  1. Scar, please read the "Parrot's Bill of Rights" at the link below: http://www.greyforums.net/forums/the-grey-lounge/59053-a-parrots-bill-of-rights.html Bringing home an African Grey is a huge commitment and it is better to learn as much as possible about them before brining one home. There are many members here who would be able to give you excellent advice.
  2. I think it is a question of what they are capable of and how loud they actually are frequently. Rishi is capable of screeching like an express train but normally he doesn't use his top range. In 8 months I probably would have heard it twice or thrice. But believe me those 2-3 times he was LOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUD.
  3. I should have searched before asking: http://www.greyforums.net/forums//47809-lighting.html That was some serious research Dan and deserves to be written up as a sticky. Thanks so much.
  4. Since I am not able to get Rishi into the harness yet, I am considering buying a full spectrum light. Will it help to substitute for sunlight until I can take Rishi out safely?
  5. Thanks Dave. Rishi has a closed legband with the following ID - CSO (could be "zero"instead of the alphabet "Oh") 8K 2488. Does anybody recognize that?
  6. Can someone tell me what is an "open leg band" please?
  7. Hi Ranaz, thanks. That was the only time i did that. At that time, I thought it was safe since he was clipped until I got some advice from other experienced members. I bought the Aviator a few months back, but Rishi refused to tolerate it. I am still working on it. I hope he eventually comes to at least tolerate it so that I can take him out.
  8. It seems to be so normal that I was worried when Rishi was not doing it!!! But in the last month he has made up for all the lost time !!
  9. Rishi has a shower every day. Is this too frequent?
  10. Thanks Harmonicaman. He has had us since Feb 09 !!! He is about a year old now.
  11. Here is a link to a study done to see if birds recognize themselves in a mirror: http://www.efluxmedia.com/news_Birds_Recognize_Themselves_in_the_Mirror_23844.html<br><br>Post edited by: ramsabi, at: 2009/09/01 15:22
  12. My wife is the one who feeds Rishi, cleans his perches and cage, constantly talks to him (the three or four words that he speaks, he has learnt from her) and generally panders to every whim of his. But he simply refuses to allow her to touch him. He used to become aggressive if she even approached me but lately he has grouchily accepted her presence.
  13. Forgive these poor old eyes !!
  14. Rishi chose us at the bird shop and we brought him home right away in January 2009. From the beginning he has been so gentle and well-behaved. He has never had tantrums and seldom bites. It has been a long honeymoon so far !!!
  15. All very beautiful and nice but do these really belong in "the grey lounge"?
  16. Mine does this everyday on his playstand and also holding on to my fingers.
  17. Hi Everyone, Friend of mine sent this link and I thought the news room is the best place to post this. This cockatoo is 67 years old and still going strong !! http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/howaboutthat/4985813/Parrot-pictured-with-Winston-Churchill-still-drawing-a-crowd-after-67-years.html
  18. Sorry everyone. I just saw so many posts on the same topic and my questions is answered. Thanks
  19. I did not get Rishi expecting him to talk. Rather he chose me in the shop and that is why I brought him home. But I would of course be thrilled if he does talk. He is about 8 months old (based on his leg band). When do CAGs usually start talking?
  20. Thanks everyone. I thought a clipped bird couldn't fly. I have ordered the aviator harness and now after all your advice I will wait for it to arrive and get him used to it before taking him out.
  21. Thanks Judy and luvparrots. I knew there was a risk but decided to take it. I have ordered the aviator harness and am waiting for it to arrive. Will feel much safer when I have the harness on him.
  22. I tried to attach this photo to my previous post but could not do it. Trying again now. This is a photo of Rishi with my wife at the beach.
  23. Wednesday 11th March was a public holiday here at Muscat, Oman but I had to catch up on some work and went to office and decided to take Rishi with me !! He was absolutely no troulble at all and spent about six hours quite happy to just watch me and be near me. Same evening we became bolder and took him with us when we went out for dinner to a friend's house. He was at his best behaviour and very well-mannered and polite. He even pooped only once during the course of 3 hours !!! Today is Friday (Thursday and Friday are the weekend in Muscat) the 13th March and I decided to take him to the beach early in the morning. He was absolutely thrilled and so overjoyed !! I have uploaded some pictures in the photo album.<br><br>Post edited by: ramsabi, at: 2009/03/13 10:45
  24. Thanks everyone, Yes Judy. I am dividing my time equally. I have had my cockatiel ("Pakshi" - Sanskrit for Bird !!) for 4 years now and she is devoted to me and so is extremely jealous now but I am sure I can bring her around. How I got Rishi is interesting. I went to the pet shop looking for a male tiel for Pakshi. And there was this intelligent, beautiful bird sitting on a perch and making endearing noises. I went closer to the perch and he just clambered up my shoulder and started nipping my ear and crooning. The next thing I remember is sitting in my car with Rishi next to me instead of the cockatiel that I had gone to get !! I have posted a few pictures already in the Photo Album section. Thanks everyone again and looking forward to continuing to post in the other forum rooms.
  25. My name is Ram and I am an Indian who lives and works in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman in the Middle East. A wonderful CAG about eight months old has made me his (gender assumed. I have a tiel that is female, so we are hoping that Rishi is male.)friend and we call him Rishi (which is Sanskrit for a sage or seer). He has been with us for about 2 months now and we are already inseparable, much to the jealousy of my tiel.
