On Friday I had a day off from work. This gave me a chance to experience what goes on in the afternoons.:blush: Even if I happen to be home in the afternoon, I won't necessarily spend the whole time with my parrots. I will go to another room, close the door and do some work, take a nap, etc.. Yesterday was quite funny, I had read about Alex the Grey doing this with coffee mugs but had never seen this with Emma.{Feel-good-00020114} Yesterday she spent about 20 minutes sticking her head in and out of her food bowl and experimented with talking inside of it. I don't know when she discovered this but she has figured out that when she talks with her head shoved in her wet food bowl, she sounds differently. Yesterday she spent quite some time saying all kinds of nonsensical things in her bowl, then she'd come up for air to say a few more words, the she'd shove her head back in and repeat. One of these days I'd like to get that on video. Any of your parrots do something like this?

I purchased this book last year and it was very nice to get to know Dr. Pepperberg and Alex alot better. They had a very special relationship. It's a very nice book to read. {Feel-good-00020114} I'm wondering how many other african grey owners have read this book.

Haha!! {Feel-good-00020114} Judy, I used to have those but Emma and Sachi kept on removing them to start chewing on them like the earplugs were foot toys. I would say "Drop it" to them. So now they remove them, say "Drop it" and then fling them to the floor.

Just keep at it with alot of Enthusiasm!! Emma likes to say Where's My red Bumbum!!

Today!!{Feel-good-000200BB} My parrots are generally quite quiet. Can't complain about their noise level. My only concern is that sometimes they will take to screaming while they are perched on me and right beside my ear. It feels very painful sometimes. They do this at random moments and for different reasons. Sometimes it's because they see birds outside in the backyard and like to scream at them, they do this to contact call to each other etc. I never know when this is going to happen and finally decided that I was going to try to save my hearing while I still could. When I got home I let the both of them watch me stick them on my ears, I put Emma on my shoulder and said "Ok, go ahead and scream. Scream loud." There was no screaming today. I don't think they feel comfortable screaming while I have my earmuffs on. Do the rest of you use anything to protect your ears too?<br><br>Post edited by: lovethatgrey, at: 2010/03/21 21:48

I have been feeling very sick to my stomach in the last 48 hours and would just like to let all of you all know that this week I discovered with HORROR that one of MY photos of Emma has been posted on the Flying South Website without my consent. The way I had found out about this was through another parrot owner who had noticed the sale they were having. I just about jumped out of my skin when I saw Emma's picture because I have never had business dealings with this company and won't ever order from this site!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !! http://flyingsouth.com/theadventurepack.html'>http://flyingsouth.com/theadventurepack.html One of the great benefits of being on a forum is learning from other people's misfortunes and terrible experiences. I had read of too many nightmarish experiences of Adventure Packs that have never arrived and no email responses to the clients who have purchased. What bothers me most of all is that this is a company that I have never ordered from "specifically" due to the terrible experiences that I have read about. I am grateful to all of those people who took their time to share experiences which were very stressful and irritating. I know that if I had had the same experience, I would have been SO mad. I hate to think that others may have seen Emma's picture on the site, ordered the AP as well and perhaps are still dealing with the same miserable service. Jilly, she's african grey with part "turkey". I guess patience is a virtue when you have a parrot huh?

I wonder where that myth came from. Today I was speaking to someone who intends to purchase an african grey baby from a breeder. He mentioned that he wanted a "male" parrot because they make better talkers. I had completely forgotten about that misconception/myth. I sent him Emma's youtube channel link and he was somewhat flabbergasted. I must admit that when I first purchased Emma there was a wee part of me that hoped she'd be able to speak human language one day but I did not give it too much thought. Perhaps there was even a part of me that didn't expect she would speak at all because she wasn't a male parrot. I wonder where I received this misinformation.:blush: Anyone have similar opinions :pinch:

They are both great for parrots who LOVE KNOTS and who love little toy parts!! {Feel-good-00020114} For those of you who have never dealt with Parrot Asylum before, I'd like to just say that Shyra is warm, personable, very helpful and efficient. My client experience has been wonderful and the quality of the toys are TOP knotch!! You will not be disappointed. I promise to post pictures and videos when they arrive.
