We would prefer you scarcely, but healthily! Don't you worry about not being around as much - we certainly wouldn't forget you Howardine ~ just come a knocking when you can
-
Goodness me - I have enough dishes to clean with ONE BIRD - these birdies eat better and healthier than most humans!!! Love the picture of the peanut butter!! Yummy
-
Good to hear the twins are doing well - but definitely watch out for that over heating. They are too small to soak up much sun - I only had Harvey out for 20 minutes today (in the shade) and I could tell he was uncomfortable and took him in. Can't wait for the next installment

Aloe vera juice is available in all health shops and all bigger Asda's - not sure about the other supermarkets though, but it's about £10 a litre. I know it sounds a lot - but it does go a long way if you dilute it
-
Yeah! Nearly there - just South a bit after the North Pole!!!
-
What a prize muppet!! It was sounding like a great run out too!! Perhaps next time leave the technology to the 10 year olds!!

Unfortunately, clearly tuna isn't brimming around the shores of the UK - so we have to have it overly salted, or overly oiled! Packed in spring water must retain the tuna's taste much better! I don't think it's an option here though
-
Ha Ha Ha !! Oh, his little back pack is soooo cute! Being Japan, I wonder if it's a "robot penguin"!!! Thanks for this Dan!
-
Ah, bless her - that is just so cute! She's definitely enjoying "peek a boo" - the flood gates have now opened - you'll definitely get more soon!! Watch your Ps & Qs from now on!!!

They certainly can have fish - but I wouldn't give tinned tuna, usually due to the fact that it's preserved in brine (salty water) - but any fresh tuna is fine. If you added mayonnaise to your tuna pasta though, this is a no, no as the mayonnaise is made with raw eggs, which mustn't be fed to our greys. Other than the seven most deadly items to a grey: * Chocolate * Alcohol * Seeds of any fruit * Raw meat * Uncooked eggs * Any food that may have mold or may have spoiled (including seeds) Most of what we eat can be consumed by our greys - but just as certain items are "bad" for humans, they are also "bad" for our birds. Remember - they only weigh a pound or so, and therefore levels of salt and sugar which aren't good for humans, are distinctly bad for our greys. Remember - everything safe in moderation - and your grey will have a healthy, balanced diet.

It has been really warm here in the UK today (yes, shock horror) and we've had Harvey in the garden for six hours (in the shade). His feet are BOILING!!! They are so warm - but his beak matches too. I've made sure that he is highly hydrated by offering him ice cubes - he finds these a novelty and doesn't often drink when he's outside in his cage - so the ice cubes hit the spot. It's not nearly 10pm and he's flat out - he's in his cage and absolutely statue like - I've just covered him - I love fresh air!! Let's hope there is more to come! On the cold note - I noticed during our coldest weather how cold his feet were, and was quite shocked when I picked him up in the morning

Thank god I'm not American! I'm planning to stick around and annoy people way past 75!!! I am 35 years old and realise that Harvey will probably outlive me (I try my best to give him the best health and happiness afforded to him) and also have a problem - I am sure the kids don't want him. Although he is only 17 months old and the kids are 16 and 18, Harvey hasn't bonded with either. He will happily "sit" on them (as he does with everybody in the world) but as soon as they try and touch him he will bite! I understand why the kids haven't formed a bond with them - they have a life outside of the house - not as much contact etc, but I seriously don't think that they would have him, should the inevitable occur. I am actually pinning hopes on my 2 year old niece. At the moment Eva is fixated with Harvey. It's her first question about him when I see her, and when she fivists it is her first question about where he is and what he is doing! She isn't bothered about anything else!!! Brilliant post Jay - absolutely highlights the position we all hold as "caretakers" of our greys (and other long living parrots). Thank you for this "wake up call"

Whoops!! My sincere apologies to dr starr!!

Ha Ha! Let's set up a bank account for donations - then Spock can start to "tweet" !!1 :)
-
Didn't understand a word of it - but I think that PVC is okay!!!! :)

OMG!! They are sooooooooo cute! Not only are Jay & Maggie offering their parenting skills, they are also "technical support" too!!! Thank you all so much (especially to you Tanya) for letting these kind people from our family help you, and introduce us to the terrible two! Never mind Arnold and Davito - more like two of the little piggies! Check those crops!!!
-
They're under Phoebe (tanya) babies.

Another beautiful picture, accompanied by a fabulous description. You continue to amaze me with the array of Amazons and the information available! Looking forward to the next one!!

That's what this great thread is all about!!! Stories such as this one are inspirational and I admire the bravery borne by the survivor (namely you in this case). Cardiac surgery wasn't as common in 1979 as it is nowadays, indeed it was only 11 years earlier the first transplant was carried out. You were so young to go through such a radical procedure - but we are all in agreement that Dr Starr and Mr Edwards have gifted us with such a great friend. Both chaps are now long gone, but their pioneering design and surgery have gifted thousands upon thousands with the gift of life

Ha Ha! I loved the bit after her preen where she did a "forward roll" over the toy! Hilarious - she just rolled with it! That's a great hanging toy ~ I wish we could get such cool stuff over here!! I love Emma!!! Thanks for sharing this Adina - she's just sooooo cute!!! (oh and of course does the usual stage dive at the end)!!!
-
I'll come and babysit the minute they are weaned! I can't be getting up during the night - someone as beautiful as me needs their beauty sleep, just for the upkeep you understand!!! Can't wait to see some photos though Tanya - keep up the good work
-
Why haven't I got a bird that does this!!! I reckon if I gave him the chance Harvey would stay out forever! I want one too!!!
-
Great - thanks for the update Jay ~ have checked straight in this morning to see how they are doing
