God love him! I cannot wait to see that baby getting his feathers back in with your love and care.
-
LOL that is too funny! Maybe that is something they just naturally do. I could picture Shaka Zulu saying "Marcoooooooooooo" lol He likes to draw everything out. Did you guys hear him saying Shakalaka? lol
-
hehe thanks, It was me whistling to him from the other room. Sometimes he does half of a whistle and I do the other half etc... He likes that hehe Come here is his favorite saying lol The second I walk towards towards the door he starts saying "come here come here" lol That is why I left the camera rolling and left the room hoping to catch a "come here" on tape.

Thank you

Here is a short video clip of shaka zulu talking. I am responding to him some from the other room but you can clearly hear him. It is not a ton of talking but it is some. He always talks the most when I leave the room to try and get me to come back...lol At the very end you will hear him say come here twice. Whats so funny about that is that he put his own tone to it. He learned come here from me asking him to come here but he put his own twist on it lol

Sinbad I was so hoping to hear you would have the baby back by now. I am still praying for you and your baby every day. Like everyone said be careful of that weirdo that asked for more reward money. Does your baby have a smaller playstand or travel cage or anything smaller that you could get over to your work? It sounds like he came back looking so that is a really good thing, I am sure he will come back again. I will check on any updates tomorrow.

i adopted a cag and i have some questions
Summerc25 replied to Joerawlings23's topic in The GREY Lounge
Karma to you for adopting that poor baby. It makes me so freaking mad when I see that someone got a grey and then tired of it and shoved it out in a shed or garage. It is very good that he is already taking food from your hand. The wing clipping thing, there is alot of controversy about. My birds wings are clipped because his previous owner always kept them clipped and when I tried letting them grow out he seemed to not know how to fly or control his flight. The vet said it was probably best that we clipped them because he kept flying into walls and other things. we were afraid he would get hurt. With a bird who has not been having his wings clipped, I am afraid that might change his personality a bit and make him very unhappy. I still want to let my bird grow his wings out. I have only had the vet clip them once and I am going to try not to do it again. I really think it is so sad to clip them. If you try to get him to step up to your hand instead of the dowel what does he do? Bite? One thing I learned very quickly when shaka zulu bit me was not to let him know I was afraid of the next bite. I was afraid at first and he totally knew it and he had control until I just let him bite and acted like it did not hurt then he stopped with the biting. He has bitten me a few times but he does not bite alot. One thing he loves, and I think most greys love, is having their head rubbed and scratched. Maybe that would help getting him used to allowing you to touch him more. The cheese is not very good for them, I think they have problems digesting dairy products. I think one tiny bit here and there may be ok but not alot. My bird does that with his eyes if I give him something new that he has not tried before. It usually seems to mean they are freaked out when they do the eye pinning thing. He was probably just freaked out by the cantelope and stuff. If she had him living in a shed, I doubt he was given a lot of fresh food. As far as the bonding games I don't know on that. Sorry I cannot help more. I will be glad to help anyway I can. What type of food is he eating? -
You know what is sad to me, that she doesn't talk for very long when you are not in the room. That kind of makes me think that in her old homes maybe no one came when she kept talking so she gives up quickly. My sweet bird talks his head off when I am not in the room including yelling 'come here' in a loud, whiny voice lol What is so funny is he creates his own tones that he says things in. I tell him come here in a soft voice instead of saying step up. That is where he learned the come here, but he put it into a whiny yell to get my attention. He says that and calls my name etc until I come. He knows I will come so he keeps calling me. Also, It just takes them a few days to settle in. I think most greys are very frightened by change and new things. I know Shakazulu thinks that anything knew is just going to kill him or something. He freaked out when he saw the Christmas Tree lol Just keep giving her love and attention. When she talks and you are not in the room, go in the room and talk to her. That will let her know that she is getting your attention and she will probably be like mine and talk constantly. Also, he has a tv in his room so when I am at work he watches tv all day and he has learned some new words and things that way. Keep us posted Summer

