kookie loves chilli pepper in the morni, it opens up his apetite, then he eats veggies like corn on the cob (he loves it especially if i warm it up for him in some hot water), green beans, snow peas, capsicum, zuccini, okra (he loves it epecially if its full of seeds), he also loves apples, and I give him a slice of orange daily for the vitamin C. Normally this in addition to a bowl of pellets and few seeds and nuts, keeps him busy till i coe back (8 hours). Dates are also great if u can find them and those dp not rot. I would stay away from the wet fruits and veggies cos those rot quickly. U can try some pasta, sweet potato (boiled), boiled egg ( give him only 1 egg per week, 2 halfs) Hope this is helpful, and dont worry, when he is hungry he will eat anything. {Nature-00020095}

what a beautiful baby, congratulations {Nature-00020095}

I would understand if the kids were around 3 or 4 and difficult to keep under control but at 8 years, I think both the grey and your son can have a great relationship {Nature-00020095}{Nature-00020095}

I think they like each other :woohoo: {Nature-00020095}{Nature-00020095}

Hopefully not, I hope he has washed his hands first. Anyway if his parrot got the cold due to cold weather (AC), then I dont think yours can catch it. In any case try to give your Cookie a slice of orange to eat 3 times a week, this would give them enough vitamin c. I give Kookie one every day, he loves it and he eats it all until its completely shaved Take Care {Nature-00020095}

Post edited by: ranaz, at: 2009/08/01 12:18

You can find 3 M wraps in the local pharmacy. It is also used to wrap wrists or ankles in case of sprains. Thats where I got mine from. It is exactly the same material used for horses.

I had a baby grey last year who keeps calling even after beeing fed. I found out that if i wrap her in a towel and put her on my lap she stopps calling and sleeps like a baby, so your baby needs a loving parent. Try that out, in a ddition to a small soft toy like a teady bear will deffinitly keep him company when u r not there. Also make sure he stays warm enough, perhaps a small towel next to him wll also giive him some warmth. Keep talking to him when u can, even your voice will give him some security, and he will get used to vocal communication. Best of luck and Karma to you {Nature-00020095}

Post edited by: ranaz, at: 2009/08/01 10:11

Hi Ian and welcome to our family. Congratulations for your new baby congo. Its a great life companion and having a baby is a great thing. Its demanding as having a human baby , and this forum will provide you a lot of support. Try to find a bird expert close to you, at least to help you in case of emergency. Best of luck and if possible post some pictures of your baby. Good luck in finding a name {Nature-00020095}

I think he is jealous. Emagine being married to a man who you believe is yours and only yours, and one day he brings home a younger woman...would you feel hungry??? I think this is his feeling now, somehow insecure. Just be patient and spend special time with him alone. Give him priority in everything,like feed him first and go to him first and dont fuss much about the new guy. It will take him time to get used to his presence, just show him that you love him more {Nature-00020095}

Congratulations.... Its the best time so enjoy it {Nature-00020095}

Hi As I have told jungledreamz in a previous post, this has worked many times in guessing the sex of a grey. Check the 2 corner bones on the underside close to where the red begins at the base of the tail. If the 2 bones are wide apart enough for a finger to go between, then its probably a girl (to allow a passage way for the egg), if not, and if they are tightly close to each other, it would probably be a boy. This has worked out so far in guessing the sex. Its a rule they use to check if Falcons are male or female (explained by the vet). I hope it works for you {Nature-00020095}

Babies are a beauty to have, they love cuddles and get attached easily and learn very quickly. On the other hand they are clingy, and want lots of attention. hey are more demanding and they need a dedicated time for feeding and caring. They are also more prone to diseases and bacteria. On the other hand, a one year old kid has developed a better imune system, and more character. he would still love to cuddle and play especially that his muscles are wel developed. I would say if you can dedicate enough time, get a baby, otherwise, a 1 year old is easier to handle and less demanding in terms of feeding habits, especially if the breeder is good and has taken good care in his upbringing Good Luck {Nature-00020095}

Hi Guys, Since I couldnt find any cement perch to keep Kookie's nails trimmed, I searched to find out if I can do one my self, so I found out this method, I would like to have your feedback. Is it safe to use regular building cement, or white cement or better to use clay powder?? Your feedback and comments are welcome {Nature-00020095} 1) Make a mold Take a 500ml fizzy drink bottle, and cut off the base and neck. Make a vertical cut in the bottle from top to bottom and roll the bottle into a narrower tube about 30-40mm in diameter. Secure the seam and cover the bottom of the bottle with duck tape. Seal sufficiently to prevent leakage. There may be some leakage of water, but the cement should not be able to escape. 2) Fill with cement Mix 4 parts sand with 1 part cement. Add water a little at a time and mix thoroughly until a smooth thick consistency is acheived. Fill the mold with the cement mix Also you can use some food coloring to give it a nice attractive color. 3) Make a perch Carefully push a 10mm x 100mm diameter hexagonal head bolt into the center of the cement leaving approximately 30-40mm projecting from the cement. Put two large diameter repair washers (must be wider than the cement mold) onto the bolt followed by a wingnut (to prevent the bolt sinking further into the cement). Allow the cement to dry for at least 24 hours at room temperature before attempting to remove the duck tape and open the mold. Carefully remove the perch from the mold and rough the surface of the perch. (I used a 6" nail to scratch at the surface). Allow the perch to completely dry for another 24-48 hours.

Kookie holds up one foot and relaxes on the other all the time, its one way of rsting one leg. Perhaps with his long nails, your parrot was not able to balance well on one leg and now that his nails are trimmed, he can do it, its a guess, and I really hope nothing is wrong Regards
