned the snow and ice from the top of the rubbish bins (again).....Gosh - this is getting tedious!!!! :woohoo:

It depends how bad this smell is - it can be a sign of infection if it is continually bad - I would monitor it and see if it changes (for the better). To mention it you must be slightly concerned - I would check with your vet if you are worried.

There are lots of threads that will help you - but veggies are a must every day, but you mustn't leave them too long as they obviously turn stale and develop bacteria etc. Seeds are fine in moderation. A good pellet mix is a must though - and you seem to have managed that one. You must offer pellets all day, ever day - these are best in a bowl on their own and not mixed with the veg etc. Monkey nuts aren't advised though - their shells can contain aspergillosis - which can be very harmful to our birds (don't worry - I used to feed Harvey these until I was warned of the dangers). To try and entice your baby into eating different veggies you could put them on a fruit spike and make a kebab with different things - for example - Harvey's contained birdie bread, carrot, peppers and broccoli this morning. Other ways to get them to eat veggies are to chop them all up into a bowl and add a bit palm oil - I've found Harvey loves the taste of palm oil so much he'll gobble up anything that's coated in it! Fruit is very high in sugar and should only be given a couple of times a week too - you will find that the poop is very watery with all this fruit too. You will find the best mix for your baby - it takes time to realise what their favourites are - but don't get too excited, because these sharp change!! There's also things such as chicken and eggs which give the needed protein to your baby - the list is exhaustive - but, as I mentioned, there are tons of interesting threads to help you out in this regard. Just make sure you read through all the threads which involve the toxic foods for your babies - the important first step to your feeding programme. Good luck ~ hope this helps x

Post edited by: JillyBeanz, at: 2010/01/08 08:18

WOW! What an impressive array of species - I am so happy these threads have been started, I am learning so much! Thanks Dave (and Renate for her fine input of the numbers involved)

Post edited by: JillyBeanz, at: 2010/01/08 08:05

This post is fascinating - I can't believe the differentiation between different parrot species - to the uneducated a parrot is a parrot is a parrot! It seems that zons are quite high maintenance. Great reading, thanks very much

Debbie ~ send this person our best wishes for her bird's safe return

Well, overnight - more snow! The temperature on my car computer this morning read - 11 at some points on the way to work - I have never seen it that cold! I was going to snap a picture - but didn't think it was safe to do so, considering the driving conditions (yes, couldn't face the bus today)!!! I'm now starting to worry about the wildlife - what are those poor things doing for their dinner? I'm trying to help though! AND - when all of this snow SUDDENLY melts - there's going to be the ensuing floods - I can just see it now. Lovely pictures Lyn - I love the top one (and where did you get that blue sky from!!!!)

Ha Ha! Alfie is such a sweetie - now, who is in charge in your house Lyn!!!!
