  1. Jooles, believe me all of you ARE doing something very constructive. I think Jayd and I would probably have given up hope long back if it were not for the people in these forums. Speaking for myself I am only executing what I read in these forums and believe me that is the easy part !! And I would have given up action and hope were it not for all of you.
  2. I have had the cursor in the quick reply screen for the past 20 minutes and no words are coming. We are humbled. We had said in an earlier post that we now consider Rishi a member of the forum family and we meant it. We are only in loco parentis and every member who has been with us in spirit, thought and prayers has as strong a relationship and say in Rishi's well-being as we do. I would have made the trip to Dubai immediately but I have Pakshi's and Khushi's chicks, who are only 4-7 days old, to consider. Will keep the flock updated.
  3. Yes Talon, given Rishi's condition and also because his wings were extensively mutilated when he came to us, we thought it better to hang it close to the ground in case of a fall.

  5. Two recent sad stories on our forums about greys and dogs: http://www.greyforums.net/forums/the-grey-lounge/162746-my-baby-joey-is-gone.html#168024 http://www.greyforums.net/forums/health-room/181515-need-urgent-advice-bird-pinned-by-dog.html I would never want to take the risk.
  6. I have been posting photos of Pakshi's & Khushi's chicks here in the Nursery. If this is meant only for Grey chicks, please do let me know and I will post in the 'Other Birds' room.

  8. I had a difficult day at work, (Saturday is the beginning of the work week in Oman) and this is exactly what the doctor ordered. I burst out laughing !!!
  9. Update The first attempt did not work. The vet was not inclined to make the trip. The last time it was Judy's post that stirred me up to make the trip with Rishi to Dubai. This time Extreme has again fired me up. I plan on going to Dubai in the third week of February to meet the vet face to face and try to convince him. Also there are other avian vets in Dubai and I could approach them too. Let us see how it goes.
  10. We have not yet decided on names (too early?) but as a group we call them the "Three Muscateers", since they ARE in Muscat !! http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/zz228/ramsabi/The%20Chicks/ChicksDay62.jpg[/img] http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/zz228/ramsabi/The%20Chicks/Chicks4.jpg[/img]<br><br>Post edited by: ramsabi, at: 2010/02/05 20:00

  12. While the gurus will come along and give u the best advice possible (and that, in my opinion would be wise to follow), I will chip in with my responses: I know nothing about the weaning. Dave and others will shed more than enough light on this question. I was reading your other post 'To Clip or Not To Clip...Floor Walking'. From the time stamp on that post I think that u posted that specific question after this post. The consensus in that thread seemed to be in favour of not clipping. But it is your decision and you will have to live with it. Your routine seem pretty much like ours and in my opinion u are spending adequate time with your bird. You say he goes to sleep by 10 PM. What time does he wake up? Ideally about 9-12 hours of sleep time is recommended. Rishi goes to sleep by 8 PM and is up at 5.30 AM. As long as you are not getting SEVERELY bitten, I would not think that a towel would be necessary. Talking is very individualistic and varies widely from bird to bird. We have not made any specific "training" attempts to get Rishi to talk. My wife and I ensure that we talk to each other as much as possible in Rishi's presence and we include him in the conversation. Rishi spoke his first words when he was about 10 months old and now has a vocab of about 30 words. Post edited by: ramsabi, at: 2010/02/05 05:01<br><br>Post edited by: ramsabi, at: 2010/02/05 05:06
  13. Coincidentally only a few minutes back I was looking at pics of beau and blue in the "pet for your bird" post. Incredible progress !! I am sure only extreme care and dedication is behind this recovery.
  14. Luvparrots, did u notice that yo have 11,111 posts ?!!!!<br><br>Post edited by: ramsabi, at: 2010/02/04 01:28

She/He will have to go through all the security hassles and customs and visas etc. etc. and I doubt if they will be prepared to do that especially with a very busy schedule. I have visited the medical facility in Dubai and believe me they are up to their necks in work. I have sent him an email and waiting for the response.<br><br>Post edited by: ramsabi, at: 2010/02/04 01:13

    Broken back?

KdK, I admire your devotion and caring for Vree. Regardless of all the best medical attention his recovery depends on you and I can see that u will be there for him. My thoughts are with you and Vree for his speedy recovery.

  22. Why can I never find words that adequately express my feelings when I see such pictures? I have a lump in my throat and I find that I am holding my breath. Seeing and experiencing the new-born of any form of life must indeed be the most blissful experience.
  23. Thank you Deb. Fortunately, the recession has not hit our part of the world and financially we are able and willing to spend anything it takes to care for Rishi. Our problem is in getting medical care for Rishi. The only professional help is in Dubai which is another country. I took a risk the last time because it looked like we would lose Rishi. But after the trip I realised the huge risk that I took. If we had been discovered by the border authorities, we could have probablyy gotten off lightly but I AM SURE RISHI WOULD HAVE BEEN CONFISCATED. Even if he were in perfect health that would be devastating. Given his present condition, that would be completely unacceptable.
  24. Talon, we are overwhelmed and I really cannot say anything but Thanks Thanks Thanks. We have never treated Rishi as "belonging" to us nor us as belonging to him. He has been an equal member of the family with equal rights and privileges. Today I realised with dawning awe and gratitude that Rishi is not part of the small family of Pakshi, Khushi (the tiels), Ram (myself) and Sabi (my wife)but a member of a 5000 strong flock. We have decided that from today we are only custodians of Rishi on behalf of this wonderful family. Thank you all again.
  25. yes rbpittman u r right. But that's POPPA not MOMMA !! Momma is happily spending the daylight hours with us, getting treats, preening.....Poppa babysits during the day and comes out at 7 PM and sits in the dark !!
