Healthy thoughts going out to Nilah.

Is it just me or is there a problem with the Forum?
Luvparrots replied to Mistyparrot's topic in Forum Feed-back
Having the same problem Steve. If I can see just a tip of the "remember me" box, I just mark it and hope for the best. Most of the time I stay logged it. -
Love the name Sassy. Hubby and Sassy both looked very happy.

You have told us how the male reacts to the female, but how does she react to him. Whatever you do, be cautious and vigilant. The new female may not react in the same way.

Perhaps Nibbler could sleep in your room with you and that might prevent the barking. Whatever you do, getting annoyed and verbalizing back at your CAG/Nibbler just re-enforces the behavior. It gets your attention. I have a pug that barks to go out or if someone knocks on the front door. Great alarm system for a single person. My CAG, Sterling Gris, always gets up at first light and goes through his vocabulary and sometimes adds in a bark or two just like my pug, Lily. Frankly, I enjoy the talking, it goes great with my canary who sings at first light also. Different strokes for different folks (sorry had to say it). Perhaps you could try to ignore the racket, if keeping Nibbler with you at night doesn't work. Earplugs are another thought at least until your CAG figures out that you will not react.

What it means is that Oscar reads you very well and is very in tune to your feelings. It goes to show that my belief is quite true that our greys so want to belong and watch us closely and can read us very nicely. So relax, be calm and self-assured and I'll bet Oscar will do the same. You are a very caring animal lover. I enjoy reading this thread.

Hi Shelbie and Irwin. Welcome to the Grey family! Judy gave great advice, so I will only say, you have the right attitude. Patience, gentleness and love are what Irwin needs now to build trust. Irwin should set the pace. Thank you for giving Irwin a new life.

Interacting with a Beautiful Child with Down Syndrome

What a gentle doggie. I would love to be the owner of that magnificent creature. Priceless. -
What have you named your grey? If this were my new grey, I would just make sure he is comfortable with food and water and lots of unhampered space. I would talk to him, tell him what I am doing and let he get use to seeing me and getting to know that I am his friend and will not harm him. Once he starts coming over to the side of the cage that you are on and watching you will curiosity and interest, I would then open the cage and let him come out on his own. But this will not happen while he is still afraid, growling and screaming. Do not force him to interact with you, he must want to do so on his own. He must first trust you and this can only happen in grey time. Which is on his time table not yours. I know it is hard to wait but so worth it in the terms of a long and trusting relationship. Patience.

Looking at the tail cannot tell you if your grey is male or female, but the dark markings on the tail do tell that he is not an oldster. A year old or so is a good estimate in age.

Hi Baz, I agree with others that the growls and scream are because your new grey is afraid and uncertain of his surroundings. I see that your grey's cage is in a very busy are. I am assuming that is wallpaper on two sides of the cage. Frankly, it is quite busy and probably confuses your grey and makes him feel unsure of what is happening. The wall hangings and the decoration on the top of the cage are most likely very upsetting to your new companion who already has to deal with a new home and new owner and is, therefore, very afraid of what is happening. If this were my new grey, I would put the cage in a more tranquil area. Your grey is quite handsome and I know you will be great and caring parront. What is your grey's name by the way?
-
Hi Baz, the only way to find out if your grey is male or female is by dna testing. That can be done at the following: http://www.avianbiotech.com/SexingCenter.htm. There is no way to tell just by sight. Please introduce yourself and your grey in the Welcome Room. We would love to learn more about the two of you.

I just saw this on Facebook and thought I would print it here for reference. Any thoughts about this as I never thought about this being a problem. Post by Marie Charon Crowley from someone who e-mailed her. "We recently had a disaster in which 3 of our birds that we have owned since they were babies all died within 1 hour of one another due to my cleaning our dishwasher with 1/2 cup of white vinegar. Our 4th bird was unaffected even though she was in the same room. I have found out(belatedly) that if vinegar is heated it can give off fumes which can kill a bird! Even my vet and my wife's sister, who has had birds for 30 years didn't know. We can never replace our blue and gold(Captain), but we now have a house full of empty cages and a huge hole in our hearts."

My 2 year old CAG, when he sees someone new, he puffs up real big and growls. It is funny because he is 505 grams and to me huge, but I know it is because he is trying to protect himself by looking "real big". Once he gets to know someone all is golden.

If you mean we understand each other, you're right Dave!

I use tap water. It bettre be good as I pay a fortune for it!
-
This, of course is a guess because I can't see your grey but I believe he needs some attention. Your grey is in a whole new atmosphere. What did his breeder tell you about him. Perhaps he is hungry. As a start, what do you feed him as food?
-
My parrots don't use contact calls. Sterling Gris says, "Hey open the door, let me out. I want to come out". Or "Come Here". Ana Grey just comes looking for me and so does Louie, the zon. Ana Grey and Louie just calming wait for me to come get them. When they are in their cages they can see me so they are okay with that.
-
As long as my greys stay an their normal weight I don't worry. My TAG is normally 305 grams (little lady) and my CAG is 505 grams (big lug). I would only worry if their weight changed dramatically.

I have never tried to shower with my parrots. Not something I would want to do. All my parrots love showers though and I soak them to the skin.

Thanks for joining us Piper! Hope to see more of you (hint, hint)!

I don't know if it helps but it did for my canary that got gassed with some Dust Off spray. Cappy was out and I thought he was dead but I placed him in the direct stream of air from a rotary fan and his lungs cleared out. It took awhile and Cappy took awhile to completely come out of it. But Cappy is fine now and singing and flying around as usual. I don't know why he is fine but I'm not going to complain about his miraculous recovery. I put a thread in the Canary Room about his ordeal. Now that Cappy is fine, I wish I had thought to record the whole horrid ordeal. If placing a gassed bird in front of a rotary fan helped once, it is certainly something I would try again.
