She is adorable and I am so glad to see you are keeping your dads bird and love her. The cage thing, just what likajetta said. Eventually she will go into a new cage on her own. I am glad you are getting her a new cage as that one looks to be a bit small in the pictures. The regurgitation, I don;t think there is any particular response you should give her. My bird does that to me all the time but luckily nothing ever comes up so I just let him try. The thing with her lowering her wings on your hand sounds to me like she might be claiming you as her mate. Shaka zulu does that to me and lowers his wings and I read that is what it is. Someone correct me if I am wrong. About the dry skin, she needs to have a shower or bath a few times a week in the morning so she can dry without getting cold. Search in the forums for some threads on baths and showers. Most people use aloe just make sure search that first and read about the correct kind to get too, nothing with any kind of chemicals mixed in. As far as the nail clippings go, I would take her to the avian vet and have that done if you can and just get a wellness check up maybe if she has not had one in a few years. That might also make her think you are saving her from the evil vet that trimmed her nails hehe My bird always acts like the vet is the devil, even though he is very nice lol He is always very lovey dovey after the vet...lol Hope that helps!

I am so sorry for your loss Adelt You did everything you could for him and he knows that.

Okay I do not get bitten that often but I have had two bites tonight and one broke the skin. It sdeems like whenever he is in the mood to bite I get several in a row, then he won't bite me again for months. Wow Luv you are so lucky! lol Shaka zulu bites me, draws blood then wants to be kissy kissy. I don't even know what made him bite me both times tonight. Usually I know I moved too fast to scratch his head or something and scared him. I have some on both hands now lol I pick him up with both if he is in a biting mood, I alternate so one poor hand does not get all the beak lol Like tonight I got one on each hand.

Does anyone know what a crimson winged parrot is? When I google it, it seems it is an Australian bird that is not widely kept as a pet. I was on Craigslist the other day and someone near me is selling off all of their birds. I think it must be an aviary or something going out of business. They had a canary which I e-mailed about for my sis, she loves canaries. She has one but wanted to get one more. Since I was emailing I asked him about the crimson winged parrot because in the ad he said it plucks its chest so I felt bad for it. If it is the Australian bird I read about it says they love to fly so maybe that is why he plucks, probably crammed up in a little cage. I just wondered if there is any other kind of crimson winged parrot that it might be. I have just never seen any of these for sale or anything.

Speaking of getting bitten LOL My usually loveable, cuddle bug just bit the @$!% out of my finger for no apparent reason lol He was holding my finger with his claws and then while he held my finger so I could not get away easily he chomped down on it Ah well I guess I could get bitten worse. I thought I had kind of gotten use to the pain if his bites but I did try and yank my hand back that time because he got the end of my finger and that hurt!...lol Then he wanted to give me a kiss two seconds later. He gets angry when I am at the computer I think, I cannot scratch his head enough when I am typing.

nemo is a lovely little bird. It makes me so mad that those "people" if you can call them that, just dumped the birds outside of the petstore. I am sure he is a very happy little guy now Karma to you for giving him a new home and making it a special Christmas for him!

I know it is hard to say which is more painful the bite itself or the hurt feelings because of the bite. I think they are right about the AV. The wing clipping thing might help, I know that is a tough decision for you to make You have definitely not failed with him. I see from all your posts that you are a good parront. He is just being a difficult 2-3 year(emotionally) old now hehe Do you know how his life was with his first owner? Maybe it is still baggage from that. edited to say: and thank you about the user name btw, my name really is Summer hehe<br><br>Post edited by: Summerc25, at: 2010/01/12 03:42

Ugh that makes me sick I wish I could get him. That is so freakin mean that they said they don't like him etc. And dehydrated??? helllllo. That is BAD. I will say this for my petland, I hate that they can sell live animals too, but at least the employees seem to love the animals. Maybe you could call Petlands corporate headqarters. I called on a petstore one day and the district manager called me and she seemed genuinely upset by what I told her and promised me that I would never see it in that condition again. Tell them if they give the bird to one of us we won't report them  just kidding, I wish it worked that way. But seriously you might call them. Then again, I am always afraid they will take it out on the bird. Maybe we could try and get the money up so you could get him?

Immigrating with an African Grey?
Summerc25 replied to Jonno2343's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
Hi Jonno Welcome to the forum! Glad to see you care about the birds and are going to wait to get one when you get to the states. You can rehome a bird and probably find one for a lot less money. They are on Craigs list and Kijiji all day long for $500-$1000. Babies are a little pricier, at least they were back when I was looking. I just happened to decide to adopt an adult and I could not be happier with that decision. I hope you enjoy the site and stick around We will want pictures once you get moved here and get you grey! -
Welcome to the forum Glad to have you and Rustina here! Love the story of her name btw. I think you will prove to be a very valuable 'advice giver' here with 13 years of experience with a grey

Okay here is a good one, this one even talks about yankee candles and says they may be less dangerous because they use natural oils. http://www.greyforums.net/forums/the-grey-lounge/38913-question-on-candles-and-such.html#39104

Here is an earlier thread on this site about it. http://www.greyforums.net/forums/the-grey-lounge/170645-scented-candles.html#170648

Search at the top of the forum for candles and see what other posts say. I am sure I have read that but I don't want to be telling you something wrong. It really could be that it is bothering him even if they are not strong enough to kill. It could be that they are bothering him enough to make him chew and he doesn't know how to tell you. If I find some more info I will post you the link. I know I read a post somewhere on here once about safe candles to use. I am going to search it too because I really want to be able to burn some type of candles again but if I can't I can't. I definitely won't chance it.
-
Hi Arlene, I am not sure about it causing them to pluck but it is my understanding that burning regular candles can kill a grey. Someone correct me if I am wrong because I have been terrified to burn a candle since I got mine lol Did he just start to pluck? Are there any other changes that have happened that may have upset him?
-
Awww okay well I hope she is doing well and will be back some day!

Hi Matt and welcome Glad to see you here researching before you get your baby. There are a lot of awesome and really knowledgeable people here who have been a great help to me!

Grumpy is a gorgeous grey! Ugh I have a cold too hehe I think with the weather lately we probably all do!lol Yes I always have to be very careful of that because Shaka zulu's natural reaction is to want what I have. Like if I try to give him something from a separate plate, he wants it from my plate. So I try to just keep it to the side away from my food. Tonight we had salad and I put lettuce, tomato, etc on a separate plate for him. He crunched on a bite for a minute then threw the lettuce in the floor lol I don't think he was a fan of lettuce lol
