  1. Welcome to you and Sadiee. It sounds like Sadiee is lucky to have found you. Looking forward to you both being part of the Grey family!
  2. Emmy and Dutch are lucky to have become part of your family. I look forward to watching your journey with your new friends. I believe Emmy will have lots of surprises for you as you learn how she has survived all these years. What a brave girl Emmy is.
  3. How is Jellybean doing today. Looking forward for more info and pictures if you get a chance.
  4. How many faces can you find. I found 10.
  5. My three parrots are all flighted and spend most of the daylight hours with me. They do like to be close to me or at least where they can always see me. I have boings/ceiling perches placed throughout my home so that they can sit and play and watch while I am doing other things. If they come to me and get in the way, I just drop a shoulder to get him/them off or shoo them off and back onto a safer place.
  6. My zon, Louie, is not a walker. He has never been clipped and if for some reason he goes to the floor he is up like a snap. None of my parrots are walkers. They prefer the air and fly all the time. When Ana Grey was first brought home she was clipped and walked around. She walked like a duck back then. Waddle, waddle.
  7. Glad to hear that Congo and you are getting along. Just remember to go slow and relax as greys are very observant and are great at reading voice tones and body language. Can't wait to see your pictures! Congrats on the Art Degree!
  8. What a lovely introduction. I look forward to seeing pictures of your flock. We also have an Other Birds Room in which to post pictures and information about Sparkle. Welcome to the Grey Family!
  9. I have three parrots and three EZ Care cages. I love the front opening and their easy cleaning. Newspaper fixes lengthwise perfectly into these cages. The food/water bowls are ceramic and heavy so my parrots can't lift them out of the food/water holders. The perches are made of sturdy trimmed branches. My opinion, great cages.
  10. Kudos to you Bendinglass for taking in an older grey. I love the phrase, "Never say never" as I have an almost 5 year old BF Amazon that I have had for two years that I can't get to step up or really handle. No tickles or touching. But I will keep trying and maybe some day. I can get Louie to go in and out of his cage and he follows me around and takes treats from me. What more can I really ask of him as he has a wonderful personality, is bilingual, and makes me laugh everyday with his playing like mad with his wooden toys. Louie does sit on my shoulder or knee when he wants. All interaction is on Louie's terms but that's alright; he is very intelligent and does his best to do what I ask of him. Would I trade him for a "tame" amazon? Not on your life, he is a total joy to have around and very entertaining. What I am saying is that I like your attitude about your 40-year Grey and with patience and love perhaps she can be handled in a way that is acceptable to her and will make you smile with great accomplishment for the wonderful relationship you have developed between her and yourself. Please introduce yourself and your two greys in our Welcome Room so everyone can say Hi and get to know you!
  11. What a sad but wonderful story of reunion between people and their beloved pets. I wish Kiki a happy remainder of his life with the people who love him. If you think it appropriate Penny, please post a picture of Kiki and his family. Bless Kiki and those who love him. Echolocation, also called biosonar, is the biological sonar used by several kinds of animals. Echolocating animals emit calls out to the environment and listen to the echoes of those calls that return from various objects near them. They use these echoes to locate and identify the objects. Echolocation is used for navigation and for foraging (or hunting) in various environments. Some blind humans have learned to find their way using clicks produced by a device or the mouth (see Human echolocation).
  12. Dee, you are fooling no one. We all know you want an amazon. I might just start a betting pool to see who can guess when... ah ha! Ha ha!
  13. None of my parrots pin their eyes. Why would they, they rule the roost! So to say.
  14. Great pictures of Rocky! I love an amazon's personality! As you said, great clowns!
  15. I would leave your name and number with any breeders you contact. That is how I got my two greys. I waited 4 months for my TAG, the breeder's grey had just hatched. As for my CAG, the breeder had sold all of her babies but when one of her "deals" fall through, she remembered me and called. Doesn't hurt to try.
  16. Hello to you and Charlie and Rocky. Looking forward to hearing more about your sweet parrots.
  17. Thank you for sharing Rocky with us. He is quite handsome.
  18. Hi Rachel, welcome to the Grey family. We have a great Health Room with a moderator, Dave007, who has raised, owned and re-homed greys I think forever. Some of our members have also re-homed olders greys and so I believe there are threads in the different rooms to help you with all kinds of information. Any questions, just ask.
  19. Hi pjbmom, welcome to the forum. You are certainly in luck because we all love our greys. We also have an Amazon Room so feel free to check it out and tell us all about your Zon.
  20. Hi Aaron, your new companion is quite handsome. First, what background information were you able to obtain from the prior owner(s). Ex. what was his prior routine. I believe that will help you in knowing what to do now. So if you can get some background on routine, favorite foods, words he might know, time out of the cage, how he interacted with people, etc., you can see what his life was like prior to you. Dave has already given you some excellent information and I know because you care, you will be a great parront. Just relax and let your new friend lead the way. Welcome to the Grey family!
  21. First put each of your greys back in their own cage. You can't force a friendship/relationship between any two birds be them male/female or female/female or male/male. They should have their own cages. I have three parrots, all are flighted. They do not like each other but do tolerate each other. They have under supervision found their own "pecking order". Some birds/parrots do grow to like each other but that is their choice and up to each of them.
  22. I have a wonderful amazon who will not step up for me. He has never been clipped. But Louie will go into and come out of his cage was I ask. Strange but true. Perhaps someday he will step up for me. But until then, we have a very good relationship that works for us.
  23. Ah yes, learning to read your grey/parrot. It takes awhile but if you really pay attention you will learn to do it. My zon has smiling eyes sometimes. They are bright and beautiful and I love to see them. You need to combine the body language, tilt of head, and eyes together and then you can see the differences.
  24. Ivan's pendants are quite lovely.
