I'd be inclined to agree with Judy on this one, I think pancake mixes contain eggs - a definate nono.

LOL I think they mean pale and skinny Jill. Actually I'm not making excuses for myself as I don't really feel the need to but I am prone to anemia, if I did give up meat I think it might become more of a problem but you are quite right Jill, it's personal choice.

Really Jill, hmmm I've seen pics of Harvey with chicken legs, do you just cook for him then or does hubby indulge? It seems cruel to eat meat I know but man has eaten meat since their beginning and we have teeth designed for ripping the stuff apart.

Paco is still really young for talking, it's usually after they are 12 months old and beyond when they really get going. The lack of time you have been "talk training" will also be a factor for Paco not having learnt new words but unfortunately there are parts of our lives that don't include the birds it's just a fact and can't be helped. You will get your time with Paco and very soon you will be wondering what you were so concerned about.

It's been soooo quiet on here recently. I know there have been problems with the site but it seems ok today, still it seems very quiet to me. As for me I'm having problems with the site loading but I think this is an issue with my internet provider probably due to the fact that hubby has informed them we are changing to another company (I will be offline for 24-48 hrs from Monday - I think. OMG what will I do???) Anyway just posting this to try and start some sort of discussion lol. Happy Easter Sunday tomorrow everyone!!

This is an excellent topic and one I feel we will never all agree on because it is basically down to personal feelings and the choice of our birds. I'm not a big fan of pellets tbh and although I know they are recommended by many vets they are an atificial food. They certainly don't look very appatising particularly the Harrisons which are a very bland colour. Regardless of my opinion I do offer pellets as part of my birds' diets, they are mostly rejected. I have now tried Harrisons and Zupreem and my birds were not keen on either. I have now ordered the pretty bird as it looks colourful and I understand it "smells yummy" :lol: you can but try these things. You have to wonder though how much of the hype surrounding pellets is down to the maufacturers in the same way drug companies push their products on our GP's. Regarding suppliments, I think birds kept in the UK and other countries that lack a lot of natural sunlight (especially in winter) do benefit from a vitamin D suppliment, this is probably not needed in sunnier climes. A small amount of calcium can also be benficial. The trouble is some people over dose on these things. Just my opinion.

I know what you mean, I also feel guilty about my two having been cooped up in the house all winter, it has been a long cold one this year and I feel they do need some fresh air.

You don't have to be crazy to own a parrot but it certainly helps if you are. :whistle:

All joking aside here. I beg to differ that; a, greys look like pidgeons - maybe to a child or the simple-minded. An african grey looks NOTHING like a pidgeon. I've never seen a pidgeon that has a red tail, a hooked beak or that can talk for that matter. There are many other more subtle differences. b,that they are more unattractive when they are older. As Beau has been shedding his baby tail feathers, the new ones are more red and vibrant than the old ones.

I have had boquets in the house including stargazers (which I adore for their scent) and it's a safe natural air freshener although I don't have them too close to the fids and as Judy says don't let the birds make any kind of contact with them.

The shaft will molt itself out Jill and you probably did the right thing helping nature along, if Harvey had caught it in something the results could have been far worse.

Argyle (usually when basking in the sun) puts his little talon up human-like as if propping his "chin", this sounds similar to what Jill describes Harvey doing. With Beau it's slightly diffenent in that the talon is brought outwards and Beau appears to be chattering to it or using it in an expressive way. Either way it's too darned cute!
