  1. No luck again. Is it the forum?
  2. Trying to post the pic again
  3. If you want to put your mind to rest, then you should ask an avian vet. From the look of the chair I would not say that you are over-reacting. I remember reading in another post in the Health Forum that a mixture of peanut butter and iron-free oatmeal is recommended by some vets as it helps in binding together any metal content and passing them out of his system. This is only something that I read on this forum and I am posting it only because while you watch for any signs of sickness, it may not be a bad idea to feed some of that mixture. I am sure it will not do any harm. The only person whose advice you should seek and act upon is your avian vet.

  6. I remember "she's" cousin has a grey named Blue that "she" used to take care of for her cousin. Blue if I recall correctly is more than 40 years old.<br><br>Post edited by: ramsabi, at: 2010/01/21 09:45
  7. JillyBeanz wrote: Isn't that why we have the mods? Karma could be used for appreciation. Anything derogatory, insulting or downright reckless can be handled by the mods with a warning and then a ban. When I thought the posts of a certain person (probably the same one you are referring to Jill) crossing all decent boundaries and providing reckless advice, I debated what to do. I decided to appeal to the mods rather than start giving thumbs downs. Thumbs downs are not going to deter a person bent upon trolling.
  8. I have just been reading this very interesting thread. A common thought that seems to come across is that nobody wants to give negative Karma. Why have the option at all? Why not have only the thumbs up? That way there will be no anonymous thumbs downs. And people who disagree with you will have to come out in the open and post their disagreement.
  9. I would suggest the following steps: 1. Make sure that it is Sindbad. How? Tell him you are willing to buy it, but would like to check out his health and condition. Somehow get close enough to be certain that it is Sindbad 2. If you are sure it is Sindbad, negotiate the price. I cannot see any other option. If you opt to take the police option, you have to ensure that the guy does not vanish with the bird. After all, you are not yet hundred percent sure that it is Sindbad.
  10. How sure are you that they are between 3 and 5 years old? I am asking because it is quite possible that they ARE a much older breeding pair, in which case you will need a lot of advice and help from Dave.
  11. When Rishi has certain kinds of food his breath has a strong odour. I wouldn't call it "bad breath" but the smell is different and strong. I have noticed this particularly when he has steamed corn kernels.
  12. The only way I can show my admiration is by giving you karma.
  13. We have not had a pest control done at home for more than 3 years now. The last time I did it, I had only Pakshi,my tiel. I kept him away from home for 15 days, but even after that he fell very sick and it was a miracle that he recovered. Now Rishi and Khushi my other tiel are also part of our flock, and I have no place were I can keep all of them for 15 or more days. We have a pestilential roach infestation that we have been tolerating for some time, but now it has become simply unbearable. Is there such a thing as a bird-safe pesticide?
  14. Very normal !!! Rishi wastes twice that amount !!! What size are those? They look like the large size. Try the medium.
  15. Good for you that you took in an older neglected Grey. That needs a lot of courage and also great commitment. How long have you had her? From your comments about her behavioural problems and the fact that you say she has been through a lot, you are going to have to be very patient and prepared to go through some difficult times. But if you consider it positively, the experience can also be very rewarding and enjoyable as you step from small successes to bigger ones at the end of which you will have established a wonderful relationship with your grey. I am almost certain she is plucking. The experts will certainly give you good, sensible advice. Don't worry, with the suggestions that you will surely receive, you will be well along the way to establishing a healthy relationship with your Grey. Remember that all it will take is time, patience and lots of love.<br><br>Post edited by: ramsabi, at: 2010/01/04 13:57
  16. My wife and I are members of the World Parrot Trust and I have the DVD "Where the Wild Greys Are". The DVD needs to be seen to understand how these birds are trapped. But it is also very balanced and speaks of the income that the locals get and how eco-tourism can contribute to stopping the trapping of the greys. Annual membership for 2 is 30 GBP and I consider it a worthwhile subscription to a great cause.
  17. Adelt, I see that you are in Amman. I live in Muscat, Oman and havethe same problem. No avian vets. Please do look around, since an avian vet is your best chance. If not, try one of the vets. Check if they have some experience with birds. I would not give my African Grey medication based on guesswork. Try Greywings suggestion. Oatmeal and peanut butter will not have any negative consequences. If nothing else is possible, please keep your bird hydrated and handfeed him with human babyfood gruel or if you can get it baby parrot food gruel. feed it slightly warm. Also keep your bird warm and in dim light. Ensure he is stress-free and away from noise and bustle. Hopefully he will recover. Keep us updated. My prayers for your Grey.
  18. Quarantine laws vary from country to country. I have read that the US quarantine facilities are very good and also that the people there are very caring and are experts. African Greys fall under Appendix II of CITES list of species. Appendix II species do not require an import permit from the destination country (there could be other laws in the destination country with reference to bird import, I am only describing CITES requirements) but need an export or re-export permit from the country of origin. You will need an export permit from Jamaican Authorities. I am giving below the link for the Jamaican contacts for CITES: http://www.cites.org/cms/index.php/lang-en/component/ncd/?country=JM Good Luck to you.
  19. Hi Sindbad, we have not heard from you for a while. I can only assume that Sindbad has not yet been found. Please keep your hopes up. Read this recent post. http://www.greyforums.net/forums/the-grey-lounge/176557-escapee-african-greys.html
  20. Sindbad, you are doing all the right things and more !! We are all with you. Don't give up. My wife and I are praying everyday specifically for Sindbad's safe return.
  21. Be sure that there will be many more. Did he draw blood? Rishi has bitten me softly and firmly and very hard. I know the differences between the bites now and most times I know what he is telling me. But he has never drawn blood.....yet !!! You handled that extremely well and I am sure you will establish a mutually respectful relationship.
  22. I get blamed by Rishi for anything that upsets and annoys him. My wife gets a little cuddly with me, I get bitten hard. My tiels sit on my shoulder, I get the treatment. When Rishi falls off his perch, I get the bites. I am not a bird psychologist but if I can go by behaviour, Rishi thinks it is my duty to prevent all events that annoy or anger him, and if any such event happens, even Acts of God, I get blamed for it !! What has happened with Ashford is extreme trauma and it is going to take time to heal. I am sure all it needs is time and incremental efforts on your part to regain the trust.
  23. Ashford is such a lovely name. I have hardly ever heard of animals seeking "revenge" though there could be a few cases and especially not parrots. Even if you were to, by some unimaginaeable coincidence, find the hawk that attacked Ashford and bring back the carcass as a proud trophy for Ashford to tear to bits, it is absolutely not going to help. Not a thousand carcasses of Red Tailed Hawks will help !!!! Before this incident, were you the one Ashford bonded to and trusted the most? It is possible that he could be feeling that you did not protect him. I would suggest that you read as much as you can about reducing stress in Greys. Also if there are things that you can do to show him that you are the same person whom Ashford can trust, that will also help. It will take time and patience but I am sure he will come round.
  24. Mods, I am sorry to say this but something needs to be done for Jamal. Posting is fine, calling himself 'Top African Grey Expert" is also fine. But the few posts here are really infuriating and Jamal is going to scare people off this forum if such replies continue. Jamal, you may be very well-meaning but please change your tone and language and please do not post completely misguiding solutions that you seem to dream up out of thin air. judygram wrote: <br><br>Post edited by: ramsabi, at: 2009/12/26 16:37
