Day 2

Sindbad, Karma to you. Keep up the efforts. Have you taken him to work before? It is quite possible that he would come back there, especially if the neighborhood is unfamiliar and your workplace was familiar. Maybe you could have someone wait at your dealership during the day especially from early in the morning, while you asked around? I am sending your way all the best wishes that I can and praying for Sindbad's safe and quick return. Sindbad wrote:

Day 2

Sindbad, anything that I can say at this point of time will be inadequate. Keep your hopes up. Do not give up. My wife and I are fervently praying for his safe return.
3. Hi Sindbad, do you have any updates to share with us? Anxiously awaiting good news from you.
4. Hope is never lost. There have been several posts in the forums of identical incidents. And many of the birds have been recovered. Search the forums. PM the people who had lost their birds and find out what they did. Some of the members here have gone to extreme lengths to recover their lost birds. Above all do not give up. All my thoughts are with you and Sindbad.
5. I asked a couple of questions before I began to search on the forum for answers. I found that most of the questions that came to my mind whether "dumb" or otherwise were already answered !!! In fact after the initial few questions, I have not posted any since I invariably find the answer if I look hard enough !!!

SWEATERS

Jamal, your first post said "I need sweaters for my birds". And somehow that turned into your friend's cockatoo !!
7. jamalbirdbiz wrote: Jamal, I think "getting bitten a lot" and "hasn't hindered r relationship" is an oxymoron. I do not agree that wearing gloves is the solution. I think trying to find out why your bird is biting you and changing your behaviour is the way to a healthy and loving relationship. Just a thought. Ultimately it is your bird and your relationship and being an African Grey expert, I am sure you know best.
8. Hi Ruby, you have excellent suggestions from luvparrots, jess and dan. Hang in there. It is a question of time and patience. I saw the photos you uploaded. If I lived in a cage that size, I would probably not come out too !!! Seriously, it is great that she now has so much space and I am sure she is feeling very comfortable. I am sure things will improve and you will have a great relationship with Ruby.
9. I went through 4 phases with Rishi 1. Shared junk food with him. 2. Stopped giving it to him and felt guilty about it. 3. Continued to eat in his presence but the guilt feelings were suppressed. 4. Now when I eat food that I know is not good for him, I do not eat it in his presence !!!
10. Nemo, this is wonderful news and I feel relieved. I have been following this thread, keeping my fingers crossed. Angel looks well. The little guy fought back uh?
11. Read JillyBeanz post on Broccoli throwing !!! Rishi has just finished his pellet throwing game 5 minutes back where he throws each pellet in the bowl and I pick them all up and put them back and then he meticulously throws them out again one by one. I realise that this is turning into a game and I need to stop putting them back !!! It may be better to have the nails filed and not trimmed. The second time I trimmed Rishi's nails, I cut one to the quick and it was a blood bath. I have read that if the cut is bad they can even bleed to death that way.
12. I remeber there was another thread on this topic about this same herbal stuff. While I would definitely not give anything that has not been declared completely safe to Rishi, I wonder if there could be some instances where a SAFE preparation that does mellow down a bird might be required? A flight? A long journey? I had to take Rishi on a 1000 km round trip to see an aian vet and I winder if something like this could have made his trip easier? I definitely agree that only an avian vet could recommend the usage and administer such a preparation.
13. Excellent Karina. Great work. The "beaking" and "biting" go with the territory. Rishi gives me real hard bites sometimes but till date he has never drawn blood. When I scratch Rishi and he is not in the mood, he will firmly but gently grab a finger with his beak and remove it !! You are doing great and I am sure you and Gabby will bond completely. The key is to take it slowly and never ever lose patience. The relationship with your bird is based on complete trust and mutual respect. Once that is established, the bond will be life-long.
14. Thanks for the update Flyguy. Excellent news. I am thrilled for both of you.
15. I think most of us here have watched this video and Andrew's final emotional statement. Heart-breaking for Andrew but a lesson for all of us. I luckily learnt the lesson when I first took Rishi to the beach and was chastised (rightly) by several members here for not having him on a harness. We MUST always remember that Greys are probably only 2 or 3 generations away from the jungle and are not lile "domesticated pets". I would not even assume to think they are "tame". As Dan says, don't ever assume that they are staying with you because they love you. Read about Shanlung's ordeal with Tinkerbell.

Post edited by: ramsabi, at: 2009/11/24 13:37
16. This happened to Rishi when he was sick a couple of months back. We thought he had lost his voice. He recovered in a week's time.
17. Ooooohhh, that is soo cute. Glad to see Yoshi getting on well.
18. Hey Jess, No pic. Can you try to attach the image again?
19. Thanks everyone. I bought this on my recenet trip to the US. I found it in a bird shop in Portland. I had to dismantle it (which was not an easy task !!) and then open my suitcase in Portland, Amsterdam and Muscat (I guess those tubes show up suspiciously on the scanner screen !!) but it was worth it.
20. Yes he is nervous and hesitant. It has been hanging there for some time, near his day-time perch while he got used to it. This is the first time that he was actually on it about an hour or so back. I need to get some more hanging thingies on it for him, after he is comfortable.
21. I am not ashamed to confess that tears spontaneously came to my eyes when I read about Bella's reaction. Guapo is very beautiful and has come home. Good luck to you.

zupreem???

Rishi switched from seeds to Harrison's High Potency overnight without any trouble about 2 months back!!! He now has a mixture of Harrison's High Potency and Zupreem Avian Entrees. My cockatiels are also trying Harrisons Fine mixed with seeds.
23. AT last we got Rishi to sit on his new atom for a few minutes. I am posting a better pic in the photo album.
24. Thanks particle77, I too read that. It could be anaesthetic too. Rishi had both, but after the red feathers came out. The avian vet in Dubai said he "suspects" PBFD. If it is PBFD, I am sure we will know quite soon. Also the vet asked us to give him Lactobacillus, that is why I was curious to know more about it.
