Xtreme575 wrote: Harvey's 13 months old and he says the odd word, such as "hello" and "Michael" and "uh oh" when he's done something wrong - but his mimickery is fab - he does the microwave, the squeaky door to the kitchen, me blowing my nose and coughing (after an illness over Christmas). Steve - I was going to have to answer your question about where Harvey heard this with "I don't know" - his cage is too far into the house to hear what's going on in the garden, so it's been a bit of a mystery - until five minutes ago! I was in my dressing room getting ready to go out (as usual accompanied by the fiend) and I had the radio on. There was an advert for a local care home describing the rooms as bright and breezy, communal areas as welcoming - and beautiful gardens and surrounding area - ACCOMPANIED BY A BLACKBIRD CHIRP! At that point, perfectly reciprocating the blackbird call, Harvey answered!!! I leave the radio on for him during the day when we are at work - so this is where he's got it from - I had to see it to believe it!!! Lyn - I'm jacking in work and opening my new private eye agency - I'd be great at it!!

Christopher Columbus saw the birds during his explorations of the New World. In fact, he is said to have given them the name â€Amazonsâ€. He brought back parrots to Europe, where they became popular exotic pets.

Sleepy bird photo and foraging video of Sierra

Oh my goodness! It only took her 10 seconds - I hope the toy wasn't too expensive!!!! She's got that to a fine art!! Thanks for giving me a heads up of what not to buy to keep Harvey amused  I love your signature picture - absolutely gorgeous -
Hi AngelPixel - welcome to you and your flock! I look forward to hearing more about you, Jordan and Grace - and will try to take a peek at your photos (although I am unsure that I can - I don't have a FB account)!

Whilst we have had no Grey Forums.....

Acappella wrote: So, there is life outside!!! I agree with Janet - every other forum says they are the best - but I've visited a few and I've got to say they are wrong - this is the best. Not only for it's factual input and help - but also for the friendships that you form - we are from all different places around the world, from each continent and this is our common ground. There's no talk of religion, politics, colour etc etc - we just all share our love of our feathered mates -
He's only sweet as he's had a shower and the shock keeps him in trim for 10 minutes! I just caught a fragment of that!!!

Great shot - I've never managed it yet! I'm sure Willow will go from strength to strength now
-
Ha Ha! It was like mission impossible - I'm sure I should have been a spy - my diversion techniques are amazing!!!

Thanks everyone - a little bit progress has been made. It is only the door at the study that he has decided to sink his beak into - so when I'm on the forum is his favourite time. I've tried putting things over the door frame - he takes them off - he is fearless. So, now I have a load of foot toys, foraging things and other bits and pieces on my desk to the right of me - he seems to be quite happy - but does stray to bit the mouse, phone and keyboard!! At least he's not biting me and my woodwork!!!!

Harvey's been making some strange noises lately - but this one is the best mimicking he has done yet! It's a blackbird! Sorry about the quality - I had to lie on the living room floor, whilst he was drying after a shower and pretend I was texting - he just doesn't let me video him! The blackbird is at about 43 seconds. <br><br>Post edited by: JillyBeanz, at: 2010/01/23 19:01

Ah, she's gorgeous - so at ease with your son. Thanks for sharing this - Nilah seems to want to be in on the action!!!

What websites have you been visiting? I've been reading the news, ebay, little games - all things I never do - I come straight on here and straight on the forum!!! What's everyone else done in their real life whilst we've all been gone?
-
Well done Janet! That's a great idea to stave off the boredom - I bet you the time flew! I've decided the longer I sit here on an evening, the less likely I am to make that trip to the kitchen!! Just by sheer attendance here at GF I am losing weight

Oh the British are great at sports - we make the headlines for all the right reasons......

Make them smaller I used to have a tiel and would love to see yours!!

The last three days have been living hell with Harvey. He will not play with his toys, he will not play on his playstand, in fact he will not do anything that doesn't involve either biting me or biting whatever door frame he can get near. If he's not getting any attention he flies at me and now has the uncanny knack of grabbing one finger with his talons, whilst perching the other foot on my shoulder, thus if I try and release my finger his legs splay and he knows I'm not going to snap him in two. This move is done in about two seconds flat - and culminates in me receiving a good old beak dig somewhere around the fleshy finger region. It's like the Hokey Cokey in here at the minute - he's in, out, in, out of his cage - I'ts honestly like someone has flicked a switch overnight - he's never been like this before!!! My question is: WHEN DO THEY GROW OUT OF IT??? No, it's not really!! How long is a "time out" and do they really understand they are going to jail? Other than giving me some time without getting attacked, does it actually do anything for them? I'd be grateful for your psychological analysis of good old bird brain over there (in his cage at present)!!!

Hey all! The pedometer is a good idea - I might just surprise myself!! Howardine - you have new lifestyle modification buddies - we'll try and keep each other on track! Marguerite - keep up with the stretches - they'll do you good - so through this club we're helping with other health problems too! Even Bernie's in on the routine - even if he hasn't ridden to work since September (bad weather  Well, tomorrow is looming, but I have saved enough "syns" for some wine - I'll just have to stay away from those crisps and nuts!!! Keep up the good work everyone - and thanks for the encouragement Penny

So, the Slap Chop and Shark Steam Mop are my new best friends since becoming a parront! Ha Ha Ha! The Slap Chop! Great name - I know what you mean - but I'm sure the name isn't as exciting as that here in the UK!!! I'm lazy - I buy my veg ready chopped!!! My new best friends when I first got Harvey were my hand held Dyson and my kitchen towel to mop up poop!

Ha Ha! Dan - funnily enough - Winston Churchill himself is still alive and works in the chip shop, round the corner from my auntie in North Shields, Tyne & Wear, England (and his co-worker is Elvis Presley)! From this forum you're right Ramsabi - Sheila's Blue is in his 40s - the oldest anyone on our forum has mentioned in my time here. My presumption about the older greys is that people who have had them years and years don't join forums and don't talk about their birds ~ they've just become a fitting in these people's lives. I'm really interested in this topic though - and hope we uncover some "elderly" relatives.

That close up of Sachi is gorgeous - what lovely colours! Those toys look fab!

 I asked this the other day! I wonder though Janet - would you prefer to own your sweet little TAG, my swine of a CAG or a dodgy coloured RAG?
-
Everyone reads intently about how CAGs/TAG and the ages they reach in both the wild and in captivity, but generally when people discuss them on forums etc they are all relatively young - nobody seems to have an "old" CAG or TAG. With reports that they reach between 30 and 60 does anyone have or know anyone who has CAGs/TAGs between these ages (or older)? When I was looking around the internet for information about ages etc I came across a story about a guy that owned an 86 year old CAG - it was bought from Harrods, London, and was passed through the family on the death of each owner. She laid for the first time at 44 years old,and made the sound of bombs coming down as she was kept in London during world war 2! I know this is an astonishing age - but where are the "older" parrots?

4 (or more) things to always do for your fid(s)...
JillyBeanz replied to CountessKali's topic in Off-Topic Discussions
You are so right! If only everyone who took on any pet of any sorts had to sign a legal binding contract when getting one - these would be the top 4 necessities. Karma to you for such simple, but such important statements -
Good lass! I've stuck to my lifestyle modification food lessening effort now for three whole days! I have not strayed! Haven't done any exercise today - other than walk a million miles round work (it's a big place!!). Do you think this counts? Keep up the good work - come on Janet - show us a picture in your lycra!

OMG! If I even touch Harvey's tail he turns round like a flash and tries to bite you! What a great picture!
