  1. My gang love fresh veggies/foods and good nuts and seed. But I also always keep ZuPreem Avian Entrees Garden Goodness in their cages.
  2. When I got my first grey, Ana Grey, I asked that she not be clipped. Well the breeder did it anyway. Ana Grey was her bird not mine. The breeder's fear (am sure) was that Ana Grey would fly away as I was a new parrot owner and didn't know any better. The breeder would not take any money until she had met me. I will say that Ana Grey was well loved and is fearless thanks to her loving breeder. Would I have signed a contract saying I would not clip my new companion? No, I could not honestly do that... because once she was mine it was then my choice. Would I never clip my birds? I can't guarantee that because things change... so I never say never. I do have my three parrots microchipped as I do fear greatly that they will venture outdoors without me. It is my biggest fear - That one or all will get out the door and fly around in the amazing excitement and when they land wonder why "mama" doesn't come get them now because - I'm tired and hungry and Mama always takes care of us. Where is she! Back to the topic. You can put anything you want in a contract..... you just have to get someone/other party to sign it.
  3. Great story. Reminds me of the crow that followed me into our motor home when we were traveling a few years back. It was all I could do to keep myself from keeping this beautiful wild animal. I think of him now and then and wonder where he is. Thanks for this great story.
  4. Love that Facebook Judy!
  5. Nice thread. Cricket looks great. My Louie will be 5 in December. I am looking forward to seeing if he will live up to being one of the "hot three" or will remain the sweetheart he is.
  6. Don't push too hard to get your grey to do what you want. You have to earn trust first and let him move at his own pace, not yours. Time and patience are the way to go.
  7. We would love to see a video of Romero in action if you can.
  8. Just too cute not to share!
  9. Oh yes let him eat all he wants of healthy foods and veggie chop and pellets are all good.
  10. How are you keeping your baby canary warm? Could those blisters be possibility from heat? Please take your baby to an avian vet to see what the problem is.
  11. Oh Romero so wants to be part of the family. I'm glad you let him test your hand for stability, whether it was by accident or not at least now you know he wanted to make sure you would not let him fall. Pictures of the family with him would be topping on the cake (hint, hint) big smile!
  12. Oh how can anyone be so very cruel. I'm glad you will let his wings grow out. I look forward to watching Romero really grow into a wonderful companion.
  13. Congrats on your new companion. What is is name? He looks great!
  14. I am so very sad for you. Don't blame yourself. It just happened. I hope you will return and that someday you will find it in your heart to welcome another grey. Know we will miss you; so until we meet again, take care.
  15. My greys, I allow on my shoulder as they not nibblers or biters. Now my zon is another story and so I watch him closely and shoo him off he decides to lock on to an ear.
  16. Ivan is very handsome. Glad things are developing with Ivan.
  17. Oh rapid heartbeat and strong adrenaline rush! So glad it was a false alarm. Web cam and new compatible alarms with ADT sound right to me. You'll figure it all out Penny, you are a very resilient person. Take a deep breath, have a tall glass of wine and just breathe.
  18. I have three parrots and enjoy them all for all their different traits. Go visit this new parrot and see if the two of you click.
  19. I am so sorry. But grateful that Charlie is finally home.
  20. I don't purposely fed live aloe vera plants to my parrots but I have had to purchase new aloe plants on and off because my parrots and my canary love to eat them. I have houseplants all through my home and my parrots and canary nibble on this or that one. They always go after the aloe vera plants so I have had to try and place the aloe plants in less accessible places. There have been no bad effects on my gang. I only post this because I think it is an interesting subject and this is what goes on in my home. Personal choices.
  21. I believe your grey is scared being out where he is not use to things so will not talk. Just keep trying with phrases and such that he knows. Be strong.
  22. Go to where your grey saw you and look there also. Perhaps he will be go there again because he knows you have been there. Don't give up. Take favorite foods that have smell, my parrots can always smell the foods they like when I am eating them and come flying. Also put an ad in the Lost and Found section of the local paper. You have already covered just about everything possible to help find your grey. Think positive. Prayers coming your way and don't give up.
  23. I have tried to hunt these down and the best I was able to do was this on FaceBook. I messaged Parrots First and was told that these were not for sale and only this pair was made. Perhaps with all the inquires they will mass produce them and we can all have a pair! Parrots First Regarding the "African Gray Slippers"... as far as we know - and trust me, we HAVE searched - there is NO WAY you can order the slippers. We suspect these are Home Made and "one of a kind" and have never been made 'for sale' anywhere. A Refuge for Saving the Wildlife shared Parrots First's photo.
  24. Kudos to you Braveheartdogs. I have rehomed an amazon, Louie, who is always nibbling on me. I never punish him for a behavior he learned elsewhere. We are working together to find a way to learn from each other. I love Louie too pieces and he loves me. He goes in and out of his cage as I ask and follows me all through my home. His nibbles are a way to touch me I believe and although I can't touch him, he listens to me and always has his laughing eyes on me. We have been together for 2 years and I look forward to the day he finds another way to express his need for touching.
