  1. Harvey's head at this precise moment feels like he has a plastic hedgehog under his feathers. He, contrary to normality, is taking great pleasure in rubbing his head against my fingers and getting me to scratch these areas for him (I've been reading my emails etc and browsing the internet for an hour now and he's hardly moved! This is a turnaround - when this happened last year he wouldn't let me near him! He's having regular aloe coiffeurs just to keep him happy!! I do feel sorry for him - there are hundreds that have suddenly "popped" through onto his scalp - itchy, itchy, itchy!

The bald eagle Which bird is known as the symbol of peace?
  3. Yes Do you bite your finger nails?
  4. Harvey loves his sugar cane. He bangs it off the side of his cage and makes all matter of noise, and then starts munching it! I agree - the silence is golden
  5. No! How many sugars do you take in a hot drink?
  6. Harvey definitely started recognising his own name very early on (I would say not long after he came home at 12 weeks) - and something I've just tried now! I've just turned and said "Harvey" and he turned his head towards me, then waited a bit and said "sausage" just to see if it was voice recognition - he totally ignored me so I said "Harvey" again and he turned round (I know that with my parent's dog she just recognises my tone of voice - she's called Suzy and if I call her Doris, Fred or Noddy she will still acknowledge me and come over!!!). Saying that - I know people have changed their parrot's names, say after rescue, and they haven't taken long to recognise another name ~ it's all very bizarre!

  8. The gruff grey voice makes the "Merry Christmas, Ho, Ho, Ho" sound hilarious! Thanks for this - does it get annoying now that it's February though or has Kahn realised the decorations are now down and he should save it until December!!
  9. I can't believe some of the positions Emma gets herself into when she is playing!! Thanks for sharing this.
  10. What beautiful shots - I love the bottom one - she looks like she is posing and waiting for that "perfect" moment!
  11. What a great poem - and one I am sure that all from the UK echo. The UK, once a mighty empire, is steadily dwindling and waiting to be swallowed up itself by Europe - leave my sterling alone - I don't want to pay for my purchases in Euros!
  12. What great news - it's encouraging to know that you now have spoken personally to the specialist - and dump that previous vet!!! It'll be a long struggle - but you seem to have the love and dedication that is needed to pull Vree through this.
  13. I would love a shot of that - even a little sit inside for a spin round the lake
  14. Bernie I absolutely used to love the Hamlet adverts and vividly remember the bloke with the "comb over" in the photo booth!!! That was mint! OMG Lyn - that birdie - I thought his feet were stuck at one point!! He's definitely enjoying the music! I loved that one Jane - karma to you as I am sat here laughing out loud - with nobody to hear me but Harvey!!!
  15. OMG! I can't believe you have taken mny offer so seriously!!! I was only joking Janet! Tell us more about this older zon you've been eyeing up!!!!
  16. Hi Tas - I aree with Gracie about the points raised. Do you mean you have bread birds which don't develop down or feathers and remain bald? Adult birds retain their downy feathers as insulation under their "real" feathers - something which regenerates continually - birds always have the downy feathers too - can you clarify further what you mean in order that your question can be fully answered
  17. Just checked your profile as it doesn't say where you live - but alas, you live in the states (I'm in the UK)! I'm sure someone will jump in soon though
  18. I apologise on behalf of the UK for Simon Cowell, especially for Piers Morgan and definitely for Victoria Beckham - but hey - why didn't this guy appear in front of all three?????
  19. Right Jay! As you know, I don't own an Amazon, but I LOVE this room and LOVE finding out about everything to do with them. So, from this moment forward, I am nominating myself as "Unofficial Amazon Room Moderator" in your absence! I might not have your technical powers as a moderator, but by goodness, I'll definitely have the pulling power!! Watch me go!!!
  20. Dave007 wrote: You are quite correct Dave. Harvey's first attempt at Tolstoy's War & Peace was at about 9 months old - he's now 13 months and can recite it word for word. Well, that's an absolute lie - but something I'd like to think he does whilst I'm at work!! I think Dave is bang on. Some lucky folks have birds who chat away in front of them (loads are videoed on this forum) but some, like me, have a bird who doesn't show much speech in front of them (we hear the odd hello, but that's about it). He is fully integrated in the family, he's bright as a spark and imitates everything that makes a sound (seagulls, microwave, door chime, oven timer and his latest the blackbird), but the words don't come out - at the moment he's attempting to beat box! I'm with Dave in thinking that he can talk - but it is "Parrotese" and one day I may be lucky enough to hear him - just no time soon!!!!
  21. Why oh why oh why do the Americans have the best adverts in the world!! Ours are crap!! Dan, I peed myself laughing at that! The dog buzzing the guy was fab!! Karma for my daily giggle!!!
  22. Lyn I have laughed so hard and really can't say Happy Hatchday to Alfie until I pull myself together!!! Your shopping efforts for the presents are second to none, and then the breadsticks - yes, very difficult to tear the packet - I understand the pain endured to create such a buffet!!! Karma coming your way for best party of the year (so far)! Love it! HAPPY HATCHDAY ALFIE!!! Your little brother twice removed, x 3, round the back and up the street sends his love too!
  23. Harvey would run a mile if I stood him in a dish of water - not long enough to get a photo! Great picture - one day he may ask for the loofah!
  24. It doesn't matter how big or how small - these are our family members. I broke my heart when I had to help my tiel over rainbow bridge last year - and now I'm happy - he'll have made a little friend in Prince and Spiky will be showing him the way. I am so sorry to you both ~ you must have cores of steel to be coping with all this - you are both so strong, and so focused with all your problems at the moment. Don't worry about Prince - he's being looked after
  25. Oh that's awful Penny - shin splints are so painful. I am sure that the help from the physio should ease you back into it - but I agree, when I was running I wouldn't have thanked you for bike work. You'll just have to channel your thoughts to "there's light at the end of the tunnel" - four weeks isn't too long really. Don't be too sad
