Louie is very smart, he knows if he is doing something wrong and he knows going into Sully's cage is wrong. I just point to his cage, which is beside Sully's and say, "get out of there" and he looks at me and gets out of Sully's cage and goes to his. I always give my fids fruits/veggies/seeds/nuts when I want them back in their own cages. They come back. I don't dole out nuts and seeds they are sparse and a treat/bribe for my fids. And yes, Louie is a big boy and very healthy and handsome. I am delighted with this wonderful BFA he is a doll.

How do they survive in the wilds then, if they can't really fly!!!

Louie has been a member of my flock for two weeks. He is a pretty quiet guy and so far has only said two words, "Hello" in many different ways, singsong, long sounding, normal. He also has learned "nite, nite" but so far that's it!! He loves to come out of his cage but usually just so he can go and steal food from Sully's or Ana Grey's cage. He still doesn't trust me, though I know he wants to, but he is still very cautious. He growls at me when I try to hand him a treat, but he does take the treat. He does not like nuts but he does love veggies. Ana Grey still dive bombs him, and he still holds his ground. I have been owned by Louie, BFA, for about 2 weeks now. He still doesn't love me and is always getting in trouble. He loves to come out of his cage and sneak into Sully or Ana Grey's cage, why I don't know! Louie is a clumsy flyer, he goes up, hovers and crash lands. Is this normal???

You will need to do some reading about African Greys as they usually choose one person to "own". They normally do not like or trust children. You can't leave them alone in a classroom for the weekend as they are intelligent and being "abandoned" could cause a grey to get bored and to pluck its feathers, not a good thing. Also greys don't talk non-stop, if they are uncomfortable or feel unsafe they clam up, well like a clam.

Ana Grey's cement perch is the highest perch in her cage, she has anyways used it as her sleeping perch.

Lisamarie, your question can't be answered by some of us because we did not see or get our greys until they were weaned. My grey's breeder lives 200 miles away from me and I met her when I picked her up at 4 months old.

My grey is micro-chipped as I will do anything possible to see that she is returned to me if lost. It is my understanding that vets will check for a micro-chip at no charge. All someone has to do is find her and take her to their local vet and ask. If I contact my micro-chipper, it will contact all vets and pet stores n my area and provide me with posters to help me locate my Ana Grey. Ana Grey does have certain phrases that she and I use to interact. Phrases I doubt anyone else's grey would know. She can also mimic my canary singing and my pug barking to a T.

Very interesting question. To get an answer perhaps you should post your question about your Ringneck in the Other Birds Room where other bird owners might see this question better.

I like the fact that you are having your grey in a room with you. I would also turn up a radio or tv to help block the noise.
