Emma really enjoys toys that are in another birdie's cages I made this toy for Mabel but it seems to be a bigger hit with Emma. [video=youtube;NDkl-j99Cb4]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDkl-j99Cb4

Kathie is being obliged to change the name of her store for legal reasons. It used to be on domain name mybirdsafestore.. For those who are appreciative customers of hers and who would like to continue purchasing from her you can still log on to the new address and arrive at her original site. mysafebirdstore.com Right now her Dad is battling cancer so she is dealing with that right now.

Thank you to all of you for such kind words and well wishes. We are all doing well. Just a little hectic between school, work and life. I promise to drop in every so often and say HI! After all, you guys were here when I was simply a novice at being an african grey parront. On another note, I started my own blog 2 days ago. It is a work in progress and dedicated to Sachi, Emma and Mabel. It will include my experiences, thoughts and best practices for all things parrot related. Feel free to view anytime to see what we're up to. http://saemmabel.blogspot.com/ -
I would like to say farewell to all of you. I no longer have the kind of time that I used to have to be on here anymore so this is an official good bye. Thank you very much to Dan, Judygram, Luvparrots, Talon, Dave, Janboone etc for all the great advice and chuckles. Thank you for helping to keep this place running smoothly. Thank you for all of your experiences. Your presence has been greatly appreciated. Please forgive me for not remembering everyone else's name. Emma and me wish you all the nicest of thingsl! Regards, Adina

This video was taken this afternoon after her shower. She seems to really enjoy these Rainbow paper sticks. I purchased them from Things for Wings.

Thank you everyone for the kind words and well wishes! It's been quite a transition for me to adapt to having a macaw in my home but I'm glad to report that Mabel is doing very well and remains very gentle with me. Yesterday we went to the vet for her first exam and all is well. The blotches on her her feathers are from a diet with TOO much fat and her beak should take care of itself with a steady supply or great wood to chew on. She's been on a Harrisons and homemade birdie mashie diet, fresh veggies and quality nuts since day 1 of entering my home. Did not touch a morsel of her petshop food. I am very thankful for this because I had imagined weeks and months of slow tedious conversion. She should look awesome by her next molt. Yesterday she received a pedicure and we had her band removed which took over 1/2 hour. It was quite an ordeal because her band was the very very strong kind. The vet had to do it in small sections and give Mabel a break in between because the machine would heat up very very quickly. I guess the stronger and more destructive the parrot, the stronger the band. The vet shared a few stories of birds who had come to him with a broken leg because the band had gotten snagged or stuck in a toy etc... Good riddance to the past.

Here is some of the story that took place last week. -------------------------------------------------------------- Yes, there is a severe macaw at the petshop where I purchased Sachi and Emma. I met her more than 2 years ago when I used to visit Emma on a daily basis waiting for her to wean. This macaw is 4 months younger than Emma. At the time, she was reserved and *sold* to a lady who had also reserved an african grey during the same period of time. Unlike me, this lady did not visit her baby parrots regularly or even weekly. When she would finally visit the parrots would bite her on occasion. She change her mind about buying both of them. A few months later the african grey was sold but the girlie severe macaw has been there ever since. There had been so much turn over and change of staff at this store. In the midst of everything this parrot had receive less and less physical contact. I felt very dismayed and discouraged to see her. I was at the pet shop a few weeks ago to look at fish. Her behaviour, plumage, and eyes did not look at all like what I was am used to seeing with Sachi and Emma. Being quite upset at the time, I actually considered purchasing her even though I had never been drawn to mini macaws or even held one. After a few days of reflection, I decided that I couldn't because it seemed like this macaw's baggage was way too much for me to handle and even though I felt badly, I didn't feel passionate. Instead I spoke personally to the staff and manager at the pet store and urged them to make sure she received ALOT of daily out of cage time and special attention. I've also been calling them weekly to check on her and visiting her on a weekly basis to bring her lots of enrichment and will continue to do so for as long as she is there. She really loves the Mp stuff, Wings for Things toys and Rosie toys. She destroys everything with alot of relish. She even seems more appreciative of my toys than Emma and Sachi and much better than that very boring toy the pet store provided her. I am also very happy to report that the staff and manager genuinely care and have taken my advice and apparently she's been receiving about 3 hours out of cage time and several of them are handling her DAILY. I noticed a big difference in her demeanor last week and I even found out that the manager refused to sell her to this family that had really ROWDY children. Today I dropped by to bring her some more toys and one of the staff members *insisted* that I handle her. I wasn't sure I wanted to do that because I had never handled a macaw before, never mind one with *issues*. I decided to give it a try and to my delight, she was so so so so so gentle and so trusting with me. She let me swing her around. She lay on her back for me. She stepped up very nicely and she's such a cute talker. That huge beak didn't seem so scary as before. I stayed with her for 45 minutes, handling her and praising her. The only thing that concerned me is that when someone would ask her to step up when she was with me, she'd lunge and bite them. Conclusion.. Wasn't intending to add another to my 2 parrot flock but this happened last saturday.. ----------------------------------------------------------------- She's home now and in Sachi's first cage. Yes the one I had before I purchased her a custom made stainless steel cage. She seemed so attached to it so I kept it. Mabel will have to stay in it till Emma's EH cage comes. I think it's pretty decent for now. I didn't intend to bring her home.. but it was clear that she has *chosen* me and doesn't want anything to do with anyone she knows. I couldn't leave her in her current set up at the petshop and clients that walk in just drive me crazy with their ignorance. So I bought her for the same cost that the breeder sold her and the manager let me walk around the store and include what I wanted. So this is what I chose.. Booda Perches 3 stainless steel bowls and holder 1 Manu perch 1 bag each of her current food 1 Cat carrier Emma's Favourite swing And a big pack of Avi Cakes Couldn't think of anything else that I wanted so I left it at that. She was so happy that she wanted to cry and she told me that she was going to write all of that merchandise off as things used in the store. Here's Mabel's first video taken last saturday. another one after taking a shower, a 3rd one taken this week and one taken tonight. Lots of improvement has been made. Tomorrow she will go to her first vet appointment. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E3HMtLk0aaQ [video=youtube;QQr-fx4CV0Q]