Hi crossfit- I am so sorry to hear that this happened to you with a rehome. I am sure a baby would be wonderful too but don't totally give up on the rehomes. There are a lot of adult birds that desperately need a home with someone who will love them and take care of them. My baby turned 5 in Sept and I got him in April. I was very lucky that his previous mom did not change her mind. I got very nervous and thought she was going to because she was late bringing him to me and I know she really loved him and just didn't have the time to spend with him. I still keep in touch with her and let her know how Shakazulu is doing and send her photos. If she ever wanted him back though we would have a problem, because this bird adores me and I adore him...lol We actually wrote a contract up when I bought him. In the contract we included a passage that if I ever chose to get rid of him, that she wanted him back. I will never choose to but it was nice to me that she would want him back. Maybe you could do a contract if you chose to try another rehome situation. Good luck and hope you have a new baby soon

OMG that is horrible Poor doggie and poor, poor baby bird that is trapped off with these *****@#! If someone steals Shakazulu ever they better hope the police find them before I do. That just makes me so angry. I really hate thieves, and these are the worst kind, murderers too since they killed the dog. Will pray these people find their bird and those monsters are caught!

Aww I am so so sorry to read this I will be praying for you and little Sindbad. The advice people gave you was great as far as all I have read. Also offer a reward. People are more apt to return him then. Also call any vets offices in the surrounding areas and pet stores and ask if you can place posters there. Other bird lovers might try to keep a close eye out for him when they know he is missing. There are also certain times of days that he may be more active, I think early morning when the sun is coming up and dusk. Someone correct me if I am wrong. Look all around in trees anywhere around there too. *hugs* Hope you find your baby soon!!!

I am sure this topic has been addressed, I found some about it. I am looking at new houses and my favorite house so far has gas heat. I am not sure if it is propane or natural gas or what. If something happened to my grey I would absolutely die. If I find out that this is dangerous for him I will strike the house from my list. It is the only house so far that fits my families needs and I really love the house. Does anyone here have gas heat and know if this is safe for birds as long as I have Carbon Monoxide detectors and things like that? I just do not want to chance it. This bird is like my child and I adore him. I am always really paranoid and everything that 'might' be dangerous to him is just not allowed in my house lol Hairspray even has to be sprayed outside just as a precaution. What do you all think about Gas heat and stoves? The gas stove could be changed out for electric but the heating system could not. Also, just to be safe with all appliances, I would need to run them for a while before letting him be in the house with them running right? Does anyone have gas heat and think this is ok to have a parrot in a house with gas heat? Does anyone think it is just a really horrible and unsafe environment for a parrot? Thanks in advance! Summer and Shakazulu

Thank you all for the responses. Yesterday was a good day but today he is very aggressive again. I guess I will just limit trying to hold him for a few weeks.
-
Thank you for the response hill. I hope the situation is the same with my bird. He is normally a sweet little cuddle bug that is why I was so upset. I was also worried about him getting any of my saliva in his beak because he grabbed my whole lip and got his beak in there good to bite lol
-
Does molting make an african grey more aggressive? My bird is 5 and I think he is molting because he has had some feathers falling out, alot more than normal and I can feel the little pin feathers all over his head. He is normally very loving and sweet but he has made me cry twice today. The first time he bit my lip and the second time he bit my hand so hard I hard crunching and he drew blood. I am more upset because this is so out of character for him than I am that it hurt. I am worried about why he is being so agressive. Last night he was trying to regurgitate for me and now he hates me. Any ideas?

Beautiful Cag My Cag also likes to tear food from my hands and throw it away...lol Mine tends not to like very cold things but honestly he throws the food away numerous times before I can get him to try something new. I try eating a piece myself too but if it is something he has not tried before, he thinks it is trying to attack him I think. If you can hold on to the piece of pear long enough to get him to actually taste it, he will probably eat it. It takes perseverance that is for sure

I hope your little Macey is doing better!! I will be thinking about oguys and praying for you!

Hi how big is his cage? Does he get a lot of out of cage time? My bird is very angry and bites me if I am gone from the house leaving him in his cage too long and that is the only time he bites. Also, are you giving him clear night time with no lights on for at least 8-10 hours? My avian vet said if they do not have clear "night" and "day", meaning lights out at night, that it can cause a lot of mental issues, screaming and biting. Just wanted to check those few things.. Hope Abula is doing better.
