I am home everyday, all day and all evenings with my birds. They each have a time of day he/she likes to vocalize, I acknowledge their right to clear their pipes, so to say. Right now Louie, my zon, is squawking up a storm. I, of course, am typing. I talk to him and ask him what he thinks he is doing and adding in a few of my own sounds and words. Ana Grey joins in and Sully throws in a shriek or two. I ask them if they want and nut and Ana Grey, of course, answers, "want a nut" and I go in and open up their cages and hand out a pecan each. Now everyone is quiet. They got acknowledged and given a treat and all is quiet in the world of Moulton fids. Take the time to find out what Murphy wants or needs and perhaps you can bring peace to your household as well. They squawk or hop around for a reason, see if you can find out the problem and help Murphy fix it. Good luck.

I have three different types of parrots and after an initial getting use to each other have been able to get long. I won't say my zon and grey love each other but they can now live in the same room. My ekkie just ignores the other two parrots.

Louie the Zon---The battle is on!!!!!
Luvparrots replied to Luvparrots's topic in Cricket's Amazon Room
The birdroom is certainly a blessing but then I live alone so have the extra space for a place just for them to play in and live it. It sure keeps the rest of my home cleaner and my birds free to roam!!!!! -
How every cute, I believe they understand a lot. Ana Grey uses the proper pronouns like if she gets in trouble she will say, "I'll be good". I always say "You be good to her when she is bad. If she doesn't like something I have done she says, "You be good" If I am singing and she wants me to stop she says, "Stop that" with feeling. So they know the difference, I believe.

I got the larger one because I also use them for overnight staying and my birds can stretch out better. If I were to just use it for transport like going to the vet and transport here and there I think I would have preferred the smaller. But the larger fits great on my backseat.

Louie the Zon---The battle is on!!!!!
Luvparrots replied to Luvparrots's topic in Cricket's Amazon Room
Louie is a re-home and I was told he was 2 1/2 years old and that he was born in January. So I give Louie the hatchday of January 1st!!! It's as good as any and well, easy to remember!!!! So on January 1, 2011, Louie was officially 3 years old. Louie really doesn't like to fly much, certainly not like Ana Grey who maneuvers around all day long. Louie loves to be out of his cage and is out like a shot as soon as I open the door after breakfast, but he flies to one of the perches in the bird room and immediately attacks his toys. He is quite busy all day long and full of energy. He never leaves the bird room although the door is always open he just loves to attack his toys and Ana Grey's also. He still won't let me touch him but when I tell him it's nite, nite time he will go back into his cage. He is very smart and understands a lot. I try all the time to get him to step up but he just tries to bite me so because he's just happy flying and hanging around I'm happy. He and Ana Grey have finally come to an understanding and no longer try to kill each other. They were even touches beaks one day which made me very nervous as Louie's beak is twice the size of Ana Grey's. She seems to know when to back off and as I say she is much quicker and faster then my clumsy Louie. -
I miss seeing action in the Amazon Room so here is Louie during his daily battle with well, Himself!!!!

If you are going to be buying a bird, this one or another, it is a good idea to have a travel cage. I have a couple of these travel cages which I like for my grey and zon. That they are collapsible for easy storage to me is a plus. I also use it as a cage for when I visit my daughter and take my grey as it is roomy. http://www.thecountryroost.com/catalog/default.php?cPath=28_29&osCsid=537173a78a722630c52341e776cd0a31

Nice intro to Georgie.
-
Well Georgie is certainly trying!!!!! Enjoyed the videos, thanks!!!!!! Can't wait to see the video where he has them all in order. I know it's coming soon!!!
-
Pet is a cute little keet!!!! Thanks for sharing him with us!

Steve is certainly a fine looking Timneh. I think Timnehs are wonderful greys. I would go visit him and see how you both get along, that to me would be the deciding factor.
-
So pick a new word or phrase you would like Timmy to learn and try that on him. Say words that are associated with something Timmy likes and say it with enthusiasm.

Looking forward to hearing more about Dylan. Welcome to the Grey family!

