  9. Danmcq has the right attitude about cages. My first post was "in general." I am retired so during the day my fids' cage doors are always open except when circumstances are different. A repairman or installment people in working in the house. Neither of my birds are cage aggressive as I have always from day one gone into their cages to clean, change toys, whatever. They have never had the opportunity to think their cages weren't also my cages. And as Dan already stated in an emergency all bets are off and I will get my friends into their travel cages and out the door as fast as I can in anyway I can.
  10. Great shower video!!!! Thanks for finding and sharing it!!!!
  11. Oh Lily and Ted are just too beautiful. I have a re-homed male ekkie, Sully, who unfortunately is a terrible plucker. I have had him for a year and he is getting much better about leaving his feathers alone. I have no idea how old he is at least 9-10 years probably. He is very affectionate to me so I can no longer handle him with my hands. I hope to find him a wife so he can have someone to love although I don't want to breed them. So that is the problem. Anyhow, thank you for sharing the loving couple. I love to see how Sully hopefully will look one day as Ted is absolutely handsome.
  12. It would be nice to know a little more about you solorado. Where are you located and what are your credentials??
  13. Great pictures Mark. S certainly does very well with the talons he has and seems very confident. I usually just open Ana Grey's cage door and let her come out if she wants to. You might try that with your new friend so that his coming out of his cage is "his decision." Looking forward to hearing more about S and how his settling in goes. By the way, you daughter is certainly a little cutie!!!!
  14. Charlie is now home. Please write the updated thread: http://www.greyforums.net/forums/showthread.php?190076-Charlie-has-been-found!!!-thank-god..
  15. I use wire travel cages to take my fids outside to sun sometimes. Perhaps this will work for Charile if he doesn't like a harness. Judygram turned me on to this site!!!! Thanks once again Judy! They ship free, hooray!!! http://www.thecountryroost.com/catalog/default.php?cPath=28_29&osCsid=c75279644bb37546f20ffcbbcdb97cd9
  16. My grey is not a plucker but she does like to be with me. So I have ceiling hanging perches throughout my house and when I first got her I showed them all to her and sat her on them. If she contact called me, I would answer her and it usually made her happy and quiet. When I first got her she was clipped so she would walk after me and climb up the knotted ropes I had hanging from the hanging perches. Now that she can fly she knows to go to the perches so she can watch me doing whatever. Now I do have a re-homed male eclectus that is a plucker. He would call me if he couldn't see me and I would call back or sing to him. He was severally clipped and still can't fly. He does walk from his cage to smaller cages I have in the main rooms of the house as he too loves to be able to see me. It has taken awhile but he has stopped plucking basically. I am hopeful that he will grow his feathers back, at least as many as will regrow. I do spray him with Aloe Vera juice or Feather-In every other day and that seems to help with any irritation Sully may have with new feathers coming in. Dr. Flock, Dave007 the Moderator of the Health Room, is extremely knowledgeable so I know he will be able to help you. He has done wonders for my Sully.

  19. Hi Rick, very nice intro. To try and answer your questions, I get my fids toys from the internet. Ana Grey seems to love the wood ones. I also buy her practice golf balls, the ones with the holes in them, and she loves to toss them off the top of her cage or playstands, I think its watching me retrieve them that makes her happy!!!! As for bathes, I just pop her in the kitchen sink, she loves it. Good luck with getting your grey to talk when you want him to. My Ana Grey only talks to me or when she hears someone in the next room, once they come in the room she is quiet as a mouse. So when you figure out how to get Jack to talk in front of people, I'll all ears!!!! As for Jack not flying now, if he is not flapping his wings, he might just be a little cautious right now or he might have bruised his wing/wings. I would take him to the vet if he were my grey and I was concerned. I'm glad you decided to join us and can't wait to hear more about Jack. Welcome to the Grey family!!!!
