  1. Ha Ha! The holidays that you lot get!!! That parrot of yours will think he's got a full time parront!!! Like the others have said - they are fine when you leave them - I work full time too and leave the house at 06.15am and don't return until 16.00 - Harvey's never plucked or shown any signs of distress - I think he quite enjoys the peace (oh and the oldies on Smooth radio)!! Well done for researching Clare - you might find it's time to embrace a grey sooner than you think!
  2. Ah, never mind Brittany - your skin is nothing without the odd lump out here and there! I certainly couldn't model nail varnish or the likes, the scratches and "nip" marks wouldn't look too attractive in Vogue! We all go though it (some more than others) - but it's what keeps us together!!
  3. Centigrade Penny! We work in old money here in the UK - none of this Farenheit malarky!! 24 degrees centigrade is equal to 75.2 Farenheit! So, this is about as warm as it gets!!!
  4. Over the last few weeks it seems that there is an abundance of newbies hand raising chicks, with little (or indeed no) experience whatsoever. From the outset I wish to point out - I couldn't do this. I want to thank the members of this forum who have dedicated their time, effort, love and understanding in nurturing and ushering these parronts into giving their chicks the best chance of life. Over the last two weeks we have had two complete parallels to contemplate. Both have involved people with no experience and both have been offered the unreserved love and attention of which they requested - it is just unfortunate that time and effort has been wasted by our experienced breeders and rearers on one of our "members". I would like to openly thank these members (I am not adding any names - we all know, and they know, who they are) for the compassion and knowledge they have extended in times of need. So, from the bottom of my heart (and I'm sure I speak for us all) ~ thank you, you are such fabulous, fabulous people xxxx
  5. Tanya, I just want to say that I absolutely admire your defiance in the rearing of these babies. You realise how important the commitment is that you have made, but most importantly you have made some friends for life! The "forum twins" I fear would have been nothing without the support of our fantastic, experienced, caring, loving, dedicated (the list goes on) members - and just shows what an important part they can play in such delicate situations. Keep up the good work
  6. Ha Ha! I put him in his cage and went into the garden - I could hear him contact calling the whole time I was out there, so I thought - what the heck, I'll try again! So, I came in and put the harness on! I've just brought him in - it's 5.50pm here in the UK and it's just starting to get a little bit cold and windy (I live on the North East coast - not known for it's spectacular weather)!!! What's with this flipping bird! Hormones - he mightn't be DNAd male - but all the pointers are there.........
  7. Right! I hate him again!!! The weather has been lovely for the last 3 - 4 days here and I have tried with all my might to try and get him into his harness - to absolutely no avail - I'm back to square one again! I've been trying two or three times a week and up until two weeks ago he was accepting it. Nothing has happened to turn him against the harness, but he will not tolerate it again I've just been out in the garden for a coffee and he's had to go in his cage Hopefully the reality will hit him soon!!!
  8. Ha Ha! Sounds hilarious - Francis is obviously the adventurous type!! I agree - video evidence!!
  9. What great photos! Salsa is devouring that toast! I love the middle one - the look says it all!!!
  10. Ah, bless them!! I love that one of poor bedraggled Argyle!! Great pictures Julie - let's hope the weather lasts!!!
  11. Oh my goodness! Now we shalt have to start bowing and tipping our brow to you! What excellent news Bernie - can't wait to see the pictures. Very deserved!!
  12. We've started to overlook the "reputation" button! I like nothing better than reading what others think about me (negatively or otherwise)! Please continue to press your reputation button - I'm an offender too - but have just found comments made by others about me and it's brought a little smile to my Friday morning!! Jill x
  13. Hi there - you can pick the option to "subscribe" to the thread. When you post, "go advanced" - scroll down to "additional options". You will find the "Subscriptions" section. Tick the little box and choose how you would like to be notified of new posts and submit your reply. Bob's your uncle! Also, in settings, there is a "subscriptions" section where you can view your subscribed threads too. If I were you, I would subscribe to ALL of mine, because I am just so damn interesting Ha Ha, only joking! Hope this helps xx
  14. Jess, she'll be fine - don't worry about it. I think probably the best advice here is what happens in our house. If my hubby gets in a position with Harvey that he is uncomfortable with, or if Harvey is refusing to step up and attacking him, he calls for me to come and retrieve Harvey. This is usually from upstairs when Harvey has followed him and my husband is ready to come down (but Harvey has never worked out how to come down the stairs - no proble getting up them though) - so I just trot on up and bring him down (Harvey, not Michael)!!! Your hubby is frustrated of his relationship with Yoshi - and by displaying it to Yoshi it's never going to get better, so just ask him to "kindly" butt out!
  15. You've hit the nail on the head! Different countries, different ways. SA doesn't embrace captive birds with flight, but someone has to change the fashion and change the views of the people - you can be that ambassador! That's what this forum is about - different views, different ideas and people like yourself (there aren't many active members on this forum from SA) who can share their lives with us. All you have to think is "it's nice to be different"!!! Keep the updates coming - can't wait to hear how things are going x
  16. For goodness sake - forget Britain's Most Wanted list - how scared are the criminals in this country: http://web.orange.co.uk/article/quirkies/Police_unveil_pedal_powered_patrol_car Goodness, gracious me!
  17. Jay - thank you so so much for your support to these babies. You are like a virtual "daddy". I hope when they are big and strong - one is aptly named "Jay"!
  18. Did this boat ever, ever get a name!!! I can't remember the launching party (or was I just not invited)!!!
  19. Look Enrebie - you are from ENGLAND. The spoken language here is ENGLISH (yeah - these American's can't spell - but we understand why they miss letters out of words ). Get yourself a dictionary - the poor folk of the world can't understand you!!!
  20. Hear Hear (although I would still love to be proved out and out wrong by Laker)!!!
  21. Ha Ha! I'll go one further - IT'S A DEAD PARROT!! I love Monty Python!!! (don't jump on me for laughing at a dead parrot - you really have to see it before you understand)!!!! What a great thread Lauren - thanks for starting it. I look forward to yours (and other's) findings
  22. She's having a great time of it there! Good to hear her visit to the vets went without a hiccup!
  23. Thanks for the update! See - you seem really happy that he's following you everywhere - would you like to put a stop to that!! No way - you'll miss him following you everywhere, appearing out of nowhere!! You say that you are going on the advice of the vet - unless the vet is doing it for free I can't see at all what is to gain from the vet clipping his wings I'm sure it'll cost quite a bit!! You're right about striking a nerve though - you probably have entered the most heated discussions regarding any type of bird, and as it's been reiterated many are very, very passionate about this (as I've said, I'm one of them). My thoughts on this are simple: If you buy a bird and clip it's wings, you may as well buy a guinea pig or rabbit! Strange comparison, but very true! Thanks again for the update - he sounds like a proper sweetie x
  24. Hi Heather - they are stubborn little so and sos! Seed to them is junkfood heaven - put it this way - offer your human child a BigMac or a plate of salad and I'm guessing you'll be left with the lettuce leaves!! You have to be sneaky and make them more attractive to Marley. Chop them up small (to hide them amongst stuff) or get yourself a fruit/veg skewer to go in his cage (Harvey eats most of his veg this way). Make it interesting for him - add some spices (chilli/cinnammon/ginger) to make it more palatable. Don't worry - we all go through it!!
  25. Ha Ha - perhaps at 21 - but now I am not prepared to part with what I've paid for!!!! Oh, and "When I was 21, it was a very good......." Frank Sinatra"!! Love it (see, 35 and old before my time)!!!!!