Only an avian vet can tell whether Rocky has something wrong with his wings where he can never fly again. Feathers grow back. I have an older re-homed ekkie who had not flown for at least 7 1/2 years before I got him. When he was found in a carwash the pet store that got him clipped his wings and for the 7 1/2 years before he came to live with me his wings were continually clipped. It took 1 1/2 years before his feathers all grew back in as he was so severely clipped. After the flight feathers re-grew, I practiced with him to help him learn to fly again by launching him from my arm toward my sofa so he would have somewhere soft to land. He can now fly. He does not really try to fly as my home is small and he is a large eclectus but he glides beautifully from the hanging perches I have in my home to the floor and his wingspan is beautiful to watch.

None of my fids like messy food so I give Sully dehydrated bananas, mangoes, pineapple, etc. as I understand ekkies are fruit eaters so Sully gets lots of fruits as well as veggies and nuts and seeds. He is a great eater and has a very healthy appetite. I have given him fresh kiwi, as kiwi is from Australia I believe but it is not his favorite. I give my fids slices of apple every day as they really like fresh apples and Ana Grey is always asking for apple. Every third day I give my fids all fresh chopped veggies as in the wild no one cooks for them. They all enjoy those. My ekkie and my zon are my best eaters, Ana Grey prefers to eat with me and steal from my plate.

Congrats on the new baby. I am a grandmother so I babysit my new grandson occasionally. He was born 3 months premature and is as cute as a button. Anyway, when Dino is around Ana Grey seems to know that he is very special. Where she dive bombs the other birds if I am interacting with them she knows that Dino is off-limits when I am holding him or really at anytime. When Dino was littler (he is now 19 months old) Ana Grey would just sit on the back of my chair and watch him while I was feeding or rocking him. She seem to know that he was a baby and very delicate and much more needy then she. Now Ana Grey loves to be with me and on my shoulder (we are always fighting that one) but when Dino is around she is very cautious and watchful and very careful to give him room. She patiently waits until I am free to tend to her. I personally believe our greys understand what is going on and really do want to fit in and be a part of the family. Of course, I never forget that Ana Grey is an animal and I keep a very close eye on her when Dino is around as I do when my older pug is around the baby.

I have laminated floors in the bird room and cover it with newspaper on the heavy bird areas ie. under swinging perches and wall perches and around the immediate cage areas, mostly under doors. I love the floors are they are quick and easy to clean with vinegar water and paper towels during the day and quick evening mopping when I put the fids to bed.

Unwanted ear piercing scream. Help!
Luvparrots replied to mcclain32's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
MY Ana Grey does an ear-piercing scream at least once a day. It seems to be her way of clearing her pipes. Once she has done it, she is done for the day with the screaming that is. My ekkie screams to get the lights turned off or to see where I am. Once I turn of the lights of answer back to Sully is is happy and quiet. My zon also has a scream at least once a day, just to clear the air. I ignore the scream or answer back depending on what I think is called for. -
So zons are wood chewers its now documented. I wonder if I could open a toothpick factory, Louie loves to make small slivers out of his toys!!!
-
Can't wait to hear what your Ekkie is Bonnie. I'm not sure I can help you much about ekkies as Sully's age is unknown (at least 10 years) as he was a rescue and re-homed male ekkie. He is very set in his ways and is still a plucker that I work hard to correct. He only says Hi, can sound like a laser and can laugh. He is a very laid-back guy and frankly not much of a model of ekkie behavior, he does not play and likes to stay in a confined area (prefers his cage to being anywhere) although his cage is open all day long and I do take him out to sit on hanging perches. After a very short time he is back into a cage. It just is his way and what he prefers. He does like to be able to see me and screams bloody murder if he doesn't know where I am, but I assure you he is not a model example of an ekkie, at least I hope not.
-
I enjoy hearing about Cricket she sounds like so much fun. I am curious, my Louie is a BIG wood chewer, luckily he only chews wooden toys and believe me he has a lot of them and needs more!!! He loves to fly from perch to perch and knows what it means when I say, "nite, nite, get in your cage". I would love to see some more pictures of Cricket (hint, hint) if you get a chance.
-
Congratulations on your baby ekkie!!! Looks like he is going to be a real cutie!!!

Oh the homeless shelter or where the homeless people can get meals would be a good place to start looking. Praying Mino comes home safe and very soon.
