2. Hi and welcome to our forum ~ you will find some very knowledgeable breeders on this forum who will help you along the way. I am only a meagre owner though - so my advice won't be any use Looking forward to hearing more about your flock
3. Hi Taylor ~ it's great to see that you will be joining the ranks as a grey owner. I found this particular link very helpful when I was learning to post ~ hope it helps - can't wait to see some photos. http://www.greyforums.net/forums/the-photography-room/89533-how-to-post-picturesphoto-tuturial.html If you are getting your baby from one of our forum members - then it's surely going to be a wonderful baby. Looking forward to seeing your photos.
4. Well done all of you! I have been sitting here green with envy reading of your successes - and today's the day! I've weighed myself this morning and lost 2 pounds!!! I am now feeling like maybe this "modification" is working - and will keep it up! Keep going everyone and thanks for the cheerleading Penny
5. Oh Jay - I can't believe it. As you know I love Spock to pieces and love his antics ~ as well as his logs. If anyone can do anything it will be you two. Spock's in the right place, with the right people. Spock ~ Happy Hatchday - tinged with sadness though - but enjoy it and my prayers and thoughts are with you all
6. Hi Davie & Pat - absolutely normal! You will find enough of these soon to stuff a pillow - and it doesn't get any better as they get older - the feathers just get bigger!! They loosen these up all of the time and you will find them absolutely everywhere - you will never have used the vacuum so much in your life!
7. Janet I have never read this - I am so happy Erika has resurrected it - absolutely hilarious! I love it! Karma to you for making me giggle
8. Alfie's such a smarty pants! Harvey won't touch the stuff. I'm afraid I shall starve him to death if I insist he eats it!!! I often bring the bag out and show it to him - he isn't falling in love with it! It's like making children eat sprouts!
9. We all have this problem - that bit in the middle of your back you just can't reach - but who's a clever parrot!!! http://tv.gawker.com/5416285/clever-parrot-uses-own-feather-to-scratch-his-head
10. What a great link Lyn - thanks for this. I really enjoyed reading all the different facts
11. What lovely news! I've never, ever seen a cockatiel chick (Spiky was one when he came to me) so I can't wait to see your pictures. Pakshi looks one proud mother!