Emma generally HATES bananas. All the times that I have sneaked bananas in her oatmeal, she has given me looks of disgust and dismay upon realization of having swallowed some banana Sachi LOVES bananas and would eat bananas every day and all day if she had a choice. This week our package of Just Bananas arrived. I had purchased them for Sachi because she LOVES bananas that much. Sachi has decided that they aren't worthy of consumption. Emma seems to enjoy the freeze dried texture and thinks they're GREAT. Probably doesn't realize she's eating bananas!! http://www.mybirdsafestore.com/JUST_TOMATOES-Just_Tomatoes_Bananas_2.5_ounce_tub.html

She wanted nothing to do with freeze dried vegetables until she saw me eating some and then all of a sudden it was worth checking out. I purchased this at My Bird Safe Store. http://www.mybirdsafestore.com/FOOD_TREATS-JUST_TOMATOES.html

I'll start. I have hanging gyms and floor stands in different rooms in my home. I also have perches hung on the outside of their cages to allow for nice places to land on. My instigator/ trouble maker is Emma, she loves to fly around and chase Sachi. I allow her to do this within reason, otherwise Sachi would be the *typical* pionus perch potato and would only fly when there was an immediate incentive ... i.e a treat or to follow me around. I usually permit this type of chasing around for about 45 minutes before serving their morning and evening meal. I think it's a good way to build an appetite. Instead of carrying my parrots around from room to room, I let them follow me. Usually they know exactly where I am going and end up there before me. When they do not wish to cooperate or obey a request, I simply walk away rather than argue with them. They always end up flying after me.. What do you guys do to encourage flight and MAXIMIZE their flying time? I'm open to new and creative ideas.

My review of the Austinair Allergy Air Purifier Machine..
lovethatgrey posted a topic in Health Room
It is here and I think I'm the first Canadian parrot owner on the forum that I know of to have one of these powerhouses. I must say that I was quite pleasantly surprised by its compact size. I was expecting so much bigger and it is quite a nice solid size. Not as slim as the Rabbitair, but definitely not unpleasant or invasive. I'm also very happy with the Sandstone color that I chose. In terms of noise, it is QUITE noisy on high but not any noisier than the Honeywell 17000 that I already have. On medium, it seems to be not too bad and on low it is very quiet. There is definitely an air Freshness factor with the Austinair and in a VERY small amount of time. This machine is very powerful and seems to have alot of *horsepower* With that said, I don't think one Standard sized austinair is enough to take care of my whole appartment. I placed the Rabbitair in my bedroom and I will leave the Honeywell off in the second bedroom for the afternoon to see what the results or consequences are. Thank you Modern Alchemy for making it easy and more affordable for ALL Canadians to own an Austinair air purifer, thank you for extending an additional 20$ discount to ALL members on the forum until Sept 30/ 2010 and thank you for FREE SHIPPING as well. Remember Product Code is *Emma* Austin Air Purifiers Canada ? Authorized Canadian Austin Air dealer ? Modern Alchemy Air Purifiers My opinion so far is that one gets ALOT of value for their money with the Austinair. I am so pleased that I am thinking of purchasing another one today. It is the perfect machine for my VERY dusty flock.
