Just wanted to let you guys that Rosie Toys has 4 toys on sale this week.{Feel-good-00020114} For US residents she will gladly ship your order by UPS from New York State when her husband goes there on the 16th of April. I am a long time customer at Rosie Toys and definitely recommend their toys for all parrots. She is located in Canada. Many of you have already seen videos and pictures of Emma and Sachi on their swings and toys. They are all handmade and of superior craftmanship. The site is only in french but on the home page there is a google translater. Jacqueline ships WORLDWIDE. If any of you would like to order anything, feel free to PM me. I will be glad to assist. I know her personally. Here are the toys that are on sale right now. On the next link are some of her FABULOUS swings. Here are 2 videos of my Emma. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8FA1f7DMoE http://www.lesjouetsrosie.com/jouetsrosie/index.html http://www.lesjouetsrosie.com/perchoirs/index2.html

Post edited by: lovethatgrey, at: 2010/04/07 15:42

Congratulations and what a cutie patootie! How lucky he is to be welcome in to a family that already loves him so much.{Feel-good-00020114}

Thanks guys!! The moment was definitely a "reactionary" one for me. Normally, I actually stop what I am doing and explain to Emma why I don't want her to do what ever she happens to be doing. Sometimes I even receive a bite in return because she's not in the mood for what I am proposing. :pinch: Perhaps she responded this way because it was out of my "norm"? I still can't believe I had that experience and look forward to many more special moments like it.

{Love-0002011E} Today Emma was hanging out in the kitchen with me while I was washing dishes. Her favourite spot is ON top of the fridge. She likes to pit patter about and recite every word she knows on top of there. :lol: All of a sudden for the first time ever, she decided to fly down and land on top of the closed garbage can. After she landed, I turn around to see her running her tongue along the lid.:unsure: :unsure: I was freaking out because I clean the lid on a regular basis with lysol cleaning disinfectant and the last thing I want is for her to be doing what she was doing.:huh: What did I do? I reacted in a way that was uncharacteristic of me. I snapped sharply at her to get off and shooed her away with my elbow since my hands were full of soapy water. She got startled by my reaction and flew off to her cage. When she landed she said out loud "I'm Sorry, I'm Sorry." I felt so bad when I heard her say those words. Of course I went to see her. She bent her head for a scratchie and said "I'm sorry" again. I told all was forgiven and no need to apologize because I wasn't upset. I guess she has figured out what sorry means .. from the times I've said it to her in the past. Boy do I love my Emma! Can you imagine? She understands the word "Sorry".{Love-0002011E} Post edited by: lovethatgrey, at: 2010/04/05 01:43

Post edited by: lovethatgrey, at: 2010/04/05 01:44

Haha!! That's a funny one Judy! I used to chop all of this by hand but it took so long and made such a mess. I finally got smarter.:laugh: I make about 3 days worth and then on the 3rd day I make some more. It has made my life a lot easier and it is so much more enjoyable to prepare raw vegetables this way!

Sachi Loves Her Chopperstoys!!
lovethatgrey replied to lovethatgrey's topic in Homemade Toys & Playstands
Sachi seems to love all of these new toys. Emma is quite suspicious and has no comment.:blush: One of the benefits of having more than one parrot!!:lol: -
Thanks guys!!{Feel-good-00020114} I recommend everybirdy to purchase a nice inexpensive food processor. It's a great way to serve chopped up greens and carrots and it's always a tails up experience for both Emma and Sachi!!

