My neighbor has an older ekkie, Sully, that goes shopping and to pet fairs with them all the time. He is harnessed but loves his owner who is 6'5" and just stays on his shoulder. Sully can see everything for that position. I have taken my greys on short walks in the neighborhood but that's about it.

Excellent choice. I can't wait to see how you and your new zon interact. You will be amazed at the difference between greys and zons. Both are excellent companions in their own way. As for updating Kiwi's cage, I find that my Louie is very accepting of any new things. Bells are a must for a zon.

My parrots are out of their cages a lot. I do however keep them in for the whole day now and then just so they know that it can happen and should be able to adjust to being in if necessary.

All greys are different. My greys, a TAG and a CAG love to see outside and sit in front of the windows and patio door all the time. They know that if I get the travel cages out, they are going outside and are excited. I would continue to open the curtains, just let your grey know what you are doing and talk calmly about what is out there.

I have a male BF zon who will be 5 tomorrow. Yes my New Year's Baby. Louie has never been clipped and I have had him since he was 2 1/2 years old. Although Louie does not like to be handled, he was a man's bird before mine and the women in the family didn't treat him well. Anyhow, Louie loves to follow me from room to room. He is a chewer but I have lots of wood toys throughout my home and Louie so far, knock on wood, has not destroyed anything. A flighted parrot is a happy parrot, in my opinion, so please give it a try first. Your zon may be like my zon, a guy who just wants to please his flock. Louie is the favorite of everyone who meets him his personality if marvelous.

I totally soak my greys with a mister/spray bottle. They love to get wet to the skin and open their feathers for a total soaking. My shower is my space.

DiabloGrey, most, really all but perhaps a couple of members here are pet grey owners and have no interest in breeding our greys just enjoying their companionship. Most of us know very little about breeding greys. As I understand it, a pet grey and a breeder grey are two totally different creatures. I for one know nothing about breeding greys, not a thing. Perhaps there are other forums on the internet whose members primarily breed greys that can help you. If you have interest in companion greys this is the place.

My parrots and my canary are all flighted. I, however, do understand that there are times when a parrot/bird is safer to be clipped. I live alone so I can control the comings and goings in my home.

You and the owner have already agreed to a price. She has seen how much you like the Kiwi and is trying to get more. I would stand your ground and see what happens. Only you can decide of you will agree to a jacked up price. I personally would not.

If you are feeding and watering your grey outside the cage then I can see why it never goes back inside. Only feed/water your grey inside the cage will take care of that problem. Your grey will not starve himself he will return to his cage for food/water. I too have a CAG who is flighted and does not like to be in his cage. I have heavy drapes in the bird room so I close the drapes and turn off the room light so it is darker in the room and he is much easier to get to step up and back into his cage. Birds do not normally move about if it is night/dark. Our parrots have their routine at least mine do. Ana Grey first into her cage (she steps up easily always) Then Sterling Gris (the one who wants the lights off) and then my zon. Louie will not stop flying around unless the other two parrots are in their cages. He must be the last in or he is very stubborn. I guess he believes he is the night patrolman and he must see that all is safe before he retires. Go figure.

I find that my Amazon is much more active than my greys. My Louie is always busy and loves toys and lots of moving space. When I got each of my parrots I just put them in their new cage with no problem. Louie is also a rehome who lived an a small cage. He adjusted easily to his roomier cage. I find zons are much more easy going than greys. I think your idea of a newer larger cage with his usual toys is a great idea. Try to get as much information about your new zon as you can. His schedule, activities, routine, likes and dislikes, etc. I believe that helps you both adjust. Looking forward to seeing some pictures of your zon. What is his name.

Love the pictures. I'm glad you are getting the kids to stop poking at Radar because when Radar has had enough... biting is the next step and distrust in the kids. Greys have a long memory.

My zon loves to destroy all toys so straws are a definite favorite in this house!
