  1. That's an excellent idea Stefanie to get a job with a breeder so you can see what it's really about. Please let us know how it goes!!
  2. I always have pellets in my grey's cage 24/7. I feed fresh vegetables in the AM when I believe my fids are most hungry. I save the nuts and seeds more for treats during the day. This works for my birds and I believe they then get a balanced meal. I don't believe a bird will starve when there is good food around for them. So don't weakness and just give in to them if you want them to be healthy.
  3. Thank you for the new update Kathryn. It's good to hear that Vree is getting stronger and adjusting well. Looking forward to hearing what the vet has to say on the next visit. Be strong, you are a great and loving parront!
  4. Great pictures and dialogue!!!! You fids look smashing as always!!!!!
  5. Hi Stefanie, welcome to the forum. I commend you on researching first before becoming a parront. Personally, I would go with the species of parrot that I wanted and go from there. I would spend some time with them and see what a macaw or a grey or at etc. etc. is really like to own. Parrots are messy in the way they eat and frankly poop a lot. I don't think people realize how demanding they really are if a person wants to do it correctly. So ask all the questions you want and read, read, read.
  6. I have read this book in total and it was not my favorite read and I would not recommend it to anyone. This family does not have the time or love for a parrot or any bird. I doubt very much that the author will be using my review (one was asked of me so I commented) to promote her book.
  7. Very cute!!! So Shanti has his own favorite for the World Cup!!!!
  8. Excellent news about Little Sassy!!!!! Thanks for posting this wonderful outcome. Hooray!!!
  9. Great update Mark!!!! Spencer is certainly settling in nicely and becoming a part of your family! He sounds like a very well-adjusted guy and I truly believe in no time will be an amazing part of your family!!! Love the hanging perch by the way. Before Ana Grey could fly, she had rope ladders all over the house so I am a big believer in them. As you can see, I'm a fan of Timnehs and Spencer if a cutie!!!!!

Hi Sarah, what a lovely little sun conure you have. She is adorable!
  11. Hi JacksMum congratulations on your new little boy! I always enjoying reading the excitement that others show when they talk about bringing their babies home. I can't wait to hear more about your Captain Jack. As for perches, I have four kinds of perches in my grey's cage. A cement night perch, a very curvy "wacky wood" perch, the uneven perch that came with my EzCare cage and the smooth round perch on a standard cage swing that I purchased for Ana Grey's cage. As for food, I started off with the same types of foods that my grey's breeder was feeding to Ana Grey when she was weaned. There are oodles of informative threads here at the forum to answer a lot of your questions, so read, read, read. If you have additional questions just ask in the appropriate forum room and someone will come along and help you out. Welcome to the Grey family!!
  12. My Ana Grey is the best con artist I know!!!!
  13. Weren't the owners given the opportunity to get licenses? Was it a problem of cost perhaps? Can others obtain a license for ownership of these particular birds?
  14. bukee and Rexy are beautiful!
  15. Hi Eileen congratulations on your baby TAG. I can't wait to hear more about your little sweetheart. The pictures of Chico/Frida are adorable! Welcome to the Grey family!
  16. Too cute!!!! Hawkins certainly is becoming a large part of the family! Way to go Hawkins!!!!
  17. I live alone and am retired. My grey, Ana Grey, has been with me since she was 4 months old. She will be 2 years old in August. From the time I get up in the morning until 7:00pm at night (unless I am not home or have repair people, strangers over) she is out of her cage. I have hanging perches and boings throughout the house so she can come and go as she pleases. At these perches and boings are foraging toys and other things to keep her busy. She likes to hang with me and usually flies from room to room as I move around. When she was unflighted she would walk from room to room. I do like to know where she is but have basically parrot proofed my home much as you would for a small child. She will usually come to me when I call her (come here) and if she doesn't I go looking to see what she is up to. I think it has to do with your parrot's personality. Ana Grey is fearless and was well socialized by her breeder. So I would have to say no, at least my grey is not overly dependent on me.
  18. Sherry if I were in your place and was re-homing an older grey, I would post my questions in our Training Room and reading the threads already there. Dave007 has helped me tremendously with my older ekkie.
  19. My main concern would be the water issue. Only your mother-in-law knows if her grey will have enough water. How is the temperature in her grey's room? Does her grey "dirty" her water? Fresh water is very important for any living creature.
  20. Aoodi looks beautiful!!!! I'm so glad she is much, much better now!!!
