  1. Welcome back to you and Zak and thanks for the update. Looking forward to hearing more about Zak!
  2. Love books about parrots. Conversations with Cosmos is one of my very favorites.
  3. Good for Nilah, a girl after my own heart!
  4. Happy, happy that you are back Dave!!!!
  5. Ah yes, zons are so different than greys. As you know, I don't get to cuddle Louie my rehomed zon but he will come out of his cage and back into his cage when I ask. Of course, this is on his terms. It has always been Ana Grey, then Sterling who get the treats and then Louie, the zon, gets his. So at bedtime, it isn't until both Ana Grey and Sterling are in their cages before Louie will follow my direction and go into his. It must be in the proper order or Louie will not cooperate. He will fly off until the others are in their cages and then he goes in without a problem. The way of the zon so logical if you just pay attention.
  6. Alfie looks like a very happy guy! Great pictures!
  7. Loved the video. Might have to have Sterling Gris listen to the Adam's Family song as he already makes the snapping sound and loves sound more than words.
  8. Thanks for sharing your Toucans/Aracaris with us. I wish I were a millionaire, I would adopt all the exotic birds people "think" they want and then abandon.
  9. My parrots are out all day because I am retired so they have full run of the house. There are times that I am gone all day and I just make sure that my zon has lots of wooden toys in his cage and a bell, got to have a bell for my zon. He is just happy to be free when I come home and let him out. Of my three parrots, my zon is the most easy going, he adjusts readily. To me zons are just happy characters and go with the flow.
  10. I'll not sure what your concern is Nancy. Kiki is acting like a happy zon to me. My Louie loves to fly over and pull my wire framed glass off of my face and perch across the room from me and just grin away as I beg for my glasses back. Sitting on my bookcase/disc case and pulling my discs and tossing them on the floor is great fun to him. Louie is a busy guy and destroys a wood toy in a flash. I'm just happy that he is not a woodwork chewer.
  11. Oh I love Australia. My oldest granddaughter is an Aussie and she is going back there to finish her medical schooling. Beautiful country with the kangaroos and cockatoos all around!
  12. Very cute! I have banned my parrots from my office has Ana Grey has chewed up my keys for the last time. What is it with the control keys and her?? LOL She can reach in and pull the keyboard holder/keyboard out from under the desk... little stinker!!
  13. Dan, I hope Dayo grows to get along with the leash. For sure, going slowly is the way to go. I have considered trying this leash on Sterling Gris, 505g, but I still think the weight of the latches would tire him out and make the adventure unpleasant. It is true that the leash is not to be used for flight, I mentioned the uplift Ana Grey had because she is so small and did have liftoff to the top of the couch. I think Sterling Gris would be able to really fly and then would crash after tiring from the weight. Perhaps a docile grey/parrot would tolerate this leash better but how would you keep the weight of the latches off of the legs?
  14. I believe it is a great idea in this case to give your grey a new name. New life, new name, great future.
  15. Well as promised, I am reporting on my adventure with the Safety Leash and my TAG, Ana Grey. As you all will remember, I felt that Ana Grey would be good "guinea pig" as she is fearless and trusts me. The size leash I purchased was medium. The first thing I did after opening the package was weigh the leash, 110 g. I then weighed Ana Grey, 298 g. I was leery of the weight difference but I promised to give this leash a try so I did. The latches were difficult for me to open and close as they are very strong. I called a neighbor lad over to give me a hand. Jordan has a parrot and my parrots trust him. Also Jordan is not afraid of a parrot bite (Jordan is 6'5"). Right off, Jordan didn't like the Safety Leash but I did promise to give it a good college try so.... I held Ana Grey as she did not like the looks of the contraption at all and would not stay put (she is fully flighted). Jordan put the latches on Ana Grey's legs. Once the gadget was on, I held Ana Grey and soothed her until I thought she would act calmly. When I let Ana Grey free, she immediately tried to get out of the safety leash by biting at it and then when that didn't work she flew off. Oh yes, as heavy as the leash was, she got lift and when she landed, she immediately toppled over, stumbled around and could not stand up. I immediately removed the "safety" leash and unshackled my sweet grey. There was too much weight for my TAG. I am sure that if Ana Grey tried to sit on my shoulder in this leash, the weight and pull of the leash would tire her easily and would drag her off my shoulder in no time. As you know I was really excited to try this leash out but as soon as I opened the package and felt its weight, I was truly disappointed. Ana Grey was shackled just like the prisoners in the old movies with leg chains. Ana Grey was terrified and acted accordingly. The leash weighed her down. I will not try this device again as it is not acceptable to me for my parrots. On a good note, Ana Grey has forgiven me for this trial and error. Perhaps Dan will have better results with Dayo then I did with Ana Grey. ###
  16. This is an older thread from Oct. 2008.
  17. I have a TAG, a CAG and a BF ZON. They have learned how to get along. Each personality is different. My TAG was here first and is the smallest but is the boss. She is always the first to try something new, food or toy. My CAG is the youngest and biggest and he has learned to jump right in when he wants something. My ZON is easy going and is content to be last. He waits his turn and believe it or not my TAG and CAG always leave him something for his patience.
  18. Great picture of your little food tester. It's always great fun when a grey joins the family and really fits in.
  19. Hi Miffy and Walter. Very nice picture. Can't wait to get to know the two of you.
  20. Perhaps of you have an avian vet in your area they could put you in contact with other parrot people. Or a local bird/parrot club.
  21. Glad you are back, Dan. Or wait, are you really, really Dan?? LOL!
  22. Pepper is a great looking TAG and I think you will be very pleased with her personality. Love those TAGs. My Ana Grey is also 4 and loves all the family when they come over.
