1. Oh congratulations Chelsea ~ what a good boy Biscotti is! I've decided I'm going to start writing Harvey's words down as he says them - just for posterity. You'll have to get a video of Biscotti talking - I'd love to see it
2. Ah! Worth the wait! Thanks for sharing this picture of your lovely grey - and also the bunny in the background!
3. Yip! Totally agree with Judy - you have made the statement. You don't love him - you feel sorry for him. Get rid - you don't need a bloke anyway - you have your fids!
4. Debandbella wrote: This isn't neccessarily true. There are lots of people who have rehabilitated - but they have wanted the help, they have wanted to change. This is something Augusto must accept - professional help, or he will never overcome his addiction. You're not naive Debbie - in love, but not naive. The problem being, he'll drag you down with him. It's hard to separate reality from fantasy when you are in love. You have to think whether you can continue under these circumstances, or break your heart, but move on with life. There's really only you can make the decision - but in your heart of hearts you know what you need to do.
5. I think that it depends what he's addicted to. Drug addiction has many forms - you can be addicted to prescription drugs (or even over the counter drugs) or you can go through the spectrum and be addicted to heroin. Obviously there is help available for the full addiction programme - but an addict can only be helped if they truly want help - and from your description, he doesn't want help. He says he is coming clean "for his own sake" - what about your sake? Like you said - you've had two years of hell and unless he pulls his socks up and seeks professional advice then you'll endure more years of hell. If he really does want to kick his habit and you really do want to support him through it the first stop is his GP - but insist on going with him. If he refuses your help and refuses your accompaniment, then I'm afraid it is time to kick him into touch, before he drags you way down with him. Here's a link to the NHS addiction site - it might give you, yourself a bit of support x http://www.nhs.uk/Search/Pages/Results.aspx?___JSSniffer=true&scope=&q=drug+addiction
6. Ha Ha! Dave thinks he can lock us out of his life, but no! Bad luck mate - you're stuck with us (well, definitely me - I'm like your own private stalker)!!!!! My colleague caught me talking to the computer today at work while I was looking at the brooder - boy, I obviously have it bad
7. What a little chatterbox - I loved the "popping" and beat boxing. Gus just rolls them out! Thanks for sharing this - I hope that one day Harvey might have 1% of Gus' narrative!!!
8. The "proof" is written by himself on the website you provided. He says he was an amateur ornithologist before setting up his consultancy in 1999 - so it's his statement, not mine - I wouldn't outwardly question somebody without reading into it. I am not trying to "diss" him. If you read both my responses I say that his feedback is good for his behaviour techniques - he's just not "qualified" in the "qualification" sense - but obviously has experience of such matters. Sorry if you feel I'm "dissing" him - I'm not, merely questioning him - as everyone else has who has posted, not just me personally! Good luck - I truly hope he helps you with Argyle - I know what a terrible time you are having with him.
9. Joolesgreyuk wrote: Not sure why you've jumped on my comment - I said that he might have good results as according to his feedback he has - but I still bet you a million squid that he doesn't have a BSc in parrots or any other birds! It's his hobby that he's turned into a living - he says so himself in his profiles. He also says that he "changed careers". You have already questioned his advice in a public posting - so why can't I !!!
10. I can't believe she went straight back to it - aren't these supposed to be intelligent birds!!! Poor little Alfie - I'm sorry for laughing!!
11. Very interesting! I know exactly what you mean about the mess - my blinds have been replaced in the conservatory due to my mis-judgement last summer!!! Another form is dried - Sheila told me about these and Harvey loves them - no mess at all!! So, do the birds drink it?
12. Well, well, well! I did it - I plugged it in! Nah, only joking - I did go on it. I've stuck to my diet too - hoping I can keep it up! I've had that many carbs Penny I think I may need a laxative soon
13. I've looked at his profile on his website and he is no more qualified to give comment on what's right and what's not than other knowledgeable members here on the forum! He's not a vet - he has BSc after his name - but it could be a BSc in computers or engineering. He is just a guy, interested in parrots who has developed his hobby into a money spinner. I just did a quick google and I cannot find one site that says that you shouldn't feed palm nuts/oil - in fact the exact opposite!! All the sites I've read have said they are good in domestic circumstances for their feather conditioning ability. As for the aloe - as Jane says - it's absolutely natural, occurring in the wild and you can see the difference in your fids skin when using it. I bet any money he has a "special mixture" he advises (and charges the earth for". He might be able to help with the behaviour aspect - he does seem to have good feedback - but the palm nuts & aloe is a load of old phooey! Anyway - does he think you pack 25 palm nuts in Argyle and Beau's dish each day?!
14. I really enjoyed your introduction ~ thanks very much! I look forward to hearing more about you and your flock. Pongo's gorgeous and I am sure you will love having him around
15. Happy Hatchday Willis - hope you get lots of pressies and enjoy your cake!!
16. Harvey went through this stage too - and the advice I was given was to change where it is and how it is presented - it worked! I started putting his veggies on his fruit spear - carrot, broccoli, potato, baby sweetcorn etc - and he started eating it again. I still offer him some on the spear - but started putting it back in his bowl. I was the same as you - just wanted him to eat them!
17. Ha Ha! That's what they get when they play with things they shouldn't!!! I can just imagine the look on her face! Priceless!!
18. pearllyn wrote: I'll upload them tonight - they are quite grainy and not of very good quality - I think I must have taken them on "zoom" from the hotel room balcony judging that I seem to be above the trees!
19. Lambert58 wrote: Yeah! Righto! You are so brave even going somewhere like this - I would just crumble - I hate things like that. Good luck, whatever you decide - but I'm sure you'll be telling us about your little addition very shortly!!!
20. Welcome to our family ~ I'm sure you'll enjoy it here. I look forward to some photos too and finding out more about you all
21. Hi Mark ~ I got Harvey from John at Parrot Care (www.parrotcare.com) as did a few other members of this forum. If you didn't want to travel, I know that he does ship. Mind you - I'm not sure Harvey is a great advert - he's the devil in disguise!!! Read, read, read and read again - you'll need all the help and advice available before you bring a baby home - they are hard work, demanding - but the reward outweighs everything else
22. Okay - I'm going to share it - I've been spiteful for long enough!!! There's new babies in the incubator and the older guys are still knocking about on the nursery cam. I've been having a sneaky peek!!!
23. Ah, thanks Jay - I've seen them - I promise! Anyway Jay - that picture you've posted is about the same standard as my holiday snaps - so, you've done me a favour really   They all used to fly in each and every day - it was glorious to see. The macaws and the zons often sharing the same area to eat - and these were wild birds.
24. I've let you down! I've found the pictures of the macaws (they came regularly too) and the iguanas - but can't find the photos of the Amazons Yes! That's one of them Jay! They were beautiful!! Renate - it was Margarita Island, off the North coast of Venezeula.

Post edited by: JillyBeanz, at: 2010/01/18 21:17
