  1. Thanks for this loving and encouraging post. There is hope for Louie and me!
  2. Hi Dusty Grey! Looking forward to learning more about you and your grey!

  3. Yes. I just drop my shoulder or turn right or left depending where my parrot has landed on me. They know if I am not in the mood or am busy they need to "go away"! Because it is done in a non-aggressive way or without mean gestures or words they just go and land somewhere else until I am free.
  4. I am always on the lookout for Aloe Vera plants as either my parrots eat them too pieces or my son (a chef) takes them to take care of his burns and nicks.
  5. That's want Ana Grey loves to put out the "hide a tray'! She is tenacious.
  6. I do have one clumsy grey, Sterling Gris, he is now 1 1/2 years old. He was lightly clipped when I got him at 5 months and has always bullied through flying, clipped or not. He is clumsy but he is a big guy (505g) and very determined. He is still losing clipped feathers and is still clumsy. He falls off of his night perch some nights but keeps on trucking. Like I said he is determined. Ana Grey, tag, flies like a jet, quick and maneuvers beautiful. Louie, the zon, is steady and sure. Sterling Gris is slow like a helicopter but gets there in time.
  7. My three are all flighted and follow me around the house all the time. You do have to set boundaries. My office is off limits to them as Ana Grey loves to eat keyboards and will even pull one out from under the desk to get to the keys. Very expensive. I have a mesh screen on the doorway and my parrots can see me from their bird room no problem. I also have boings and perches throughout the house. One thing my parrots love is to sit on my shoulder when I am at the sink. Running water fascinates them and they fly to me and on me whenever I have water on. I just flick them off my shoulder/back/head. Because they are flighted they get the hint and learn to sit on their boings and wait for me to be "free". You do need to be persistent and keep flicking them off. I'm not one for teach tricks to my parrots. They do come when I call, Ana Grey and Louie can shake foot to hand and all give kisses if asked but this has always just been I ask they do. It might help if you make the "training" sessions shorter, fun and not intent. I have never given treats as an incentive just tickles.
  8. Greys and other animals are a little tough. My pug is 11 1/2 years old with bad eyes but has a great instinct for self-preservation and leaves the room if my parrots are out. My Ana Grey is a stalker and if she sees another animal dog, cat whatever she stalks it. Ana Grey is fearless. I recently kittysat my grandson's juvenile cat and had to keep the parrots in their bird room with the door closed or up high on their perches/boings or there was dive bombing, stalking and pouncing going on and on. It was five days of exhaustion for me. I was delighted that Issac, the kitty, finally went home. Finding the "perfect" solution between animals/grey is always interesting and you have to be diligent and on guard to survive it. Good Luck!
  9. How true, my Louie loves to sing!
  10. Looking forward to meeting Major and Mercedes. Can't wait to see some pictures!
  11. What a great swing. My gang has one and love it. Something my zon can't destroy. Priceless! Once again Biscotti has joyfully entertained us!
  12. I do towel my gang for clipping. I hold with the head covered and my daughter clips the tips off of the nails. Just the tips and everyone is happy. Keeping styptic powder handy, of course, is a must. But so far no problems. I find that if my parrots are covered, just as when they are in the dark, they are quiet and docile. What a trauma for Rikki I hope the tech got a good talking to from the vet about proper handling.
  13. My zon will make loud noises once in a while. I just assume it is a zon thing and let it go..... until it is annoying and then I just talk to Louie and direct him in a different direction. I usually sing to him and if I think his shrieking is loud and obnoxious you should hear my singing. Louie gets the idea and we both relax in peace and quiet.

    Too Hot?

My three love peppers and I am allergic to hot peppers. My throat swells and I start to choke horribly. I have to be very careful when I cut the peppers up so I don't forget to really wash my handsafterwards. The things we do for the ones we love!!
  15. When I first got my Tag I got a large cargo net. But it was so big and so heavy I have taken it down and put it in the garage. My gang loves boings and they are all over my home.
  16. Great looking toys you made. I wish I was as handy!
  17. What a great picture of Lola and her "nest"!
  18. What a cutie and very socialized. Kudos to a great breeder you are very lucky. Looking forward to watching your new sweetie pie grow. Welcome to the Grey family!
  19. Welcome Darwin. Looking forward to watching your grow and become part of the grey family!
  20. My three parrots are not meat eaters. I have tried to present them with drumsticks and such and what I always get is "no thank you"!
  21. What a sweetie. Looking forward to hearing more about her.
  22. Looking forward to see what you new your new companion. Can't wait to see some pictures!
  23. Thank you! Love to see the babies interacting with their parents!
  24. Oh they do understand when they are bad .... or when you are bad in their eyes. I always tell my gang "no" or "stop that" or "that's not nice" if they are going something I disapprove. They do understand the words and usually stop. But if I do something Ana Grey dislikes she will not hesitate to say "that's not nice". It's hard not to laugh or smile when they remind how smart they really are.