Post edited by: lovethatgrey, at: 2010/04/04 20:40

These handmade toys arrived this week and my little girlie Sachi is so pleased with everything. Her two most favourite toys seem to be the Mosaic Madness and The Frayed Knot toy. The owner's name is Claudia and is very nice to deal with. {Feel-good-00020114} http://chopperstoys.com/

Post edited by: lovethatgrey, at: 2010/04/04 04:19

Emma's Wishing Paddy Toy by The Parrot Asylum
lovethatgrey replied to lovethatgrey's topic in Homemade Toys & Playstands
Thanks Judy! Unfortunately, I do think boredom does occur here once in a while.:blush: Especially when we're at work during the day. After Emma received The Alex Toy in december, I realized that I had to rethink the way I purchase toys for her. She was so busy, challenged and interested in that toy. This is how I discovered that she LOVES knots and little foot toys. Finally, this month I decided to contact Shyra to ask her to create a toy with similar qualities, but something that would last ALOT longer and be a bit more challenging.:lol: The Wishing Paddy has definitely delivered and Emma works on it regularly and daily. I will post a picture once Emma completely strips her Froggie of everthing.:laugh: I know this toy will be a regular in my home!!{Feel-good-00020114}

Post edited by: lovethatgrey, at: 2010/03/31 04:40 -

Yes.. I cried too even though I already knew the ending. :huh: For those who haven't already read the book. Here is my personal opinion about Alex and his life. Alex the african grey may have lived in a lab, but he had alot of contact and interactions throughout the day with many different kind of people. Much more than most "companion" parrots ever receive in "conventional" homes on a daily basis. Lots of people took care of him and enjoyed his company. He was quite the intelligent charmer and he thrived on the attention and often used this to his "own amusement" He was rarely alone except perhaps at bedtime. There was "work time" but there certainly was alot of "play and goofy" time. He was well treated and always had company, toys and stimulation. He was also well provided for and had excellent vet care. He was never neglected, ignored or mistreated. Yes, he was extremely intelligent and often became very bored, disinterested with the repetitions of the "training" trials, and sessions etc. He had no trouble letting everyone know when he was "done" either by voicing this or letting his opinion be known in a "non verbal" way. When he did... the trainings would stop. Yes, he was a "research" example and that is the reason why he was purchased but he was treated very respectfully. He wasn't treated like a "lab rat" at all. Just because he didn't live permanently in the "home of a family" does not make him unlucky. 31 years old is actually a very long time for a parrot in captivity to live. I do not think that there in any home or location in "captivity" that can provide the PERFECT conditions for any parrot, but I cannot say that Alex did not have a good and meaningful life while he was alive. I have alot more respect for Dr. Pepperberg, especially after having read "Alex and Me"{Feel-good-00020114} JMO

Post edited by: lovethatgrey, at: 2010/03/29 03:35

On second thought.. would one of the kind mods please change the Title to read DO NOT Feed raw Fava beans.. or whatever you feel is appropriate. Thanks in advance. Much appreciated!!
-
*******PLEASE DO NOT DO WHAT I have done in these 2 videos. I have since learned from VERY experienced parrot owners that Fava beans MUST be cooked before feeding to our Parrots otherwise it is a toxic bean to them!!************ I will be removing this video from Youtube as soon as I can because I do NOT want to steer any parront wrong!! I am so sorry. http://www.avianweb.com/toxicfoods.html

This toy is handmade, very cheery and so PRETTY. {Love-0002011E} Adorned with knots, cute beads, and adorable foot toys. It was meant for Sachi my pionus but it is quite a big size. Good toy for Large parrots who enjoy toys for medium and small sized parrot toys. Personally, it's my favourite. Sachi thinks it's very playworthy as well and Emma my african grey keeps thinking that it was meant for her as well!:blush: Thanks Shyra from The Parrot Asylum!! {Feel-good-00020114} http://www.parrotasylum.com/catalog/item/4927765/7802917.htm Post edited by: lovethatgrey, at: 2010/03/28 20:26

Post edited by: lovethatgrey, at: 2010/03/29 03:18

Emma loves taking a shower. I take her into the washroom and spray her with the shower head on a light setting.We do this about once every 8 days. It is only in the last few months that she will fluff her feathers up completely and lift spread her wings wide during shower time. Now I can spray her very well under her wingpits as well as her thighs! {Feel-good-000200BB}
