1. I was chatting about Amazons with my husband yesterday and he reminded me that when we were on holiday in 2004 we had see some "Amazons" in the wild. There were two who regularly flew into the hotel to feed - and they sat around the trees for most of the day - the staff fed them veggies and fruit each day. It's taken me a while to find out what type they were - but by denomination I've found out they are Yellow Shouldered Amazons. I must add - they sat in the trees, whilst the biggest iguanas I have seen in my life roamed around the pool area! I'm going to try and dig some photos out - they must be archived on CD somewhere!
2. This is going to be like Big Brother - Day 1 in the Big Brother House - Jill can't stop thinking about food. She's drank five litres of water (don't worry, this is normal for me) and had her tea. She might have a whole apple for dessert! Nah - I'm okay - only joking! Mind you - all I've talked about all day is food!!! Addendum: I've dusted my treadmill - hey, one step at a time!!!!
3. Ah, bless him - I'm not surprised you couldn't resist helping him out. I'm sure he'll have his new fur coat in no time - and you're right - a year's time and there'll be no trace of his past life. I'm really looking forward to following his story
4. Oh my goodness Robin - Beau looks like a totally different bird! He is looking so pleased with himself - and you should be so proud of yourself too! Is that a flight feather coming in on the bottom photo? What an accomplishment! Thanks for the update Robin ~ he's beautiful.
5. I was just thinking about you yesterday and wondering how Tully was settling in. Great to hear things are going well. It's lovely to know that the vet says he's in good condition - which will only get better in your care. Can't wait to see some pictures (hint hint)!!!
6. OMG! I knew you liked a bit of a chant - but hey, Lyn! Super Dooper!!! I love "back to black" and you sing it beautifully! Alfie makes a lovely assistant too!!! More, more, more! We have a star in our midst!! Karma to you (and Dan for his discovery) for a great video xx

Post edited by: JillyBeanz, at: 2010/01/18 19:47
7. I love the fact he doesn't know you're filming and therefore you get the full repatoire! He is so clear it is unbelievable! I love how it ties in with your post about "crackers" - he asks for them a couple of times in this video. Thanks for sharing Dan - he's great
8. Hi Scotty - Welcome to our Family. My husband and I have both had fairly the same input with Harvey, and whilst I could do anything with Harvey he only "tolerates" my husband, as Luvparrots describes. The grey decides, unfortunately, and it is just something you have to accept if you arent the "chosen one". My husband has been working with Harvey since we got him (Harvey's 13 months old) and after the initial "baby phase" where he would go to anybody, he is now starting to step up and let my husband scratch him again (when he feels like it though!). Do you have a grey or thinking about getting one? We'd love to know more about you
9. Jay these are absolutely beautiful! Their colouring is so different to the other "blues" that you see in parrots. I am really enjoying the Amazon of the Week series - I hope there's hundreds more to see
10. Hi Tom ~ Glad you took the leap and got yourself a grey! You will find all the information you need to keep Ollie safe and sound and feed him the right things and find threads telling you to not do this, and not use that! It's a change in lifestyle!! I look forward to hearing more about you both! Once again, welcome!
11. Ooh, I can't wait until tomorrow! I take it we get another beautiful bird?
12. That was fab! I just love how he gets the timing just right - and how he sits there waiting for it to start! Thanks for sharing this video of Dayo - he's great!
13. I know what you mean about the kids being afraid ~ mine both won't try to handle Harvey anymore after receiving a couple of "bad nips". Macaws are so big too - so I do understand why your daughter is apprehensive. If you have the room - and you don't have another requirement for it - go for it - turn it into a bird room. This will stop the unneccessary worry that you are having now
14. It's right at the start ~ you are obviously viewing "last post first". So, you need to press "end". Hope this helps x
15. Cocoa will be having a ball flying all over - and it's a great advert for the Aviator! You are great at taking photos, and like Janet I am sooooo envious of that gorgeous sunshine!!!
16. ramsabi wrote: You are so right! The person who knocked my karma down had a minus score at one point - but obviously had a "insider" (I actually reckon he had multiple accounts) who knocked it back up daily. His posts were ridiculous - nobody ever gave him karma for anything interesting he had to say!! I agree with Dan about the "ways of the karma world". At this moment I have 302 karma. I have owned a grey for 9 months. This certainly does not make me a grey expert - I get all my information from here! I just like to think that I've been helpful and reliable and accurate in my guidance to others - and that's why I have been granted it. Put it to zero and I'm still the same person. I don't feel I have to tell people I'm giving them karma - I do it each day, every day, to show my appreciation for the member's advice or the care they have shown. I do sometimes tell them though, when things they are posting are worth the "outwards" praise. I do think that karma is a good idea - I do particularly smile inside when I see mine has increased - somebody likes me!!!!
17. I start mine tomorrow! I've gradually put on weight over the past two years and definitely need to lose some! Me and Michael are dieting together - no crisps, sweets, alcohol.......every night! I might even venture all the way to my treadmill (when I dust it)!!!!
18. Oh Lyndsey - I remember Macey's story so well. Macey is at peace now, although you aren't. You will always remember her - and nothing will ever replace her. It does get better in time - it was a year ago that I lost my 17 year old cockatiel. I still talk about him round here - as he was here for half of my life ~ which is a huge chunk of it, I'm sure you will agree. It does get easier, I promise. Could you offer another grey or another bird a home? This really worked with me bringing Harvey home - you hardly have time to dwell. You never forget them - they are not replaceable - but another would bring you so much joy
19. Janet he is absolutely gorgeous! I could just grab those little chubby cheeks and kiss him! He is as bright as a button - you must be so, so proud. He has the most gorgeous, huge eyes. He's definitely going to break some hearts - you better watch him ;)
20. Hi there and welcome to our family. Are you sure that he's actually eating the paper? Harvey will chew and shred paper, but doesn't actually swallow it. If you think that he is eating the paper, then you need to put a grate between the paper and your grey to stop him doing this. Like you say - they are focused, they will find another mission involving the paper - but you'll just have to hide it all until he forgets that this was his favourite past time.
21. Mmm - I don't believe in reincarnation either - but if I came back a grey and was lucky enough to be owned by me then that would definitely be a step up! On the twist - there's some forum members I certainly wouldn't want to be owned by!!!
22. Olivia is a really popular name here in the UK too. Now, Mackenzie in the UK is traditionally a boy's name. Isn't it so interesting how even names are looked at differently in different countries. I find it all fascinating.
23. How long is he to be on his own at your new house? Both my husband and I work full time and are regularly out of the house between 7am and 5pm five days a week. Harvey is fine - he is well socialised, he has the radio on for company, has plenty of toys and food in his cage and as soon as we are home he is out of his cage for 4+ hours. At the weekends he is rarely in his cage as we are home for most of it. He is missing you - he obviously isn't happy that you aren't there. It takes a very long time for a bird to accept someone else. Harvey chose me as "the one" when we got him and at one year old he is just now stepping up onto my husband's hand and lets him scratch him - although it's for very short periods of time. I say bring him to yours!
24. I know you say that you want a permanent stand - but unless you spend a great deal of time in the kitchen then I wouldn't bother. Harvey joins me, but I just pull out a kitchen chair or open a cupboard door and jam it with a bottle of juice (so it can't shut accidentally on his feet). You'll probably find anyway he'll fly in and land on you - you are far more interesting than any stand you can permanently put in there!!!
25. When I was reading this I was intrigued and going to google it to look for pictures ~ but I got to the bottom! Thanks Dan - they are just sooo sweet. lol Lyn - they do look like Furbies!!!