Rusty

Both Dusty and Rusty are beautiful - you take wonderful photos. Thanks for sharing
13. Go Tobie! What great news Jan - he'll be into everything now! I love it when I decide to go upstairs and just say "hey, Harvey, come on" and up he goes! I have a turn in my staircase and he is so proficient at the mid-air turn it is unreal! You must be so proud after your tribulations with Tobie - and don't worry - he'll be a dab hand in no time
14. casper wrote: Ha Ha! I really do sound stingy - you are all making me feel terrible!! Harvey eats all the veg we would normally eat - I haven't bought extra because he's arrived (I'm sure he eats the stuff that would have otherwise been wasted). I buy a big bag of dried "salad beans" that I boil up once a month and bag in little portions - which only costs about £2. I buy my pellets in those huge 20Kg sacks and they last ages. Yes, toys are expensive - but I've only had Harvey 10 months (what!!) and spent hundreds on toys in the first couple of mad months - so we have more than any pet shop round here in a big curver box - and anyway - I'm finding that doorframes are far more attractive than any expensive toy you could buy!! And yes Caroline - I agree with Julie - mine is just one fiend - you have 4 (I shudder with anxiety!!!)
15. I am so pleased everyone is still in the spirit nearly a two whole weeks since we really dug our heels in! Now - this is the testing time - the weekend. Luckily during the week at work food isn't readily available, but come Friday night and Saturday night it's usually my little "picnic" night - bottle of wine, nuts, crisps and M & Ms are the usual accompaniment to bad British TV! But no - I've had a late dinner (7pm) and I am now full and therefore I think this will banish the munchies (I still have enough "syns" for a bottle of wine too)!! Keep going all of you (and keep warm Jan)!! I hope when I report back on Monday I may have some good news!!
16. Oh my goodness. I am so, so sorry for your loss. I know it's a really really difficult time, and to have lost Archimedes in such tragic circumstances too. Please though, don't blame the pup, it's just instinct. The pup knows no better. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at such a side time.
17. Haven't we heard this before???? Come on Bernie - this boat has had less sailing time than the Titanic!!! I shall await the video eagerly! Watch out for the ducks!!
18. I'm so pleased both Francis and Rocky are doing well - and you are so right RockysMum - all our birds are different and what's okay for one might not be for another. You have both highlighted something though that none of us seemed to be aware of ~ thank you for both sharing your experiences and again, I am pleased things are fine now for them both
19. That's it now - nothing is safe!!!! Great pictures of Calypso - she's coming along great! Thanks for sharing you photo
20. Mmmm! Why do these parrots always get the best food! This didn't help considering I'm eating my lunch of the very exciting salad variety!!! That looks lovely! Great shot of Rishi - you can see all the sauce on his wings!!! Thanks for sharing this.
21. pat wrote: Oh Pat, poor Frosty  Have you thought about sign language to save him from this fate (and before anyone else says it - this is coming from a Geordie!!!!)
22. Ha Ha! I knew I would sound stingy! Harvey only gets fruit a couple of times a week (and we buy tons anyway for the family) and like I said the only "special" thing for Harvey is his bags of veg - everything else is what we would already have in the house. If we have pasta, he has pasta, if we have rice, he has rice - so really he isn't "costing" us anything (he hasn't been to the vet yet - he was last there in March on the day I brought him home so there's no vet charges involved yet). I don't pay insurance either. OMG - I really do sound neglectful don't I!! Anyway - I'm shuddering too to think how much Dave spends (along with the others with multiple beaks to feed)!!!! COME ON DAVE
23. Hi Versatile - I feel so sorry for you as you seem to have a relentless battle against your parents, and quite clearly you do want to care for BG. Your parents brought BG home - so BG is their responsibility too. You need to try and educate them to the needs of BG - invite them to join the forum. Yes, BG will make a mess. There will be dust, feathers and food slung everywhere - but he's a bird and this is a fundamental fact about birds - your parents didn't need to be Grey experts to know this. I am a clean freak too - I just have to clean more now then ever before! Your mom will just have to accept this, as I have done!!! I'm really pleased at such a young age (please don't think I'm being condescending, I'm not - I have a 17 year old who has nothing to do with Harvey!!) you are taking BGs responsibility on. As for the supplements - I live in the UK. Sunlight isn't readily available - it's mostly grey and cloudy for mostpart of the year! Both my breeder and my AV advise Daily Essentials 3 (which contains vitamin D3) and also Calcivet (calcium supplement) - but I was shown EXACTLY what measures to use as you certainly can overdose them. Good luck - I can really tell you want the best for BG
24. What an honour! And although I know I can't rock the way Dayo does - his thanks is reciprocated here too! I think this is a great accolade - a dance and a chant from Dayo!! What a great video of Dayo - I just love, love, love the way he whistles absolutely in time with the song! He's not wishing to be a rockstar - he IS a rockstar!! Thanks for sharing this
25. Ha Ha! Obviously anyone over the age of 45 has had it Janet!! This is interesting about the pellets. I feed pellets - because my breeder told me to! Top and bottom of it. But - when I rescued Spiky (my cockatiel) I was naive and didn't know what you were supposed to feed them - that's right - cockatiel seed mix - that's what they sell in the shops! I always offered him fruit - he loved apples - but his principle diet was seed. 17 whole, long years of seed! He was healthy, he was happy and he was loved - it seemed that's all he needed. Saying that, if I every acquired another cockatiel - that would be a different matter - I would go to the lengths of the earth to feed it "better" - because that is what I've read you should do - so it must be right It's all propaganda and sales figures

Post edited by: JillyBeanz, at: 2010/01/28 20:27
